  1. https://athlonsports.com/college-football/ranking-all-130-college-football-teams Only FAU is higher in the conference, and they have us ahead of a lot of other G5 teams. Gotta keep the momentum up. Anything short of 8 wins is a step back.

  2. Yes. Im torn on this subject. I played at 10. But I had great coaches at 10. So beuse of that I let the F5 play at 10 cause I didn't want him to get his ass whipped by the time he got to the 7th grade, like we did the new kids when I was in 7th grade. I felt so sorry for those knew kids. Anyhow, his 10 year old season turned out to be an absolute nightmare because of his coaches...and I nearly went to jail a couple of times over the lack of safety and the dangerous tactics being taught . His 11 year old coach was awesome and redeemed my faith in youth football.. Since then he's had great coaches from 7th grade on up. And this included a private session with the great Troy Kokjohn, teaching him proper snapping skills after his 7th grade season. Unfortunately, He didn't grow by the time he hit his freshman year, and has been the smallest lineman in his age group. His Freshman season I started a photo album on my Facebook page titled..."Messin With Sasquatch" because of his size disadvantage against much bigger players. Yet he was the starting center on the A team that year, his freshman year, and has started every year ever since. Anyone who knows him knows how ridiculously small he is for an O lineman, but he's tough and does his job against the bigs, and had a great JV season this past year on a team that went 8-2. I contribute his toughness and success to an early start, and that of great coaches from 6th grade on up teaching him proper technique and the importance of job responsibility. He lives for making his QB and backs look good. That sounds strange.....but that's what he says? I guess I'd have to say it's all up to the parents assuring that their kids play for good coaches who know their trade and know what the hell theyre doing...and not some fly-by-nighter weekend want-to-be.. BTW...I apologize ahead of time....but I'm just a little proud of #60 below. Rick

  3. https://swcroundup.com/news/2018/2/18/can-north-texas-line-step-up Curious as what they'll do with Barr this season. He was a good center and could potentially step in at G for Henson's departure. This will be the most interesting position group for next year. Could look completely different.

  4. Really proud of these guys. Class of the conference along with Western Kentucky.

  5. We'll be off to a 2-0 start, and will get our first test against Arkansas. That's a game I think we can be competitive in. If Arkansas dominates NT, we may be in for tough year. I anticipate UAB to be strong, LATech will bounce back, and of course we'll have to play UTSA's Super Bowl in their house this year... not to mention FAU coming to town.

  6. Diversity of Outcome =/= Diversity of Opportunity. Not saying there aren't POC/Women in UNT history that deserve to be honored, but if they're on a building/award/scholarship etc just because they're POC/Women would be moronic.

  7. UH also had the luxury of being in the SWC while we were kicking it in 1-AA. That's a tough head start to overcome.

  8. Excited to say I bought some season tickets in 209 just the other day. Called the ticket office and Kyle was very helpful in getting a first-timer setup. From what he said over the phone, 209 has more sold season tickets right now than 204. Looking forward to being part of the fun this year!

  10. Well, yeah. Over the course of his contract. Not in year one. I just could never even think that at this point in year one, especially after having to resurrect the program from the grave like he's having to do. Rick

  11. With a QB that at times already shows issues with field vision, I don't think sliding him to guard makes sense. He is a good run blocker and maybe someone we could get out in open space on screens, etc.

  12. Nice. And we hung with them along with the other powers in CUSA. I feel like we are one player short of us having dominant team. I think next year will be our year to take over CUSA barring serious injuries or players leaving the team.

  14. This is good news and pub for the conference as a whole. It also opens the door up for 2 teams to get in the NCAA tourney if Middle slips up in Frisco.

  17. In college ball it’s goaltending if the ball is touched after it hits the backboard. As long as it is above the rim. Doesn’t matter if it’s on the way up or down. If it leaves the player’s hand and the defender pins it before it hits glass that’s not goaltending. Hella way to lose the game.

  19. Was he getting paid the way Mccasland was relative to the other Sun Belt coaches? I don't know. Either way, the investment was not on par with Mccasland. You're giving him more than a season. So is everyone else. Sounds like you're implying I'm not. That's not the truth. Point is, we're heavily invested in Mccasland and, given that this has been a one-bid league for a while, the conference tournament results are a heavy portion of determining how good or bad an investment he ends up being. If you include the Arkansas State buyout and prorate it over his contract, we are investing more annually in Mccasland than what MTSU pays Kermit Davis, more than what WKU pays Rick Stansbury, and more than what ODU pays Jeff Jones. That level of investment means the conference tournament results Mccasland produces are paramount, and expected to be on par with the investment, which would mean giving us chances almost annually to win the tournament. Long story short, the weight of the conference tournament is huge for us being in CUSA, so Mccasland really needs to get his team to perform well there given how much has been invested in him. He has done well so far, and I expect his teams to be competitive in March and win one under his current contract.

  20. That didn't happen until year 6 mind you.. I'm giving McCasland more than a season before I consider the value of his hire. Rick

  21. they get a sense of importance when they do this, little do they know they just a jack ass. I just hope the election people checked all the right boxes so this nonsense can stop. If this the same person from the first vote we should deport him to UTSA where he will be among friends.

