  1. This will be the best 2 and a half minutes of your day.

  2. I can't argue with any of this. If the athletic department and the University wants to get serious about something like, then they should contemplate pulling back elsewhere to push forward with this. It would be a win-win for all. But that means the University somewhere would have to be understanding about this.

  3. If he came in and was better than White/Shorter, why would you worry about eating into their playing time? Shouldn't you put the best players you have on the field?

  5. You're correct. An important note is that in order to backcount a scholarship to fill an empty spot from the previous class, the player being backcounted has to enroll in the spring or earlier. In example, if you signed 23 in 2018 and wanted to sign 27 in 2019, 2 of your spots would need to be on high school players graduating a semester early and enrolling in spring 2019, JUCO players enrolling in spring 2019, or FBS transfers enrolling in either fall 2018 or spring 2019. Those players would all normally count towards the 2019 class, but their initial counters could go back towards the 2018 class.

  6. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll be going to some spring practices and see who's making a serious move to move up the roster.........or even get on the roster.

  8. Yes. Bring him on. You can never have too many receivers in this offense. He had an offer from North Carolina coming out of HS. I wonder if Littrell already has a connection with him?

  12. So what do we do now?

  13. So, over lunch I decided to do a little research on our most recent recruiting classes. I only utilized 247sports.com ratings as the basis of my research. I also included only the players that made it to campus, so players like Johnson and Holston were not included. Here is what I found: 2011: A couple of the highest rated recruits Freddy Warner .8214 and Aaron Bellazin .7667. Lower rated recruits were Laramie Lee .7000, Andrew Power .7000 and Cyril Lemon .7333 2012: High end were Boone Feldt .8517, David Busby .8274 and D.Q. Johnson .8173. Lower end near the bottom was Carlos Harris .7333 2013: High were Chad Davis .8271 and Andrew Tucker .8199 with lower being James Jones .7000 and Turner Smiley .7398 2014: High were Caleb Chumley .8289, Tee Goree .8247 and Willie Ivery .8113 with lower being T.J. Tauaalo .7330, Kishawn McClain .7330 and Jeffrey Wilson .7676 2015: High were Kevin Dillman .8519, Darrien McNair .8503, Bradley .8252 with lower being Alex Woodworth .7481, Kelvin Smith .7631, Rod Young .7649 and Courtney Finney .7633 2016: High were Eric Jenkins .8407, Nic Smith .8278 and Wheeler .8117 with lower being Muhammad .7581, Ejiya .7633 and Fine .7743 2017 High were Guyton .8571, Siggers .8228 with the lower being Evan Johnson .7790, S. Mose .7700 and Kemon Hall no rating This is why the ratings, IMHO, for 2 and 3 star players aren't accurate. 2012 was a bad class as far as overall production but it looked pretty good on paper. Feldt never played a down due to injury, I think his brother Cam, who was a 4 star transfer from Arkansas, never played a down because he couldn't crack the two deep, Busby was a bit player and left the program early, Johnson never saw the field, etc... and these were our highest rated players in that class. Then we have a lot of players like Laramie Lee, Cyril Lemon, Turner Smiley, James Jones, Kishawn McClain, etc... that were great players for us yet lightly regarded when recruited. This is why I don't get all up and arms when our class's rating isn't leading the conference, and why I choose to wait and see how the players develop.

  14. https://247sports.com/Player/Reggie-Hemphill-Mapps-23451/high-school-37408 I'm sure he will have plenty of opportunities, but given the Manvel connection maybe we could have Martin give him a call at least. What do you guys think? Worth it for 2 years of playing?

  16. Just wondering. Example - the comments out here (El Paso) had been UTEP only had 16 "open" slots. Today they signed 27 (according to the UTEP website). The coach has also said he is looking into adding Grad transfers. Perhaps they have a lot of transfers?? My question - Is it that easy to manipulate the system? Thanks

  17. He maybe better than White and a Shorter, but White and Shorter are long term options (4 and 4+ years) for both players. But we have no idea, we should he recruiting transfers on the defensive side of the ball to help this offense. We have 2 years of Fine left and need to be improving the defense to build on our success and we have no idea if the next QB can do what Fine has done. He would also take up another Scholarship, ontop of Lawrence likely getting a scholarship as well since he is Walkon still. lol

  19. We are returning 1st and 2nd on the DT depth chart and signed 2 interior HS linemen in Leblanc and Shaw. Based on the the JC guys that were signed it seems the staff is more concerned about replacing Wheeler and Flusche.

