  2. What will ODU do with all those C-USA championship trophies and banners they have accumulated? How bout dominate the league then consider moving on. I love how Marshall, USM and now ODU reason that their failures at not competing in C-USA has to do with the league and not them. The only valid argument would be travel cost. But it they want to string a bunch of FCS teams together go ahead, i think most FCS are content at where they are at considering the changing collusive environment of FBS. Silly columnist, but it worked we all clicked on the article.

  3. Homer article if there ever was one. I've been to many UNT games since Apogee opened, and they do not significantly inflate attendance numbers if at all. Why don't ODU worry about building their football team back up and get a real stadium. 25 high school stadiums in the state of Texas puts their thing they call a stadium to shame.

  8. True, and very good post. ODU can't compete within Conference USA for championships but they think they are to good for this conference. I get it isn't the same conference, none are though. Part of the reason college football is losing its luster is it's getting watered down. There is a reason good athletic departments are spending big money on stadiums and facilities. They see that's part of what it takes to be D1. Then there's the way we were, or schools in high school type stadiums, borrowing stadiums, or ancient dumps and that's just football. Not everyone deserves to be D1. At times we sure didn't. Maybe ODU should go FCS in football? I'm also sure DC has far better venues than The Star in Frisco, Texas for them to lose in. The Star is a dump and should be torn down. Shame on Conference USA for choosing it as a destination for a tournament.

  10. i don't think the numbers are inflated at the MB games. I sit behind the seats on the floor and there is always a lot of empty chairs there but I assume they are taken by season ticket holders. Really if we are going to inflate our numbers we are not doing a very good job of it.

  11. Huh? I don't think we've ever been accused of inflating those numbers. That's an art reserved for SMU ticket counters.

  14. Which allowed us to pick up Cal and Houston. When will the Liberty whining end?

  15. I am 100% convinced otherwise. UNT fans, students, alum would've came out for that game. 4 hour drive against a name opponent. I did not go to NOLA vs Troy. I had no intention of it. I 100% would've went to Shreveport and I know many others are in this same boat with me.

  16. Assuming my calendar had been clear in December, I most decidedly would have preferred Shreveport over NOLA. I was capable of going to the NOLA bowl, but short notice, cost, and distance tipped the scales ever so slightly against my going. I was already taking two other trips that month and incurring cost, so I couldn't justify it. Shreveport, I could've done a one night stay and been in and out.

  18. Some additional observations: 1. Fine was razor sharp. Hitting all his throws. Touch-fade routes, fly routes, cross routes, whatever... nailing his receivers every time. He and Shanbour were having fun out there. Jumping/running around, headbutting guys, yelling... just clowning when they weren't on the ball. 2. As stated above, 3 kickers were out there. I know when it's 33 degrees outside, it's like kicking a football-shaped rock, but that was not bothering Hedlund nearly as much as it was bothering the other 2 dudes. He was even wearing #30. I had to double-check the roster to make sure Moore wasn't still out there. Williams was struggling. 3. DL was really working out there. 1st team appeared to be: Hambone/Tauaalo/Young. Young was playing 3 or 4 technique all practice. No reps at the nose from what I saw. It looks like they want to keep him out there this season instead of him playing the nose. Dayton LeBlanc looks the part, but he was huffing/puffing pretty bad out there. To be expected I suppose for a dude who should be getting ready for his Sr Prom. Strength/Nutrition programs will get him ready to go. He could be a contributor this year like Novil/Krasniqi were last year. 4. 1st team OL appeared to be: Murray/Woodworth/SMose/MMose/Mayfield (just as yours-truly predicted!). We'll see if that line sticks. Coach Littrell brought up moving guys around... said Woodworth may even be moved to RT if Mayfield doesn't get his extra year of eligibility. Sounds like he wanted Preston at Guard to take Henson's spot. Barr was out there, but as far as I could see, he wasnt even getting reps with the 2nd team. 5. WR's... oh man!! All of them looked VERY good. Didn't matter who was throwing to them. Good to see White back out there again. I think he'll be a nice contributor. He and the 2 incoming freshmen will be duelling for Smiley's reps. Got to chat with Rico Bussey's dad. Great dude. Kelvin Smith looked good. Chumley was out there, but not participating... injured? 6. Didn't watch the DBs or LBs as much as I wanted, but watching Brooks man-to-man on Guyton made for some great entertainment. Both guys going hard. Both making nice plays. It was hard for Guyton to get separation from Brooks. 7. The RBs looked good. I forgot Torrey was already on campus, so I didn't get many looks at him. He was out there though, but he must not have wow'd me or I would have had to look up his #. Surprisingly, I thought Wyche looked good! Nic Smith picking up right where he left off. I got to chat with Coach Choice a little afterward. Infectious guy. So glad he's on the staff. Having these young guys with fairly-recent NFL experience on staff is HUGE for us in the recruiting game. Was very excited about Garrison Johnson visiting. He was almost drooling over the guy's size.

