  2. Yet ANOTHER sign that this is not the same ol' North Texas and that progress is upon us. It may not be as fast as some (all) would like to see, but only a fool would deny the good things happening over the last few years* *Cue those exact fools in 3...2...1...

  3. So glad this passed. But it does not mean that the Alumni can cut back on their donations to Mean Green Athletics. We need to do our part.

  5. And lack of leadership for 15+ years and lack of success on the field/courts have spawned the lack of student interest. Having followed UNT since I was a student(so long ago!), I have never been more optimistic regarding the future of UNT Athletics.

  6. Wow I underestimated the wisdom of the current students. Probably because I so badly lacked wisdom during my time as a student. North Texas has strength in numbers. This is a great way to capitalize on it. Bravo! And props to Rudy on an all-too-rare deployment of ‘dolt’. One of my favorites in traffic, right after ‘dullard’.

  7. If we're talking wish lists, I would rather we cancel the body bag game and bring top level G5's like UCF, USF, Boise, Air Force, Navy or Fresno

  8. This is fantastic!! Unbelievable!! I never thought I’d see the day that athletics would get this kind of support!! There is no reason we cannot be the dominant force in CUSA West for a long time!! Very proud of the Mean Green tonight!!

  11. APR scores going through the roof. Lets not forget before she showed up we LOST scholarships due to our poor APR. Now to just last year, we made a bowl with a losing record due to our high APR.

  12. Retiring? She's been here for quite a while. Surely she's vested in TRS by now. I agree though, she is going to be tough to replace. That APR qualification for 2016's HoD Bowl is largely due to her efforts.

  14. I'm shocked at the low turnout considering how easy they make it to vote. However, I am NOT surprised at the results. By my quick calculations the vote passed 55% to 45% which matches my prediction: Congratulations to those who campaigned for the passing of this measure. It will be well worth the effort put into it.

  20. Yeah, and those signs are missing the entire point. You remember those kinds of signs because they are funny and you decide to remember them. The problem there is, (if were tied to a brand) can you remember the brand or company that placed the sign? Recall is the single most important part of any advertisement. If you cannot associate what you remember with the brand or product, then the ad did not do anything for the company that placed it. The one exception of a group that is focused only on the message and not the product (anti-smoking or something of that nature).

  23. That or it could be not knowing what's going on at their school. I graduated in 2014 and very few students were aware of votes or elections. Generally, SGA would go to different organizations to meet with larger groups of people and those were the ones who seemed to constitute most of the voting parties. When I was involved in Greek life, they would come to our houses and talk to us but Greek life is still relatively small at UNT. I will say, most of the people in SGA are plugged in with other groups already so those people will generally support their buddies in SGA and vote in their favor. Other than that, most students live off campus after freshman year and only go to campus for classes even if they live in Denton. Many students who do live on campus or spend large amounts of time on campus really don't pay attention to the occasional sign posted around campus regarding a vote. It isn't just athletics related elections that don't garner attention. In my time at UNT, apathy was always very high. SGA elections garnered little votes as well and it's usually the same organizations that constitute the votes.

  29. So how does the department ever catch up with others or at least close the gap? Why didn’t they also ask for a modest 10% increase each year for the next 10 years? At least you wouldn’t have to go through this every five years.

  30. i doubt it, plus it's an easy influx of cash and the kids get to play in an environment that is amazing...and maybe pull off the upset!

  31. I read this... https://studentaffairs.unt.edu/sites/default/files/organizations/student-government-association/documents/Spring 2018 Athletic and Student Service Fee Referendum RESULTS.pdf and agree with Mean Green Matt. The complainers appear to have dredged up picky stuff and just threw it against the wall in an effort to see if they could get something to stick.

  32. You have to remember the staff did not move much Guyton around much, he would usually line up on 1 side and stayed there. It’s easy for teams to double that or roll cover. Also, we have to remember while he was a major addition, but he RSed at ND then went to TVCC, then came in here with a solid but no other true outside WR threat (Yes Lawerence did great and Rico at times but no one made it so teams didn’t double Guyton).. He did a lot for the WRs by allowing the guys below him to slot in allowing someone like Greg White to RS. Also, I do think it helped Masons development having a WR like Guyton who can catch the ball instead of like Goree as the #1 who didn’t have a reliable set of hands.Guyton did have some big games as well, SMU with 2 TDs on 3 catches, USM when he had 14 catches, etc. Guyton could and will improve from this year to next, his major improvement needs to in beating press coverage. It’s on the staff to help with that by getting him in motion, or stacking him behind a TE like Smith or Chumley allowing him to get going before a DB can get hands on him, along with him getting into the weight room. I also think he needs to get a few more looks and chances, Mason seemed at times to be conservative. Guyton made some great catches showing he could go get the ball.

  34. Looks like two separate complaints were filed. https://studentaffairs.unt.edu/sites/default/files/organizations/student-government-association/documents/Spring 2018 Athletic and Student Service Fee Referendum RESULTS.pdf The second one was just throwing anything and everything out there to try and prevent this from happening.

  37. Most likely not. It took Gonzaga years to really build their rep. Remember the year they were like #10 in the country and got a 9 seed? http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/23/sports/2003-ncaa-tournament-west-gonzaga-leaves-arizona-gasping-but-it-s-still.html I can't remember their exact ranking going into the Dance that year, but they were very high and most people assumed they'd be a top 5 seed in the West. Instead they weren't even favored in their first round game if you look at the seeds. This was after several Tournament runs.

  42. NT is losing a ton of money every year on athletics, maybe this new funding will make up for at least part of that loss. The problem with the original athletic fee legislation was that half of it had to go to fund construction. So I doubt and hope that no more of that fee is going to capital projects.

  43. Honestly, would love to see the deck expanded some how and connect with Apogee/scoreboard area. And turn the deck into a party deck similar to the tents they had in the endzone. Or if anything, turn that deck into a larger weight room since the weight room is above the locker room/first floor of the AD Center

  44. Are you surprised about the turn out? I mentioned it in the "Place your Bets" Forum about the potential turn out. It starts early in life and goes until you die. People for some reason dont go and vote. Out of the kids that didnt vote and were opposed to the bill, they will piss and moan about the fee going up. Just watch, happens with whatever election takes place. If you didnt go out and vote, you have no right to bitch IMO

  45. Not substantial, but at least circumstantial. At most, demonstrative, as the student sections look emptier and emptier across the country as the years go by.
