they get a sense of importance when they do this, little do they know they just a jack ass. I just hope the election people checked all the right boxes so this nonsense can stop. If this the same person from the first vote we should deport him to UTSA where he will be among friends.12 points

Why don't our students attend the basketball games? I know that the last 4 years were bad but they came back out and supported football when SL arrived. I know football is king in Texas but for a school as large as UNT, you would think we could get more than 20-30 students show up. It's embarrassing. This team plays their butts off and are fun to watch, win or lose. They deserve support from their peers. I don't expect 5,000 to show up like at our football games, but 3 to 4 hundred would be nice. It's free! Any ideas on how to get them to care enough to show up? It isn't just winning or who we are playing. I'd love to hear from the greek organizations and campus groups? Why don't they go and what can the school do to get them to support the teams? Most of us on this board attended UNT. I know I never missed a football or basketball game at home and made a lot of the away games. It was part of the "college" experience. We have to find a way to get that back. Go Mean Green! We should probably hold off on castigating an anonymous student (and by extension an entire generation of UNT students/prospective students) based on a slew of assumptions and no actual facts at this point. As of right now, we don't know the nature of the complaint and if it does/does not have merit. We don't know which side the student who filed the complaint represents. We don't know what side would have won had the results been announced as scheduled.3 points

It'll be funny (at least in the context of this thread) if it turns out the complaint was filed by a pro-increase student who thought the vote was going against athletics.3 points
-
What did you expect? Reminds me of our national reaction to Presidential elections that don’t go our way. And I’m not just talking about the most recent. Now if something really amiss went on, absolutely challenge the results. If this is just a stall tactic then the SGA should throw out the complaint and move forward.3 points

This should be required. You file a complaint then your complaint and your identity become public.3 points

I think we'll try to slow the game down. They have the highest scoring offense in the conference and like to run and shoot the 3. Go Mean Green2 points

I am concerned with the lack of transparency demonstrated by the institutions involved in this process.2 points

Give me a break. The university stepping in to control the SGA would be worse. This is a student issue since it is going through the SGA. You want to argue that the administration should go about funding of athletics differently, fine, but this back and forth going on with this vote is purely in the court of the SGA.2 points

Hmmm, I tend to favor a disclaimer that says "the price of tuition also includes $16 per credit hour for athletics. If you consider this a unnecessary financial burden, a list of other schools that offers similar academic programs as North Texas, and a breakdown of their athletic fees, can be provided upon request". Does the athletic department have student volunteers to help with various game day preparations? Maybe a waiving of fees for some volunteers could be worked out.2 points

When students apply to attend The University of North Texas the application should include a question: Will you support Intercollegiate Athletics monetarily, including a $16.00 per credit hour fee, subject to change annually at the descrestion of the University (or some pro athletics entity)? Yes/No If they answer no, application denied. This will put an end to this complaint tactic schit.2 points

Exactly! Like they know they can prolong things and only do it because they have the ability to. This person would be the one in town to spray paint an ass on the town water tower. Just to say I did that.2 points

Let me guess. The opposition did something illegal ... AGAIN ... simply to delay the vote ... AGAIN. Some people think their personal opinions are more important than the freedom of voting. Those people should be shipped off to China, or Russia, or Iran, or any of numerous places were they would beg for the freedoms they spit on here.2 points

This is a direct quote from the article: "No results from this week's second vote were announced. Outside colleges, election results typically are released immediately, and then election challenges are heard by an impartial body." Who knew North Texas was an Inside College?2 points
-
Students have a right to know what this complaint is immediately....not later. The identity of the person is irrelevant. I want to know why this voting referendum was jacked up for a second time around and how SGA or administration is going to fix the problem in the future. This is rediculous.2 points

I watched the UAB at LaTech game on BEIN Sports after I got home from the game last night, and I don't know who counts their attendance (their stats show they have more in attendance for the season) but we had more in attendance last night.2 points

I know the average student at UNT is probably a different animal than when I worked out there in the late 80s and early 90s. That being said, I am skeptical of social media and cutsy videos to stir student interest in our teams. It will take a lot of one on one from the athletic department to student organizations to get the job done. UNT athletics must fan out all over campus and talk to the groups and simply tell them how much they are needed at games. A rapport must be established for this to happen. I am a big Wren Baker fan and I think ultimately he will get student involvement....it is a lot of work. Hopefully, Wren is doing a lot of things that I am not even aware of to get the students back....I will keep the faith, given some of the huge things he has already done.2 points

I am currently a junior so here is my honest perspective: Freshman Year: I was really excited to watch basketball after football had been really disappointing. My first game I went to we got blown out by 30ish points and became really discouraged. I went to about 35-40% of the games that season and was consistently disappointed. Sophomore Year: BAD! I went to maybe 50% of the games, even though it was absolutely terrible. I was just so upset that we would lose every game that I was like what’s the point. Junior Year (This Year): We hired McCasland so I was really optimistic. We lost some games that we really shouldn’t have but I was still excited. I’ve been to about 65% of the home games this season, usually sitting in different places. Realisitcally, we need to be a good team in order to get more students to show up. I’m on the board, so I obviously care about UNT sports and even I can only bring myself to about 65-75% of the games. BTW: I haven’t missed a single home football game in 3 seasons, so I really do care.2 points

So let me get this straight. Because I "TEASED" you about yet ANOTHER one of your illogical posts of yours above you have somehow concluded that I... 1. Hate you. 2. Have claimed that you are not entitled to your opinion. 3. That murder doesn't bother me. 4. That I've accused you of not being patriotic or christain. 5. And that I'm somehow a war monger. LOL. Did I miss anything? Rick2 points

Thursdays are college nights at bars and clubs. Very few students have Friday classes so the weekend starts Thursdays. Movie's come out on Thursdays now. Students who don't care about basketball need a lot of motivation to go. Like me throughout school I worked and had to pull strings to get off for games. So yes it will take more then just advertising to get students to come see them play.2 points

Get to the NCAA tournament to get it back to what it was during the height of JJ. Win games in the tournament to be on the same level of MTSU. Be consistently good every year with top 25 wins sprinkled in to be like WKU.2 points

Bingo! Replay is a bigger fun killer than TV timeouts. It has diminished the experience for all sports that use it.2 points
-
ADs and Conference Commissioners have been arrogant in assuming attendance numbers were guaranteed as they announced to all that their chief concern was TV dollars. Realignment motivated by media markets leads to lower visiting guest attendance and the ease of access to CFB on television makes attending a game less "necessary." In the end, though, the real problem is the length of games. Making a four hour (or more) commitment is a huge hurdle to many as they decide whether to head to the game or spend their time elsewhere.2 points

Agree with you, particularly the integrity of the process. The way this is playing out, however, smells to me like someone is trying to repeat the process until their side achieves the desired result.1 point
-
For those of you worried about “transparency”... that’s not how elections/referendums work. I’m betting these hearings will be recorded/notes taken, & when all is said/done, it will be released... for “transparency”. The integrity of the process matters much more than what anyone wishes they could see before that process finishes. Just let them do their job.1 point
