  1. This is a team that two years ago went 1-15. They're still undersized and slower than most FBS programs. Yet we won nine games with delicious last second wins against UAB, UTSA (who didn't go bowling because F those guys), and Army. We got rid of the thugs. No arrests this year. We played clean. We have scholar athletes, and isn't that what this is really about? STUDENT/athlete? We have that in spades. Seth Littrell has brought national attention to our program. It hurts that we lost today, but I saw us run the table at home against some great competition with classy STUDENT/athletes in Apogee. Thank you Mean Green players and coaching staff. I'm proud of all of you to a man. I'm proud to share my alma mater with each and every one of you.

  2. At the end of the day, very few predicted a nine-win regular season. Even less predicted a run at the conference championship game. These team exceeded our expectations going into the season and now a lot of us are guilty of forgetting that we were still a bad team last year, and horrific the year before that. I, as well, was not a fan of going back to New Orleans. Probably more selfish reasons (graduated today) than the beliefs held by the alumnus on this board. We got our asses handed to us by Troy. It's ugly because we were supposed to be better than the Sun Belt, but let's not discredit Troy. They are a great team and conference champion of the "lowly" Sun Belt is nothing to scoff at. We have Mason Fine and Jalen Guyton for two more years. Nic Smith is going to be a great replacement for Jeff Wilson. This defense has nowhere to go but up. Yes, today sucked. But there will be even better times ahead for this team. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of my complimentary season tickets that every graduate was offered today in 2018. We have a great chance to start the year 2-0 and 3-1 heading into C-USA play. We will be back again even better next year. From this new North Texas alum, I'm still proud of the effort this team put into the season, and I am excited to continue cheering them on. GMG!

  3. He played a hell of a game. I noticed something about him. He was hitting the hell out of Troy, but every time he did, he picked his fallen opponent up after the play. Class act. Proud to have him in green.

  4. That was an amazing game to be at. Probably a dozen other NT fans were there, though most were related to players (I met AJ Lawson's cousin who is in the Navy and stationed nearby). Not a full crowd, but that was a loud arena. Felt really good to walk out win the win.

  5. 1-11 just 2 years ago. Some have forgotten what that felt like. Extend him ASAP and get a bigger buyout clause.

  6. Extension. He has done better than expected IMO. Only one guy performed miracles and he ain't available for our gig.

  7. I remember that when SL got hired someone asked him about defense. His response was something like this... I’ll hire someone whose defense scares me to go up against. And then we hired Ek. I miss Ek. Like, a lot. Certainly, our current defense doesn’t even come close to intimidating SL. It doesn’t intimidate anyone in the FBS. Ref needs to go, and soon!

  8. The bowl game was disappointing to say the least. We had a very good season considering where we were two years ago. I think next years win total will be close to this years. I just wanted to thank the coaches, players and everyone else that made this season one to remember. I can't recall ever having won so many close games in the last seconds or minutes. Keep your heads up, don't listen to us, and move forward in life. So enjoy the holidays and we will see you next season. Hopefully we will add some defense lineman and linebackers to help you out. Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year! Now on to basketball.

  12. Seriously?!? He won 9 freakin Games! We won 1 game 2 years ago. Did you hit your head? He’s an offensive guy, not defensive! He can find another defensive guy so why don’t you take a deep step away from the edge of the cliff. Am I thrilled with today’s ending, F NO. I paid to come all the way to NOLA but by no means am I ready to doubt this team. You realize how young this team is? A lot could of gone Wrong this season but it didn’t. Did it end like we all hoped? No. Keep on Livin and GO Mean Green!

