  5. Freshman Zach Simmons was progressing nicely during the year after not playing most of his high school years. Jordan Duffy missed most of the year due to injury. A.J. Lawson played with an injured right hand/wrist. Much of the CBI success was the result of Zach Simmons coming on, Jordan Duffy and Michael Miller getting in the lineup, and continued strong play by Ryan Woolridge and Roosevelt Smart. Aside from the first eight minutes of the loss to SF, the team played great for six straight games in the CBI. Heck yes, we can get excited about next year.

  6. Beto O’Rourke to make campaign stop at UNT today.....on campus! A Democratic nominee for the US Senate making a pointed and official “campaign speech” ON CAMPUS property. Oh, the outrage!!!!! Where are the professors starting petitions, calling for the event to be cancelled, calling it outrageous???? Where are all the Daily editorials opposing it???? Anyone else see a big reason why not? Ha! I have absolutely ZERO problem using UNT resources for this event....NONE. Just like I had ZERO problem with the son of the president making a non-campaign speech raising scholarship funds at an OFF-Campus facility. But, even though, different in scope and sponsorship and purpose, the “quietness” of folks on campus surrounding this obvious pointed political appearance is more than a little ironic. Oh...and really humorous as well. One wonders just how much in campaign dollars O’Rourke will raise for himself and his personal campaign related to this event vs how many scholarship dollars were raised by the off-campus event? Oh the outrage...UNT will never recover because someone made a speech!!!!! What has happened to our beloved University! Oh, the outrage and humiliation. We shouldn’t ever have considered playing a football game at Beto U either.....oh, wrong outrage. Just having some fun this morning....you folks carry on! 😂😂😂

  7. Easy conclusion is that yeah, they dried up. This is more of an example of being opportunistic, like with guys like Darden and Siggers in football, rather than a legit head-to-head recruiting win against A&M and SMU. Solid pickup any way you look at it.

  10. Ha! Ha! </facepalm> This is like one brother calling the other brother a son of a bitch. Why would you do that? Makes no sense. Perhaps UNT's engineering school doesn't have the remedial reading requirements -- which is how I was able to be degreed. I don't need to 'miss the part' - you obviously were trying to feign rage and pointing out ZOMG how dumb the liberals are by their outrage at having UNT's name as a sponsor to some controversial speaker.

  11. SMU - Give us a close L, I think we're severely underestimating Daniel Dykes. Incarnate Word - This one's gonna be a tough L. We'll have no motivation after losing to SMU. @ Arkansas - I think we play it close, but L. @ Liberty - North Texas decides to tank for the top draft pick and secures this with a giant L. LA Tech - Apogee's cell service depletes to such a degree that the headsets on the sideline don't even work. L. @ UTEP - Tank rolls on. L. Southern Miss - The grown ups finally have had enough of the younglings yelling "Motherf----ing Eagles" during the fight song. A fight breaks out by the west gate and rolls onto the field mid game. Team gets distracted, big time L. @ UAB - The team's equipment manager accidentally leaves the uniforms running on high cycle all night before the game. They have to play in essentially undergarments. L. Rice - Houston can't lose at anything right now, so this'll be a defaming L. @ ODU - ODU spends the whole week practicing punts. L. FAU - ya know i like our chances in this one, give us a fat L @ UTSA - AH. Now this one I can see us winning. Went 96 yards in a minute, we can totally pu - wait, we're still employing Troy Reffett? Never mind, give us an L.

  16. Could you explain this “tops in CUSA” thing? I have been to their facilities. What do you see that makes them the “clear” top in facilities and “academics”. I get the budget part. The other two seem to be a big stretch. Thanks.

  17. Having watched this guy for years I can say I would not vote for him for anything. He is a great talker but gets NOTHING done (except using his influence to get his family out of trouble). I keep trying to find out how much of his money came from out-of-state.

  21. There is a very large population in Texas who would say that a Democratic politician campaigning for a Senate seat would be a "liberal person who is ethically controversial".

  24. Looks like a quality pick-up with quality offers! Nice too that we now have a 6'5" guard... we are lacking in the height department.

  26. So, he is still in HS. I didn't read this correctly at first and was thinking he was a transfer and would have to sit out. Looks like a solid add. Love the type of player McCasland is after.

  27. A&M / SMU offers? Did these just dry up, and he decided to stay closer to home rather than go to Drake? Either way, I can't wait for this guy to sign. Looks like he'll be a nice replacement for Lawson.

  35. I know he's listed as the backup in the slow behind Lawrence, but I won't be surprised to see him spell Bussey some as well(essentially filling Smiley's role from last year). Or maybe even have true 4 wide sets with him/Lawrence/Darden in the slot.

  37. Progress is promising and I am not sure how anyone doesn't see that in McCasland first year. The record has obviously improved , but also the competitiveness of the team. I have not seen anyone giving McCasland credit for Benford's recruits. It was stated that his coaching developed these players more than Benford would have done. I don't see many that would disagree on that point. I was concerned about McCasland's finish at ASU and NT. So the tournament victory alleviated some of that concern. I was surprised in the ease that NT won the tournament. NT appears to be returning the key players, something that few conference opponents are doing. I have not seen anyone predict NT will be the class of the conference. However, I expect NT to be substantially improved.

  38. I would not be surprised to see them favored in the BC matchup. Wonder if losing both coordinators last year will affect the team though (I think it will, negatively). Gotta believe Little Weis is not on Little Briles' level. And Chris Kiffin was likely the best defensive coordinator in G5 last year... as evidenced by his promotion to the San Francisco 49ers.

  39. Some of the responses to @Cooley's remarks are serious logical fallacies. He's explaining his trepidation about being super-excited about a team that prior to the CBI was 13-17 VS Division 1 competition. It's his opinion. If you disagree, disagree. But don't start in with comparing the record to Benford's (heck, both '16-'17 & '17-'18 teams lost in the first round of the conference tourney) - Strawman. Benford's record should not be the benchmark for success. Or, providing the only alternative as "you'd rather have Benford..." - Black/White. I highly doubt he thinks that.

  40. So, would you rather still have Benford? Give credit where credit is due. Granted, GM inherited some players, but at least he could coach the players he had. Benford had no clue.
