  1. Hello everyone, here's my lengthy breakdown of how North Texas won the CBI Finals and the adjustments that went into it. Plenty of clips in the story which I hope load for you. Let me know what you think, enjoy. -MB https://www.ntdaily.com/analysis-how-mccasland-and-his-staff-coached-their-way-to-a-cbi-championship/

  2. "Perhaps the most impressive thing is he has assembled a leadership team that works collectively and cohesively." So important for UNT's continued success.

  7. It’s old now, requires constant maintenance and is a huge resource drain. They’ve been discussing moving the Regal Eagle out for several years now. Maybe they’re in the market for something newer?

  10. Writer made predictions for 2020 in January of 2010. Some are amusing (Todd Dodge will get hired by Baylor) but a number of others hit well like Georgia Southern to Sun Belt and Charlotte and La.Tech to CUSA and Big East leaving the elites and taking Memphis. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/334329-25-predictions-about-fbs-college-football-circa-2020

  12. What the hell does that have to do with you saying Colorado State is going to the PAC-12 because of their upgrades of their locker room and meeting rooms? somebody has been inhaling the laughing gas at the office for their own benefit, so it seems...

  13. To answer Fly's question... They do know about it, my understanding is that it was donated to the school but it ended up costing a good amount for repairs etc. so they were looking into options to sell or retire it with out offending the donor's family. That family has given generously to the university and endowed a chair etc.

  14. Facilities like this aren't built to aspire to win the Gildan Bowl as a plateau. They'll be getting into the Pac-16 when it turns to 16, book it.

  15. My top events that I've been in attendance for would have to be: 1. Tearing down the goal posts, marching them to Fry and proceeding to get excessively drunk and make plans to go to New Orleans. 2. The Stand 3. The Drive 4. Bowl win vs UNLV (first football game ever attended with my now wife) 5. CBI games 2 & 3 6. Final game at Fouts. Honorable Mention: Although not a favorite memory, sitting front row on the 50 at the HOD Bowl game against Army was a cool experience. And had a play or 2 gone a different way, it would have definitely been near the top of the list.

  16. Football -- Won nine games and the division, played in the conference championship and a bowl game. Perfect 6-0 at home. Men's Basketball -- 20 wins and the CBI championship Women's Soccer -- Won the conference tournament and went to the NCAAs Women's Volleyball -- Won the conference championship and went to the NIT Women's basketball -- Improved to 17 wins and finished over .500 for the first time I can remember Softball -- Holding steady at 7-4 in conference, one game out of first place It's much easier being green these days.

  17. If roughly half of the FAU team quits, transfers, or shows up on an episode of Cops over the summer as most of America expects, then I am pretty confident that the gap will be sufficiently closed to where the game will be much closer than last season.

  19. They used to use that to take the coaches to caravan stops. I remember seeing it multiple times. Not sure if that was just before Baker or if they used it last year. The problem with things like this is you never use them as much as you think you might and they always end up costing more to maintain than they seem like they should.

  21. Would really like to get CSU on our schedule maybe a 1-1. How much better is the MWC to C-USA? Based on these facilities it looks a whole lot better. It is tough being a tweener.

  22. 350k. Seems steep to me considering the thing is more than 10 years old.

  23. There is no way the PAC-12 will take them. They want TV markets, which they already have the one CSU delivers with Colorado being in their league. CSU is like UH or Cincinnati—solid programs that could be Power teams but they can’t find a league to take them, so they are just stuck in the G5, albeit the Upper end of that level.

  27. The WFAA dude annoyed the hell out of me but outside of that I didn't care or expect much coverage outside of the local paper. As everyone has touched on, the CBI is not prestigious but NT's participation in it was perfect, useful, and definitely fun. It's great to see basketball in the Pit be fun again. We should make sure that it never reaches another five year run like we saw in the Benford era.

  29. Thank you @UNTLifer I did a repost of this same topic in the football board. I will be sure to check out Sharkarosa, seems like a great place for the family!

