  1. So, the numbers are in and we raised, with your help, $4312.00 this year for these great student-athletes. That brings our total to over $35,000 raised since we started the Basketball Classic 8 years ago. So many people have been instrumental in making this event a bit of a success. Our sponsors, our players, our donors, our silent auction item donors, the Cheer parents, Athletics, Student Affairs, our volunteers and our bidders and spectators, on and on! The Mean Green family is the greatest! Thanks to one and all...see you next year for year 9!

  5. He doesn't know sports. His opinion pieces (when there actually is one) are awful. He's not a horrible writer in the sense he can put words and sentences together but there's nothing insightful in his writing. He gets scooped by people on the board 90% of the time. When I lived in Bozeman the coverage of the FCS Bobcats was light years ahead. Night and day. The only thing I give credit to Vito is he's had to sit through and write about a lot of bad UNT sports and that would wear down anybody. You can only shine up a pig so much. But then again, it would've been nice to have him shine a light on how and why NT sports was so bad. Instead, he wanted to stay in Denton so he just kept writing his bland, beat writer pieces. I don't have anything against the guy, but he's a mediocre writer with no background in sports. He writes about NT like someone would write about gardening. It's time for a fresh voice.

  6. Way to go, Vito! I remember several years ago getting into a verbal sparing match with the editor of the DRC who, at the time, was calling for UNT to drop football altogether. That is when I cancelled my subscription, never again to re-up. Don't blame that on Brett as I believe that was before he arrived on the scene. That left a bad taste in my mouth for sure.

  8. I'm not sure it goes through the editor if it is a blog post. Otherwise, I totally agree.

  9. Congrats to the DJ Draper of football. Or is DJ the Michael Lawrence of basketball? Either way, congrats!

  13. I think the return men should be required to wear skirts.

  15. I feel inspired to follow the Bozeman Daily Chronicle for a year to see what I've been missing out on.

  16. I would be curious to know the injury history during the returns. Is it really that bad or is this just a move so they can say "look, we tried?" I personally find this ridiculous.

  17. also they are going to or still talking about putting a 40 second clock on the extra points and kick offs. How about get rid of the red man who slows everything down. The other parts of the game go fast it is the commercial breaks that kill it. KNUT plays a zillion PA during the game. There is got to be reward for being at the game but we suffer through the commercial breaks like the radio and tv people.

  18. Wow!! And on the hoops board, we have people that say they want him gone and call him stupid names that supposedly sound like Brett Vito. BV does a fine job covering us. Maybe if he had some competition for that job, it might make him even better, but for now, its a non-competitive gig. Getting acclaim for doing the work he did this year hopefully makes him feel better for having to sit thru Todd Dodge and Tony Benford teams, while listening to RV's lazy ass for all of those years.

  19. How about just make it two hand touch.

  20. Get rid of kickoffs altogether then. It's just a waste of time now that ends up with the ball at the 25 every time and lots more time for red shirt ref guy.

  21. He's a 4-star on 247 and espn. Verbal commits does a good job of listing offers, but it shows most 2019 kids as 2-stars, even when they are rated higher by most or all of the recruiting services https://247sports.com/Player/Michael-Christmas-46047303

  22. I am not advocating anyone losing their jobs, just answering the question. But my point is, a little "give a damn" goes a long way. I write for a living (indirectly) and can't make repeated careless errors. So I expect the same from those that do this professionally. Here is an example from yesterday: UNT's key rival Texas-San Antonio looked good on defense, but not that good on offe , for what it's worth.

  23. Saw on Twitter where he was put on scholarship. Congrats and well deserved.

  24. It's a little bit apples and oranges. Lawrence was a PWO which pretty much assured him a scholarship if he made the team (which he did in spades as statistically he was our top receiver). DJ was a walkon on academic scholarship who definitely contributed but was/is not a starter. He may (or may not) receive an athletic scholarship in spite his great work.

  27. "That much heartache"? Jim, you're the one who insisted the thread take this turn. Pretty much all the comments have said, "He's not that great," "We could do worse," "He's better than nothing." I don't see "that much heartache" caused by Brett Vito. Most of us have settled for general mediocrity with occasional glimpses of something better. That's what UNT fans are supposed to do, right?

  28. This is exactly what we need! I was hoping for a Jordan Williams style player and this kid seems to fill that void with a little more height and versatility in the post. We land him and we will be dangerous next year (more dangerous than we already will be).

  29. I always enjoy Rick Gosselin's articles. He wrote a piece about North Texas NFL draft history and Jeffery Wilson.

  30. Brett does a solid job. Fans of every school complain that the team board's scoop the local paper. This is because the writers actually have to check sources & facts before just posting rumors. They often know things in advance but are told to hold them so as to not burn bridges with their sources.

  32. The rulemaking exercised great restraint by not awarding points to the receiving team for a fair catch. Or did they just leave room for such amendments in the future???

  34. Donor Society Parking Passes (bring one for your dashboard if you have one folks), download the UNT Parking App and park on Highland...I think something like $2.25/hour...or Park at Fouts....about all I can think of. I worked hard to get the UNT cops to give us a break, but as yet...no luck. Seems odd that they would not yield for donors, sponsors, etc. I am keeping fingers crossed that I will hear before the day ends something more positive.

  35. He produces some good stories, but his daily output is just plain sloppy. Typos and other errors are far too common place and to me it demonstrates a sense of complacency. He also seems to delight in taunting the fan base, but that is just my perception. The lazy writing/editing is a fact.

  36. We only have one scholarship with at least a couple names being brought up as offered. We need to replace Temara and Victor really seems to fit the bill here.
