I always enjoy Rick Gosselin's articles. He wrote a piece about North Texas NFL draft history and Jeffery Wilson.4 points

Saw on Twitter where he was put on scholarship. Congrats and well deserved.3 points

Let it not be lost in this news that Holston graduated in 3 years. That makes me proud of him and the program. He deserves a Congratulations and a Thank You for you for a job well done at UNT!3 points

I am not advocating anyone losing their jobs, just answering the question. But my point is, a little "give a damn" goes a long way. I write for a living (indirectly) and can't make repeated careless errors. So I expect the same from those that do this professionally. Here is an example from yesterday: UNT's key rival Texas-San Antonio looked good on defense, but not that good on offe , for what it's worth.2 points

Hopefully Jasmyn Robinson (freshman signee) will step in and essentially be what Holmes was for us last year.2 points

Without a doubt. Also, all the people clamoring for better free-throw shooting, look at the percentages of the guys leaving compared to the percentages of the guys Mccasland actually signed. Benford recruited a lot of guys who couldn't shoot, and Mccasland is recruiting the opposite.2 points
-
What bleeding? These guys leaving are not guys Mccasland recruited. It's a very normal roster transition over a year period for a new coach. Also, we get to use those spots on other players, who will likely be big improvements over the four who are gone. All of the offensive players we have lost so far were bad offensive players. Lawson, you could argue, is not a bad offensive player but he certainly was this year. And he just isn't a shooter which really hurt this offense. When he was in our offense did not look good this year. When we stopped playing him in a primary role, our offense looked immensely better. Same with the other guys we lost. It's not a coincidence how much better this team did with Duffy and Miller taking the majority of Lawson, Temara, and Holston's minutes. Did you not watch the CBI? We looked just as good defensively as we did when Lawson and Holston were playing a lot. While looking leaps and bounds better on offense.2 points

Wow!! And on the hoops board, we have people that say they want him gone and call him stupid names that supposedly sound like Brett Vito. BV does a fine job covering us. Maybe if he had some competition for that job, it might make him even better, but for now, its a non-competitive gig. Getting acclaim for doing the work he did this year hopefully makes him feel better for having to sit thru Todd Dodge and Tony Benford teams, while listening to RV's lazy ass for all of those years.1 point

Get rid of kickoffs altogether then. It's just a waste of time now that ends up with the ball at the 25 every time and lots more time for red shirt ref guy.1 point

He's a 4-star on 247 and espn. Verbal commits does a good job of listing offers, but it shows most 2019 kids as 2-stars, even when they are rated higher by most or all of the recruiting services https://247sports.com/Player/Michael-Christmas-460473031 point

Congrats to the DJ Draper of football. Or is DJ the Michael Lawrence of basketball? Either way, congrats!1 point

Goes to the Dallas Wings #18 overall (2nd round) in tonight’s WNBA draft. When she was recruited here many felt she looked like Skyler Diggins. Well looks like she will back her up at point guard.1 point

We all knew those guys were leaving. I don't think anyone is really surprised here. If you are surprised, then you were not really paying attention this year.1 point

It's a tough break, but you only have one family and you can play basketball anywhere. I would certainly have done the same thing.1 point

The event is great fun....we just need to 'punch it up a little.' We'll talk about it soon. I think the players and the fans really enjoyed it.1 point

Based on his personal background, I was pretty excited about what the Wren Baker hire would mean for our basketball programs and this is yet another evidence of his impact to date. In general, the positive momentum of this athletic department continues to impress and Wren has only earned complete confidence that he's capable of carrying it forward Onward and upward...1 point

This is the best possible scenario for this coaching staff. You rid yourself of all the guys at the end of the bench and/or non impact players; creating 3-4 more scholarships. Obviously, Z Simmons needs help down low with fatigue and constant foul trouble. This allows 1-2 additional big men to compete better against bigger and better competition. Lawson, I feel, can easily be replaced with someone more suited for this offense and a higher IQ. I appreciate his service to the team but he was so lost out there. I would go get a legit big man (6-9 or 6-10) that can pound down-low. Another PF/C type and the best wing in the 6-6/6-7 range. I think we are ok at point but could use another true point guard, other than Woolridge. (I know about the early commit in 2019). There are at least 3 scholarship available next year (Duffy, Miller & Tope) This is just a golden opportunity to really take the next step, if addressed properly. With 3-4 available, possibly a grad transfer, juco transfer, HS kid(s) and maybe the best transfer that can sit out next year. I wish we could start keeping some DFW kids home but there is an impressive transfer list (Verbal Commits) looking for new homes. This goes to show that in basketball, you don't need 3-4 years to turn a program around. In about 12 months, this coaching staff will have had about 11 scholarship to fill.1 point

All by design & to script.. not worried at all, the scholly's available are coming at the best time for the program.. Expecting GMac to bring in a quality big as well as another scorer.. Many thanks to Khalil, Fredo & AJ, this is just modern day CBB business1 point

I guess my only concern is the height/ability to defend taller and longer guards and forwards. Holston and Lawson were actually a large part of our success in the last game against SF. Holston only played a couple minutes, but his defense in that time was huge! Miller and Tope are aggressive and fill this void, but if we go out and get 3 players under 6’5” we will run into a lot of miss match issues on defense.1 point

