  1. To put this in perspective of just how much the improvement SL and company have brought here, this list has us 11th overall in the G5s. Three years ago, as SL got hired we were dead last on most lists of worst programs in America. That is absolutely insane...

  3. Don't forget about Gibson. He looked like he was going to be a good CUSA guard. Good shooter, ball handler, quick, and good on-ball defender. He would probably be the third-leading scorer right now

The Mean Green have gone from 1-11 to 5-8 to 9-5 over the past three seasons, with impressive growth on offense led by coach Seth Littrell. They get back 4,000-yard passer Mason Fine and most of their receiving corps, making them a Conference USA contender again. 59. Arkansas. 44. 8. I tend to agree with BTG on this, going into next year. Realistically though, If our defense doesn't improve it is going to be very difficult. Hard to blow teams out, when you give up 30+ a game.

  9. Just be happy with wins. This program has been down for a long time and expecting that we win games by big margins in more than half of our games is not where this program realistically is. SL has made leaps in a short amount of time, but being a dominant team is not realistic given where we are and where we have come from. We just don't have the depth to dominate every opponent. Let's see how this year pans out and where things are and consider that for next year. Realistically, we should have bigger wins in more games this year, but not as frequently as you demand. Comparing us to FAU is not a fair comparison. Their previous coach didn't succeed, not because he couldn't recruit, but because he was lost in game planning and game day execution. The team when Kiffin took over was far ahead of where we were when SL took over. Not sure why getting votes is so important to you and why you are surprised that FAU didn't get many votes. In order for a G5 school to get votes, you either need to be undefeated late in the season with a win over a respected P5, or have a recent past history of success. FAU didn't meet those requirements. The voting has only a mild correlation with on the field results, and that is exacerbated when you are a G5.

  10. Men's team found a way to win, at this point in the season, that's about all I'm concerned with. Find a way to win and keep getting better. We won with Smart being a non factor until 2 minutes left when he hits 4 FTs. If we had 1/2 more legit scoring threats we'd be tough to beat. I LOVE Zachary Simmons! That kid is going to be special for us. I know now this is unpopular opinion but, Lawson SO, Woolridge SO, Simmons Freshman, Tikhoneko RS, Smart SO, team has make up to be special next year. Need Lawson and Woolridge to find a way to become 70 % FT shooters. Need to bring in a dude to fill Tamara shoes and we should be rocking and rolling. I'm hoping with new dining hall, and nutritionist (hopefully all our athletes have access to them). We should be able to put solid weight on every kid in the program.

  11. These guys aren't going to spend 15 hours learning a new offense or defense. This isn't football. Sure there are a few coaches out there who run a ton of sets, but even then your not working on it 15 hours a week. Your time in the summer is working on your game. Your working on where are you going to get shots in that offense. Work on dribbling. Working on passing. If you struggle at free throws and you know your going to get more than 2 a game then your working on Free Throws. Good players set their own practice routines in the offseason that attacks all areas of their game. I've watched every minute of every game. Woolridge does give great effort, but your acting like he is pushing the ball for 40 mins. Non stop fast break.

  12. It really isn't a slippery slope though. There was no war to keep women down. If there were a statue memorializing all the men that died in their fight women's' suffrage, then absolutely I would say it should be removed from public space. The Germany example is not even remotely the same. They kept the war CRIME locations as the monuments. They destroyed any and all Nazi public structures that memorialize their cause. They do not even talk about their fallen soldiers who died in the losing effort. So if you want how Germany was able to move on, then I agree. Get rid of these sanitized Jim Crow monuments. Keep the battlefields where they all died ... make them a memorial to how it was a losing effort for the wrong reasons. People can die in error and on the wrong side of the cause -- it happens. You don't need to keep a Jim Crow monument that was put up 70 years later.

  13. I am normally in lock-step with my man SE-66, but disagree here. You can add pictures and explain how blacks used to have to bow to drink water... the evils of segregation... the south lost the war, but continued the battle with blacks, etc etc etc. You don't have to keep some watered down cheap monument that now doesn't convey any of that. If you want to honor dead Americans who fought on the wrong side of the war, put it on their tombstones. Create a museum entry for how it used to be and not allow it to be washed and sanitized with time.

  14. free throws are a basic skill learned early in basketball. You cant blame bad free throw % on learning a new system....free throws didn't change....ever. Same height goal, same distance from the stripe....lack of concentration/confidence/practice...... It is the same shot ALWAYS

  16. 1.) No 2.) Maybe. No. Most used statement - "learning a new system". Its an excuse that doesn't hold up here. They aren't learning some elaborate way of playing basketball that they cant get in the gym and shoot on their own. Its possible that Lawson's wrist injury is bothering his free throw shooting. Woolridge's mins and walking the ball up are not hurting his free throw %. If you struggle shooting period, you struggle shooting free throws. Rhythm, muscle memory, confidence, form.

  23. He doesn't lead CUSA in minutes played. He has already taken more shots in all those categories than he did last year. The four guys who are averaging more mins per game are all better free throw shooters then him. Yeah he is doing more. No doubt.

