  1. Jalie Mitchell needs to be next on the new contract list.

  5. Honestly, considering she is entering the last year of her contract, she should be first in line.

  6. Baker and Littrell both deserve extensions and raises. However, I really think that the buyout clauses for coaches really need to be separated from the presence of the AD and president at the school. I absolutely hated those clauses in the last contracts, where the buyouts for Littrell and MacCasland gets slashed in half if Baker or Smatresk gets hired away (or fired/ not renewed). If someone comes to grab Baker, this means that Littrell/MacCasland could also be gone for cheap, and the school is left holding the bag and not just having to replace the AD, but having to start over completely. And it sure feels like there is a conflict of interest when the AD negotiates such a clause, as it gives him negotiation leverage when negotiating his own contract.

  9. UTEP's input would be irrelevant, they would not get a vote. Even with NMSU joining I don't think UTEP would be affected. NMSU basketball is a plus.

  12. As with any failure in manufacturing or construction the builder attempts to mitigate liability. This is done in thousands of different ways but the easiest is to "confidentially" tell a press guy about this new technology and intimating that it could have something to do with it. The press guy runs with it and you have 100 paid experts ready to tell you how it could have caused a failure. Let the investigation play out. This was a 950 ton structure that had just been put in place. It was not fully tied in nor were the support cables set as the were being tightened when the collapse occurred. I will bet is was not caused by faulty concrete. Self-cleaning concrete was invented in 1997 has been used without fail since 2003. The nanotechnology of adding titanium dioxide (TiO2) actually strengthens concrete. Making it photocatalytic requires manipulating the material to create extremely fine nanotechnology-sized particles with a different atomic structure. Self-cleaning concrete is an effective alternative to provide cleaner environment which contribute to sustainability and towards a green environment.

  13. Thanks! I started the site in January. At the Bowl in New Orleans I was gauging interest (and canvassing online among CUSA followers) and there seemed to be enough people like me, who follow the rest of the league because it all touches NT. There is not a site that does it well — Underdog Dynasty, which I briefly contributed to, is too sprawling and unfocused for my liking. Also Forgotten 5 was started by the guy who founded Underdog Dynasty so it’s just the same stuff without the Vox Media machine — and so decided to do it myself. There will be a podcast. I’m looking for more contributors who will be paid — I just need to finalize the support model. On MGN, there is a subscription model that has worked but can be improved. I’d like to bring that over to CR.

  16. Baker up o 500k, Littrell up to 1.2 million. Mitchell slight raise (50k) and 2 year extension with pay raises for assistants. That's what i'd do if anyone asked me. Also, no one asked me.

  19. What financial benefits do NMSU and UTEP bring to the the table...not much. I would think that if the MWC are going to add schools that they would want them somewhat financially sound (the athletic departments) and extend their recruiting territory.

  20. Albuquerque is closest MWC program. Our fans don't even travel to La. Tech,UTSA, or Rice, let alone to New Mexico. The difference in time zones is also an issue. Who watched TCU when the won the WAC and MWC? In fact, were many of their games televised? With the TV golden goose dead for G5 programs such as North Texas, reducing expenses should be a priority. In my opinion real realignment will happen in about 2025 when NCAA national contracts expire. I would expect the Big 12 to dissolve , and those left behind to cherry pick the AAC. We then would replace SMU, and find ourselves in same position we are now, as the new AAC would be made up primarily of leftovers and CUSA/SBC members. At present the CUSA has two original members,UAB and So. Miss. The other dozen are former WAC and SBC schools plus a start up. I just don't see much difference between the conference we left and the one we joined, except we are strung out from El Paso to Virginia.

  21. UTEP has always wanted to be in the MWC. When the old WAC broke up UTEP was left without a conference. UTEP has a lot of history with most of the MWC teams and they are in the same time zone. Right now I dont what UTEP would bring to the MWC. UTEP football and basketball program are really struggling. We have been through what UTEP is gong through many times and I think it has cost us better conference opportunities. I dont think the the P-5 will be adding anyone because they dont want to share the pie. Maybe the next conference shake ups will make room for some strong regional conferences. I think the P5 conferences should break into their own league and not be part of the NCAA because they tend to walk all over the NCAA. Let the P6 develop their own conference that make sense regionally because the TV money is being sucked out of the P5 teams. Then make the P5 teams pay a fortune if they want to play a P6 school. Maybe this would make the P5 schools get back to their rivalry games like A&M vs the Long Whores, Nebraska vs Oklahoma...etc.

  22. From what I have read the MWC wants to beef up its basketball programs, and they are not interested in increasing the number of football teams. This would work great for BYU as they could move all sports except football to MWC, play football as an independent ,and keep their television contract much like UT except on a smaller scale. It also would be a life saver for NMSU, but the Lobos would probably nix that idea.