  26. I mean, do you believe this stuff you type? SMU is sitting at an 81+ average with 13/16 of their commits as three stars. They are not scrambling, they are easily out recruiting UNT right now.

  29. I think we can all agree that UNT has stepped up in financing athletics. The IPF is a 50% match by UNT would be one example. Like you mentioned in your last paragraph athletic success brings value to the degree through recognition of the university.

  30. Not quite that simple but very close. Don’t get me wrong it would be great to have another weapon for Mason’s senior year. If he comes on as a walk-on great. But you need to think about scholarships slots if he isn’t a walk-on. The Mean Green defense needs front 7 help. Needing score 38+ a game against G5 opponents to have enough wins to be bowl eligible is not a good posture to be in. If your defense rarely gets off the field without giving up points that is exactly the position your team will be in. WR is worthless standing on the sideline while the opponents offense is marching down the field eating clock on the way to 7 points.

  31. Have to factor in, he would likely eat into playing time for White and Shorter... I get that a rotation would be used, but I don’t know if you wanna limit/handicap them just yet.

  32. He was Texas’ number 2 receiver this season. He’d sit out a year like the Kansas kid that’s just came in but that’s fine with me if we get 2 good years out of him. Guyton, Bussey, and Lawrence would all be gone by Hemphill-Mapps senior season.

  35. Again 9,000 students in a community with a ton of other things to do and other school loyalties within families. So if you want to criticize the fandom go right ahead. I think it’s stupid because with the resources we have at UNT we have no excuse for not seating at least 28,000 every home game. Not giving any kudos to TCU.

  36. You do realize that it might be a tad easier to come in and play on a team that went 1-11 the year before than one that went 9-5. I don't expect to find another Fine in this class, but I think it will be a major upgrade to that first class. As far as needs, NT recruited 5 linebackers and 4 safeties; so I think NT addressed LB and rover issues. Not sure what rover is but NT addressed the nick and jack defensive positions. Per Littrell having 18 scholarship offensive linemen is enough. NT added depth to the defensive line. This is not a great recruiting class on paper but it is substantially better on paper than Littrell's first two classes. Having only 19 ships limits the class to some extent. There will be a lot of good players that come out of this class and hopefully some future stars. Other than the safety group and oddly QB, this class doesn't have a lot of star quality, but IMO and most others this class will be the best of Littrell's classes.

  38. No way this staff isn't for sure he'll play and not get serious about getting a JUCO DT to fill that void. TBH, they should have either way, but if his career is a wrap it will be a monumental mistake not doing so.

  39. More recruited players are rated 3 stars, more than anything else by far. Ranking services state they rate more football players 2 stars, but a lot of those are never recruited to a fbs team. Look at current 247 rankings of CUSA signees. 2 four stars, 160 three stars, and 118 two stars. Being that CUSA is certainly on the lower end of the recruiting by conference scale; it is easy to assume that there are many more 3 stars recruits actually signed to fbs scholarships than 2 stars. I have no stats to back it up, but I have no doubt that we are seeing star creep with more and more 3 stars and conversely less two stars.

  40. I said it a few months ago, recruiting has improved for us. But, dudes, c'mon....Look at the top 4-6 in CUSA. They did very, very well and most of them, if not all, do not have a whole lot to hold over us. But yet there they are pulling in 70-90% three star class with huge offer sheets as a class. But here we are...

  44. Buy a ticket for the beer garden for the FC Dallas home opener. It’s March 3rd against Real Salt Lake. It’s the best fun in the offseason! I am excited to attend the Dallas Beer Guardians 24 hour tailgate outside Toyota stadium on March 2nd. The futbol crazies are wild with a 4 hour tailgate but a 24 hour! This should be fun. Go FCD!

  45. It's great to be proud if the kids, but aside from 4 games, this has been a lateral move conference wise this season. That will be proven with the amount of NCAA bids CUSA and the Belt receive (1 each). Beating Rice is a very small feat, as 18 of the last 20 teams to play them have done it. So advancing, while great for the kids, is no feat for the program overall. Get ready for some really bad basketball next year.