  19. This is just a sport writer column stirring up the pot. Every team in the conference has a segment of fans that thinks that their team is better than CUSA. The problem unless they get some P5 attention there are no real available options. The AAC is a half step up, but has the same problems as CUSA and the Belt of being too wide spread and even more expensive. This writer's plan of starting a new football league and then having other sports in other leagues is just not workable partially for a school as far down the totem pole as ODU. As far as his attendance situation, I think that just shows how of touch the writer is. Even if every school overstated their attendance what does that have to do with his proposal? As I just recently discovered, ODU is obcensely financed by student fees and I wonder if they even belong in the fbs division. Maybe a move back to the Colonial Athletic would be their best move.

  20. IIRC, season tickets are counted as attendance whether or not anyone shows up to the game to use those particular tickets. All others are counted at the gate. So the late arrival counts, as long as there is someone still at the gate counting.

  22. If I understand correctly an HS coach hired for an "on-field" position can recruit. It's HS coaches hired for "off-field" positions cannot recruit or the school cannot recruit a player from that coaches former school. The basis being that schools could create positions/jobs to influence a recruit.

  23. Sa'afi is a former highly rated LB that outgrew the LB spot. If he still has the quickness that made him such a good prospect out of HS he could bery a very capable DE with his size. Also an older guy, like Sarge McCoy when he was here. Very interested to see how he performs.

  28. I would say that there were definitely some inflated numbers in 2015, but it was like there were 3,000 people at a game and the box score said 10,000. It wasn't like, say, some other metroplex institution that has 6,000 show up in a normal year and reports 45,000 in a stadium that holds 30,000.

  29. Wow that’s small time thinking right up there with some of the TX State fetishists on here. Good riddance to them. They should instead be pitching themselves at the American; I mean, they took WUshock.

  30. Here is an excerpt of an ESPN article discussing the charges for one of the Arizona assistant coaches(Richardson) that was arrested earlier in the year. It should give you an idea of the types of charges these guys are facing. ... Richardson is charged with six felonies: conspiracy to commit bribery, solicitation of bribes by an agent of a federally funded organization, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, mail fraud conspiracy and travel act conspiracy. He has pleaded not guilty and faces up to 60 years in prison and $1.5 million in fines.

  35. Jeremiah Chapman - Last I heard he works for a performance development company in the Metroplex. They run a lot of the high school summer off season programs around the Metroplex. Also train higher level athletes. Not sure of the company's name. Ryan worked for him at Flower Mound or Marcus for his summer job when he was at North Texas. Very good friends with his uncle.

  39. You have to take into account, he missed the UTEP and didn't play much at all/if any in the Rice game.. You can also take into account that playing LT, FAU x2, and Troy have recruited well for years were solid match ups. Add in the fact that Mason was getting blitzed like crazy and the OL was not giving Mason time to set up and throw it deep as well factored in. That alone is 6 games right there that he face solid talent or missed the game. Army he also go injured in as well.. Teams also did not respect the run when Wilson went down as well, which lead to Guyton being doubled as well. Guyton I assume will be the first to say he needed to improve, but hopefully with Rico starting opposite Guyton next year, it should force teams to not roll a safety his way because of the deep ability of Rico. Rico needs to stay healthy as well.

  40. He is a defensive liability, and that is the quickest way to see the bench under McCasland. Justin Johnson was 2-2 from the 3pt line last night. Both 3's happened while Temara was guarding him. Shane was lost in the lane while Johnson a 41.7% 3pt shooter was wide open. That and Shane can hit anything right now. No point in playing him.

  41. Probably because the TV scheduling is done before the season. The big TV game for CUSA is ODU vs La Tech. That would've been considered a huge matchup before the season.