  23. Well, this is about the most film I could find on him. My thoughts: Anytime a player under 6' tall is ranked this high and has this many offers, it usually means a few specifications are all or mostly all met. 1. Shoots the ball well 2. Has good point guard skills 3. Is a good on-ball defender with quick hands 4. Is quick/hard to stay in front of. • Shoots the ball well - He absolutely has the form to be a plus shooter at the D1 level. Very good looking shot. Averaged 13.5 points/game as a freshman according to Maxpreps and appears to have since taken more of a pass-first PG role. • Point guard skills - Such a short video and harder to gather this than it is to analyze shooting form in a small sample. However, according to Maxpreps he averaged 5.5 assists per game this season. He also shows the ability and quickness to create his own shot and create shots for others. Seems pretty solid here. • On-ball defense - Again, short clip to analyze something that needs a bigger sample size, but according to Maxpreps as well he has averaged over 2 steals a game in his freshman through junior seasons. At his height you would prefer not to rely on him being able to guard more than one position, but he does appear to have the makings of a good defensive point guard. • Quickness - I think he checks this box as well. Not just quick, but explosive. He dunks the ball with ease, which for a guy under 6' gives you a pretty good idea on how dynamic an athlete he is. He kind of reminds me of a Dennis Smith Jr lite, plus about 4 inches shorter. Definitely has the skill set to take guys off the dribble. This is obviously a very impressive get for Mccasland. It kind of reminds me of the shift from Mccarney's offensive recruiting to Littrell's. Under Mccarney we saw him go after prototypical-sized linemen, receivers, and QBs but they often had little to no other offers, because they weren't actually good players. Under Littrell he has opted for the recruits who don't have prototypical size but are good football players. And we obviously see how that has worked. Mccasland looks to be doing something similar. Benford often recruited players of prototypical size who were either not very skilled, never made it in, or could not stay out of trouble. Mccasland is opting for the route of getting as much skill and the best players on the court as possible, even if he has to sacrifice size. I think that's a great idea at the CUSA level and I'm excited to see what else he and the staff have in store for the 2019 recruiting class.

  26. These rumors of UTEP leaving CUSA seem to pop up every year but never seem to come for UTEP themselves. Maybe they would rather go west but I won't worry about it until someone from UTEP's leadership actually says something to that effect or it actually happens.

  27. Changed Nevada/UT winner on my bracket to Nevada at the last second. Whew. Another mid-major advancing. NCAA can't be too happy... Meanwhile, that's fifteen losses for Texas, a No. 10 seed.

  28. It was cool to see his son on the bench for me. He came though our school and was always a stand up young man. It was funny seeing Johnny in the stands (the few times UNT had a Thursday bye) when John played.

  29. I have a hard time seeing New Mexico or UTEP being enthusiastic about NMSU. NMSU fills a vital role in plugging the non-conference schedule. Let them in and now you lose a locked in non-conference date across multiple sports. I'd love it for NMSU but I don't see it making good financial sense for UNM.

  37. ESPN3 is awful for streaming quality but the Facebook feed with the social media annoying chick is horrible too. Unfortunately the streaming feed and NT audio feed never match up. As far as audience, the last Facebook game I watched had a people viewing counter at the bottom and the number was at 1300. On any platform there isn't a big audience for CUSA games so I say forget getting the most money and just go for quality. Whether that's streaming or over the air.

  38. ESPN3 sucks. If you aren't a blue blood ESPN sucks. If you aren't on the East coast ESPN sucks. Give me Bein, free facebook streaming, and CBS. If our championship games are between ranked teams CBS will pick it up.

  39. As someone that only pays for internet and streams everything, I'm all for stadium. ESPN3 blows chunks. The stream qualities are always very inconsistent, which is infuriating. I like the idea behind stadium and that way we're not sharing the same emaciated (relative to the traffic they get) servers as all the other schools on ESPN. I liked BeINs coverage though. The only thing wrong with stadium and BeIN is the commentators. I don't understand why they don't use local media for the sportscasting.

  40. Playing really well! Miller is showing why he was highly touted out of JUCO. I find it odd they would not give Temara the trip and let the senior play a few more minutes, but I get the point of trying to give the core guys next season more time together.

  45. I'd have to disagree with the first part of your statement. Maybe not totally disagree but I do think that's where we could be headed. Part of my reasoning for this is that Commissioner Aresco and Wren Baker are friends. If you recall, the commissioner sent Wren a congratulatory message when he was approved as the athletic director at North Texas. I believe that if we can stay the course on financial, facility and attendance improvements that we might very well be either an addition or a replacement should a current member drop out. Not that I wouldn't take the MWC over what we've got in a heartbeat but I believe that for the MWC to accept us that we'd have to be included with UTEP or Rice. Actually, Rice would be good but UTEP would make for a distant travel partner. Air Force would be the closest existing member and we have little history with them (or any other member for that matter). At least, with Wren Baker, I believe that conference improvement is highly likely and something needs to be started now.