  24. I suspect most of us will never know why Conley left it could be: He was terminated, not likely or he would not have another job this quickly. He found another job and quit. Not that likely either, why would he prefer Arkansas State? Most likely guess, from someone who has been on too many of both sides of reorganizations. He was told he did not fit the current organization and was given a timeframe to find another employer. Whatever, I hope all parties end up better off.

  25. You have all probably heard of the business strategy to price where you want to be. IF, a product is priced below the market value of a similar product, that product will seem to be inferior. If price equally, it will seem to be on par, and if priced higher, value will be perceived as greater. Sometimes, raising the price of something will generate a greater interest in that product... I am sure that WB and team have produced market studies in like markets that justify this increase. I don't see WB doing anything on a gut feeling of "let's try this" or my equivalent of "hold my beer". I think this present group consisting of administration and AD have earned the respect of knowing what they are doing. Let the professional do what they do, and we will/should do what fans do....

  26. Free throwing shooting percentage can improve. The player needs to put in the time and effort. It isn't as much fun as jacking up 3's, dunking, putting on a dribbling exhibition, etc... It is a basic fundamental skill, the type that don't get enough attention from players today because they aren't flashy and they don't make people "ooh" and "ahh." Years ago, the Dallas Mavericks were a very poor FT shooting team and then they brought in a coach that specialized in FT shooting, I believe his name was Boren, and the team should great improvement. I worked at their practice facility just prior to Cuban purchasing the team, and what stood out to me was the time Nowitski put in to FT shooting at the end of every practice.

  28. Definitely defense.....and in the run-stopping/stuffing category. English needs to be back and fulfilling the promise/.hope of his middle clogging abilities. If that doesn't work out then a more bulked up version of some of the young D-lineman that got playing time last fall (Kasnigi, Novil, Reynolds). Offense... replacements for our graduated offensive lineman. And, like I said in my advocacy of Conner Means being moved to RB, a fast power back to provide a change of pace from our quick and fast Mr. Smith.......and others. Not counting our fullback, we have four running backs on our roster that weigh in at over 200 lbs. And only one (Andre Alger #34, 5'9X215) that is over 205. addendum: maybe it's this guy......http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2017/05/29/sfa-running-back-loren-easly-plans-transfer-unt addendum (2). Like Conner Means, Mr. Easly selected an excellent historical number to wear.....23. Former players wearing #23 The late (and great) Bernard Jackson (78-80) holder of the single season rushing record (1451 in 1978) until broken by Patrick Cobbs (1680 in 2003). That's 25 years. The very steady and durable Monty Moon (84-88) Still the career passing record holder, Mitch Maher (92-95)

  29. Honeslty if we take SMU with their new coach and a seemingly down-at-the-moment Arkansas, we could be facing FAU undefeated. And I have to admit they're the most daunting opponent on our schedule.

  39. TCUs attendance was just fine for the level they were playing at, the upper non-P5s. Once they started winning and getting ranked, they got good numbers for home games against the MWC teams they played between 2006 and 2012. Specifically, I remember games they hosed against Utah and BYU being sellouts toward the middle and end of their MWC run, while really good crowds showed up for games against Air Force, Colorado State, and San Diego State after they began finishing ranked at the end of seasons. Ft. Worth is like most every other city in the country. They like sports and want to have something to take pride in for their city. TCU gives them this--in part because the city WANTS it. If any of you believe Denton feels this way about sports, especially UNT sports, you are just denying history. Sure, there are some citizens that do, but if Denton truly liked our football team, we would have had multiple sellouts at Apogee since it seats over 30k. We haven't had even one. Denton folk predominantly like eclectic art and music. They like nature and science. They like being close to DFW to go down there to be entertained. But they either don't care about UNT sports enough to support it or they absolutely loathe its existence. Its just how different Denton is from every other city with a FBS school in it, at least in this region of the country. And as I've gotten older, I have come to realize that there is nothing wrong with Denton's sentiment toward UNT athletics--its just different than anywhere else. A great example is from the other night's home basketball game where an older man screamed profanities at a fan for doing something unbelievable in front of him with a minute or less to go in a tight game--the fan in front had the audacity to stand in front of him and cheer on our team in a close finish. I can tell you that this ain't happening in any other college arena in this region of the country,

  40. How many of those 1M people went to TCU? Fans from other schools in the city are not likely to go to a TCU game unless they are playing TCU... You have to take into account as well the pricing as well, I have no idea the cost of a ticket at TCU... UNT would a lot of good by growing into Ft. Worth as well.

  41. You keep talking about the SWC but current students have no idea about the SWC nor do most fans that in their mid 30s.. The good old days of the SWC if for the older individuals that UNT doesn’t need to target.. UNT needs to be targeting recent alumni..

  42. I encourage you to check the home game attendance for TCU before they joined the B12. Their crowds were disappointing for a school in the middle of a town the size of FW. Saying their attendance was good is revisionist history, IMO.