  30. The Downtown Square and surrounding area have great locally owned places to eat, get dessert, have a drink, etc... There is a good historical museum in the Courthouse on the Square and just a really cool building to walk around in. My 14 year old and I did that this past year and surprisingly enjoyed it much more than anticipated. https://www.sharkarosa.com/ The above is a fun place and was shown a couple of years ago on an episode of "Dirty Jobs." We took our kids and it was a lot of fun. You can usually find specials on the internet but it is well worth the admission. It is about 20 minutes north of town, just south of Pilot Point. FYI, you would probably get better responses if you moved that question to the football board.

  34. Pro Day at UNT was a wonderful experience! Going in, I wasn't sure how much I would be able to see...but it ended up being a great day. I was part of the crowd that was counting and cheering as my son did his bench press and then moved on to the broad jump and then measured his vertical jump. It was beautiful outside when they moved to the stadium completed runs and drills there. I am a proud UNT parent and we are thankful for the opportunity.

  35. Hi Mean Green fans, I rewatched the bowl game a few days ago and decided to visit your board. Sorry, but I have to comment on this post. Troy's past questionable recruiting practices are over. It is not even possible to oversign these days (NCAA and SBC would not allow it), and we only sign a few JUCOs every year now (and most of these JUCOs have three years of eligibility left). We paid a high price for our past recruiting tactics. We were low on scholarship numbers for a while and had to endure 4-5 subpar seasons because of this... we totally lost momentum. Our head coach Neal Brown is doing it the right way (and when he took over the job from CLB, he stressed that he would recruit more in-state kids and sign mostly hs recruits instead of JUCOs). Actually we are signing more and more kids who also get offered by the service academies or schools like GA Tech, etc (this is getting better every year). We have a bunch of AL, FL, GA kids on our roster who had offers from schools like Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Purdue, GA Tech, Cal, UCLA, Texas, Illinois etc. One of our QBs (who might start next year) had offers from Syracuse and Air Force among others and our newest 2019 commit (RB) chose Troy over Cornell (and USM)... We also signed a TE this year who had offers from Harvard, Yale, Navy (and Kentucky, Miss St)...there are more examples like this. There are some reasons for this: We have a pretty good coaching staff and pay them 2M a year. Further, major campus developments (new arena, new dining hall, new student recreation center, new dorms, etc), and later this year, we will open a brand new state-of-the-art fb facility (70,000sqft), and we have secured some nice home games vs Boise St, NC State, Miss St, etc - and of course, growing attendance numbers and winning also helps...many in-state kids who don't get offered by UA or AU still want to stay in the area - we benefit from this. ...sorry for the long post but FAU Con started this and this topic is too important (btw back in the days when FAU was in the SBC, Troy and FAU recruited the same type of (hs) players...)

  37. I had no idea it was this bad. I worked for a non profit for years and fundraising was a big part of my job. It is disheartening to hear that it is like this. Without a good database to START with, its hard to get traction. I will say, it is all about relationships. It can be done, but you need some names to start with. I do like that WB wants people to know the stats. Its an eye opener. I am interested to see if those numbers improve after a year of good fundraising.

  40. When that game is against San Diego State instead of a 6:00pm tip @ UNC-Charlotte, I'm all for it. Now, let's take a closer look at what a 16-team (including NT/Rice/UTSA/UTEP) MWC schedule would look like for football: 4 home games, 4 away games in conference play would mean 1 (JUST ONE) game against a West Coast opponent. That game would be at home every other year. So there is a possibility that we would have ZERO games starting after 7:00pm. Taking a look at CSU's (a team we would likely align with) home schedule, several of their home games began in the early afternoons Mountain Time. Same with Wyoming. Same with Air Force & New Mexico. Those would likely be the 4 teams that would align with this Texas block of schools. Of course, this is all fan fiction. The worry about game times beginning at 9:00PM may only affect 1 or 2 games per year. MAYBE. It's also entirely possible we'd never see a game later than 7:00pm. Worrying about a 9:00pm start time is just not worth hanging around in C-USA, which is constantly talked-about being merged with SBC. If the opportunity ever arises, WB had better take it.
