  1. The Mean Green is in the House! Bronze medal winner in the javelin at the '72 Munich Olympics, North Texas alumni, Bill Schmidt (on the right) and his brother Bob (on the left), at The Finals NCAA Wrestling Championships in Cleveland. Great shirt!

  5. It's no NIT and we do have to pay to host but I still think it's a cool experience to host a playoff game at our own gym. Hopefully the students will take notice and provide a bigger showing.

  6. To be fair, the voicemail said it wasn't an issue but something to be taken care of later. From the video it appears the initial break occurs where the construction crew was working.

  7. That's a failure on both sides, but more on the one who observed the crack. If you haven't spoken to a living, breathing, human being, you haven't reported the emergency.

  9. I like the stupid commercial that the NCAA and CBS is running in an attempt to promote the NCAA's dedication to "The Student Athlete". Yeah, if any of you actually cared about the The Student Athlete over your bank roll...you wouldn't have assigned two teams from West Virginia to play on the West Coast at 8 pm on a Sunday night. 10. If the MWC goes to 16 teams and we are somehow included, there will most certainly be 2 divisions, which means we would be playing very few far west teams per year and half of the time those games would be in Apogee. Someone must have been paying attention to TCU while in the MWC because they used their success to land an invite from the Big 12. The MWC isn’t that great but it is viewed as a step up from CUSA so you probably have to take the offer if invited.

  11. The article I read made it sound like the zags might be using this more as a negotiation with their current conference. They want a bigger piece of the money they are bringing every year from the NCAA tournament since it is currently split between the conference schools and the zags have been the main school for years bringing in the money

  12. Almost. You mean like how Notre Dame plays all sports except football in the ACC? The NCAA requires that if a conference wants to be treated as an FBS conference (ie. vote on FBS issues) that there must be 8 FBS schools playing all sports in the conference. The NCAA doesn't care where the 9th or 10th football member plays its other sports as long as there are 8 all sports football members. After Utah left MWC, BYU was going to play everything but football in the WAC but MWC raided WAC and left it on the verge of collapse. As a practical matter most conferences want all members to be all in unless they need a school in a sport to round out the numbers. If Texas wanted to go independent in football and wanted CUSA as its home for all other sports it wouldn't take long for CUSA to bless that move but if FAU announced they were joining AAC football only it wouldn't take long to kick them out of CUSA in other sports.

  13. An I nteresting bit of news in two separate articles in the link above. Two separate women confront two separate men doing harm to others. One used words.....and got her ass kicked. The other used a gun and not only protected herself and who knows who else....but got his ass put in jail trying to run away.

  21. The MWC will get back into Texas, but it won’t be anytime soon. They could get UTEP anytime, but they’d much rather have TCU, Baylor, and any other Big XII leftovers. I suspect that both of those schools will go to the MWC when the Big XII GOR expires in 2025. But I suspect UTEP and another Texas school could join them, like UTSA, Rice, or us.

  24. UTEP is terrible academically and awful at sports. Not a loss if they go. The real question is why would MWC want them?

  25. Baker and Littrell both deserve extensions and raises. However, I really think that the buyout clauses for coaches really need to be separated from the presence of the AD and president at the school. I absolutely hated those clauses in the last contracts, where the buyouts for Littrell and MacCasland gets slashed in half if Baker or Smatresk gets hired away (or fired/ not renewed). If someone comes to grab Baker, this means that Littrell/MacCasland could also be gone for cheap, and the school is left holding the bag and not just having to replace the AD, but having to start over completely. And it sure feels like there is a conflict of interest when the AD negotiates such a clause, as it gives him negotiation leverage when negotiating his own contract.

  26. I didn't really see his post as taking a shot at "environmentalists" generally. But we've seen it before where, to please or placate certain groups, the tried and true has too quickly been set aside for the unproven, and negative consequences followed. As an aside, maybe these various threads on this same event could be merged into the initial thread?

  27. Albuquerque is closest MWC program. Our fans don't even travel to La. Tech,UTSA, or Rice, let alone to New Mexico. The difference in time zones is also an issue. Who watched TCU when the won the WAC and MWC? In fact, were many of their games televised? With the TV golden goose dead for G5 programs such as North Texas, reducing expenses should be a priority. In my opinion real realignment will happen in about 2025 when NCAA national contracts expire. I would expect the Big 12 to dissolve , and those left behind to cherry pick the AAC. We then would replace SMU, and find ourselves in same position we are now, as the new AAC would be made up primarily of leftovers and CUSA/SBC members. At present the CUSA has two original members,UAB and So. Miss. The other dozen are former WAC and SBC schools plus a start up. I just don't see much difference between the conference we left and the one we joined, except we are strung out from El Paso to Virginia.

  31. What a disaster. Especially sad when the purpose is to keep people out of harm’s way by avoiding a dangerous road crossing. I thought of our bridge over 35 and the structures are very different. That FIU has a lot of concrete particularly with the cover. There is no center support. The middle span of ours is probably comparable in length but ours has a heavy metal cage on the bottom and the cover is light metal not concrete. I wonder how much real world testing they put on an experimental structure before they deployed it with peoples’ lives at stake.

  32. Around the clock wind will tear up just about anything, and that corridor is considered a high wind assessment area per the research done during the time the wind generators were going up. The NT Battle Flag needs to fly only on game days imo. Rick

  33. 13-0 baby! (I can't find the article anymore. Did that poor bastard retract it?) John Whisler was the author. Searching through all his articles in the MySA, I see everything he wrote last year -- except 13-0. Edit: Found it! Never forget!

  39. You kind of like the conference whose bowl tie ins meant our best option was the New Orleans Bowl? The same conference that has a terrible TV deal, forcing us to watch our games via shitty streaming, for the most part?

  41. Just heard on the local news that someone(worker, contractor??) reportedly called in to (installer, builder?) to report a crack in the structure, left message on voice message recording. Hard to believe. We will see if this is true.

  43. What was the MWC's best bowl? The New Orleans wasn't CUSA's, just where our team chose to play. The MWC dumped their television contract. How many MWC games did you watch this year? The MWC isn't the answer.