  23. Our receiving core is stacked next year! I think Brewer/White will be huge additions to an already really talented group. Should allow us to redshirt both freshman, but if one of them is good enough to see the field that would be a really positive sign too.

  24. I just noticed something on that stadium diagram that I hadn't noticed before. There is a Gate 01 at the SW corner of the stadium. Am I wrong that there is no path across the south end zone such that you can get from the red/blue lot to that gate? I would love to be able to get to my alumni side seats w/o walking all the way around the stadium.

  25. They are about $700,000 short as of 2 weeks ago. The IPF has very limited naming locations left at this time. A move to start in 2019 would not be surprising to me. Hope not. The changes to the admin building will be the second phase.

  28. Nothing really worries me on offense, including the OL. If the D shows some improvement and grit then this team will improve leaps and bounds. If we can get to the mid to high 20's (25-29) in ppg defensively, this is a 10-win team.

  29. Being California, you could hand them a flower to end the play. Instead of the players not in the game being on the sidelines they could have designated "safe spaces" where players from either team could go. All kidding aside, I see this as a way to reduce cost and liability and call it "being safety conscious". If they put it to the voters, fine. But cutting to save cost while the state continues to mandate regulation after regulation is another thing.

  30. Thanks. That shows he clearly touched the ball, however it’s not clear info the ball was coming back down. Should have been a no call. Let the players determine the game.

  31. I haven't seen our standalone P&L for basketball, but from what I've seen you are right. Point is, given how much we have invested in Mccasland, he needs to be making the NCAA tournament under his contract for this to be a good contract. And for that to happen, we likely have to win the CUSA tourney given the conference we are in. Otherwise we could have paid a cheaper coach to come in and be competitive here but not actually win the conference tourney. Mccasland's pay means he should be more than that.

  32. It is not goaltending if you hit the back board while the ball is in the air. You have to physically touch the ball which no one did.

  34. NT can not finish, they stall and most times try and miss a horrible shot. Letting Marshall in for a layup with less than 5 seconds is just awful basketball. Questionable defense the whole game, allowing uncontested dunks on the baseline. Simmons may have the record for a 6'9 player getting his shots blocked. Super game by Woolridge and good game by reliable Smart, the rest of the team struggled tonight. Duffy and Miller did contribute, so that is a positive.

  35. Exactly. Keep in mind that the last vote was invalidated because they felt like the unapproved use of the SGA logo could have caused confusion by the flyer that was against the fee. Seems like it would be odd to void the results if the fee passed and the infraction was by the opposition.

  36. Im wondering how much both these elections have cost the School? Maybe its not that much, I dont know. I know its all online but they have to pay someone to set all that up and then go through the results. Did I read a previous post that a third party goes over the results? It also angers me that the Athletic Dept basically threw away money (OUR Money) on their marketing due to this BS. It's not the Ath Dept fault, its the schools fault for allowing this BS. Which ever way the vote went, the school needs to step in and say "This is the result and this is how its going to be". IF we lose students due to the raise in tuition, then so be it, A kid that didnt get in, now has a chance to achieve his educational dream.

  37. Give me a break. The university stepping in to control the SGA would be worse. This is a student issue since it is going through the SGA. You want to argue that the administration should go about funding of athletics differently, fine, but this back and forth going on with this vote is purely in the court of the SGA.

  45. ADs and Conference Commissioners have been arrogant in assuming attendance numbers were guaranteed as they announced to all that their chief concern was TV dollars. Realignment motivated by media markets leads to lower visiting guest attendance and the ease of access to CFB on television makes attending a game less "necessary." In the end, though, the real problem is the length of games. Making a four hour (or more) commitment is a huge hurdle to many as they decide whether to head to the game or spend their time elsewhere.

  46. It’s tragic that some of these HS coaches let their egos get in the way of these young men making the best decision for their own future. That coach hung this kid out to dry waiting for an offer that never came. Oh well, if he has to go P5, he will likely enjoy a year at juco first.

  47. Canales coached Rivers in ‘01 and ‘02 which means he didn’t recruit Rivers and he also didn’t coach Rivers in his best season(the one that got him that 3rd overall draft spot). But I guess he can wow the recruits with that, “I spent a couple seasons with the Chargers quarterback back in college at NC State.” . Never mind the fact that he has been coaching quarterbacks for nearly 25 years and only has Phillip Rivera to hang his hat on. What has he been doing in the 16 years since he last coached Rivers? Because from my understanding I believe he has spent it job hunting because he has been run from one job to the next ever since. SEC qb coach my rear. He got run out of Utah State because they had their worst season of their current HC’s tenure the one year Chico was there. He then went to the other UT and helped Butch Jones get fired. Diner will be fired within 4 years and Chico won’t last any longer than that if he makes it that long. I appreciate Canales’ positive attitude while he was here but I’m glad we “LOCKed THE GATE” behind him when he left.

  48. Blueshirts are for guys that you know you can land now that won't be there for you in the following class. Do these guys, the blueshirts from last year, really fall into that category? Were we 100% certain that there weren't going to be better options this year? If my memory serves me right, I believe those 6 blueshirts from last year had a total of 3 offers that weren't UNT. It's just frustrating to watch it unfold. I get trying to have your full 85, but I'd rather wait until we get some studs in here that are scholarship worthy than hurrying up and trying to fill slots like it appears what we have done.