Woolridge is now the only Benford player remaining. Technically Simmons signed under Benford too. Either way, this will be almost entirely a Mccasland roster going forward1 point

If we lose to Liberty, in either of the next two seasons, similar to losing to the FCS bodybag game we buy each year, it will look horrendously bad, even if they are somehow better than they have been. Losing to them led Baylor to a 1 win season...but they have Big XII $$$ (for now) to lean on. We don't have the luxury of giving that school a win--its just a much bigger deal for us to lose to them than it was for Baylor. Want to see recruiting go back to the Danny Mac levels again? Lose to this bunch or to one of the FCS spares we are playing in the next couple of seasons and you'll get to see it...1 point

Football -- Won nine games and the division, played in the conference championship and a bowl game. Perfect 6-0 at home. Men's Basketball -- 20 wins and the CBI championship Women's Soccer -- Won the conference tournament and went to the NCAAs Women's Volleyball -- Won the conference championship and went to the NIT Women's basketball -- Improved to 17 wins and finished over .500 for the first time I can remember Softball -- Holding steady at 7-4 in conference, one game out of first place It's much easier being green these days.1 point

I thought the original topic was a post about how great of a last 12 months it's been around here lately? So, um, how did this turn into a bitch & moan fest? "RV sux!" -- "no he didn't" / look at the report -- we really did suck!" thread. Man, I really think people like to complain more than celebrate. Sorry for the lean times. :) Next up on the topic wheel: let's discuss Vic Trilli's tenure. We'll be right back after this message from Debbie Downer.1 point

Aye, that is the rub. You will notice that I qualified the phrase. I was thinking along the lines of working, being productive and self-reliant, and accepted by your peers...that sort of thing. Since I have been on this earth since 1945, my definition may differ from that of my children or someone else.1 point

I got the brochure and thought it was very well done and really spelled out how easy it is to make your payments over a period of time. Made it super easy. I increased my donation 50% because of the ease.1 point

He produces some good stories, but his daily output is just plain sloppy. Typos and other errors are far too common place and to me it demonstrates a sense of complacency. He also seems to delight in taunting the fan base, but that is just my perception. The lazy writing/editing is a fact.0 points

Anyone else think this has something to do with our new marketing agreement with Learfield? Let's be honest...how much good does this sort of thing do UNT? You get a green hat with the Texas Rangers logo. Outside of the folks who attended and a few "interested" fans, who recognizes that hat as a UNT hat? Marketing dollars must be spent where they will do the most good. Perhaps helping the Rangers fill seats and sell tickets is not exactly on UNT's radar these days. I don't have a clue...on the other hand...don't care if there is a UNT Rangers night or not. Never much did anything for me. Now, and FC Dallas UNT night??? Now you are talking. Ha!0 points

I think this AD is making a big mistake trying to milk his known donors instead of actively trying to get new donors (game attendees). If the club level family with four seats is already paying $4000+ a year to go to 5 games (+1 Liberty type school 'game') -- I really think they are barking up the wrong tree. I know of a couple families that dropped out this year since the cost outweighs any benefits. Any time they have extra tickets, they can't even give them away.-1 points

I was looking here: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/Reports/attend/2017.pdf ...and see a different number for our average, 600 off of the article's quote. This makes me think either Brett is off or the document is based off the 2017 calendar year and not 2017-2018 season? Maybe they don't factor in the CBI. I have no idea.-1 points
-
Correct! People that overlook Liberty because, for whatever reason, they do not like the University itself, are in for a rude awakening. The Liberty program, while newish, is a legit D1 program with nice facilities and donors willing to step up and make them even better. I fully expect UNT to win, but would not fall done in complete shock if UNT lost at Liberty's place this season. I am thinking of going to this game just to see what this Liberty U thing is all about. I have driven by the campus and saw the stadium...both campus and stadium both larger and more impressive than I had imagined.-1 points

Chad Morris got an sec job. Littrell will have options. People are looking at him now. liberty is the next BYU. That is going to. E a difficult game. Odu there will be tough. I think we split those. I think we beat uab in bham. I think Fine gets revenge in San Antonio. Utep should be a win but something about that desert and sun bowl. I think we play arky state tough and win. I think we hammer smu and incarnate word. La tech will be tough southern miss will be close. I think we lose a close one to fau. Big wins smu and ark. Upset losses odu and utep. back to boca another loss win the bowl game. GMG-1 points

So, help us decide where we go next. The Cheer/Spirit Scholarship BB game was a success again this year, but much more challenging to bring in players and spectators than in previous years. Both are super important to our success. So we are thinking that maybe it is time to look at a new format...help us decide... EDIT: Yes, I realize "decide" is misspelled in the poll section. Sorry about that...fat thumbs...but just pretend I spelled it correctly and help us out with your vote...please and thank you!-1 points

Yeah! Brett deserves a promotion ... somewhere far from Denton.-1 points

Who goes after SL? Outside of Tech and potentially LSU all the big jobs are filled within the Region (SEC and Big 12) within the past year or 2.. He has improved UNT but it still has glaring holes.. Defense has been terrible and no one has been held accountable for it. Recruiting has improved but it a still no where near what any P5 would accept. Also, SL is 0-3 in bowl games/championship games with 2 blows out and 0-5 if you include the P5 losses that we seemed in it for most of the game but the final results show different.-2 points