  13. I was in boca now New Orleans. Tough ways to watch the team walk off the field after two arse whippings. But wouldn’t change being there. You never know when magic will happen. So show up support have fun and take the ups and the downs like a champ. GMG

  16. The current OL coach cannot carry Brad Davis's water bottle (Brad Davis is worth two more wins on the season). The OL lived off what Coach Davis had taught them last year with very little, if any assistance from new guy. From Beaumont to Denton he was outcoached thoroughly at this level. What was exposed yesterday was the same damn thing the DE from SMU did to us the first game of the year, I was just amazed more opposing "D" did not pick up on it. When you have one OLineman have bad game or bad group of games, then we can point to the kid or kids, and lets remember these are kids, but when you have a group of three or four or the whole damn group having bad games back to back to back then its coaching and no changes were ever made because the current staff can point to the 9-3 season and go "look at the improvement". Put the blame where it belongs NO WAY Littrell keeps this guy.

  17. I agree. They should have pulled him the moment they realized his O-line and defense couldn't keep him in this game. So, right around Sep 1 would have been appropriate

  18. You are 100% correct. Get him an offensive line for him or let him out of his scholarship commitment.

  19. Florida State was not on the level of Troy this year. Troy is a good ass team. This isn't Texas State out here. This team has won 21 games in two years and beat LSU. Ya'll should be saying "well at least it was a very good Troy team" Y'all should realize that New Orleans was an opportunity and the fans and the team failed. The turnout could have been better. It wasn't. I'm sure everyone had better things to do -- graduation, weddings, barbecues, high five time -- but Troy's people didn't. Sure, maybe that is sad in some way, and the average NT alumni is living a more fulfilled life but when it comes time to compare support NT looks whiny, quick to make excuses, and lame. They showed up and supported their team. And our, apparently non-trash, non-'hillbilly' fans were back in DFW sad that we weren't in effin' Shreveport or -- gah -- Frisco. Please make better complaints than "I'm sad that we lost to a good team that my buddy isn't familiar with, so it is hard to talk football with him".

  22. He should have gone to the OL bench and ripped their #^*^ let them know you’re tired of getting murdered play in and play out. I was so mad at the end of the game when the OL kept helping him up and patting him on the back. NO do your damn job and this doesn’t have to happen!!

  23. I'd be fine with a small extension or making his buyout larger when other teams come calling. We had a bad game. Let's not forget how bare the cupboard was when he got here.

  24. We were a 6-6 team that lucked out and won 9 games.

  25. I believe this staff got the most possible out of this team. We're still not as talented as many teams in the conference. Also, it seemed every time they talked about one of our players they would show his name and it would be followed by a "FR" or "SO". We're still an incredibly young team on the field.

  26. We were 1-11 two years ago and now we just bitch about where and who we play while we are in the game. What a joke.

  27. I know that a lot of people do this anyway, but one day I would like to see "Glory to the Green and White" sung A Capella by the home crowd. The band could do it's usual intro/lead-in, and then the crowd would take over from there.

  28. Once again...how did we manage to end up here? All the nonsense about us wanting to go here for this reason and that reason was ridiculous. There was no benefit to us ending up here. What do we get from playing a team like Troy? We win and it’s “you should beat a sun belt team” we lose and it’s a huge issue for the program as you just lost to a SBC team that we were so eager to get away from bc we were better than them. We should’ve either been closer to home in any of the DFW area games, where we can have a huge turnout with our fan base. Or playing FSU in Shreveport. We win, hey we beat FSU, we lose, oh well, it was FSU. Whats happening now is exactly why this was not a good situation for UNT.

  29. Wether you are an alumn, a student, a player or staff member these bowl games are one more chance for friends and family to get together and make lasting memories you'll cherish forever. Friday night with many friends new and old in front of Fritzel's bar where Stebo ate the crow I prepared for him back in 2001. Some I haven't seen since our last trip down. So good to see y'all again for another great memory. Hope everyone got home safe and sound. Rick

  30. PlummMeanGreen is absolutely on point. Making decisions without accounting for the impact on recruiting and attendance is just stupid and UNT Athletics can’t afford to do that. And all I hear are excuses from some Mean Green faithful. Hey I am all for supporting the school and Athletic program anyway possible but we need to stop giving them a pass. Boise State, UTSA, FAU, and FIU among other young programs aren’t making execuses they are kicking our ass more they lose to us. Looking at resources and the size of our school we should be giving Houston a run for the 3rd best FBS program in Texas. We aren’t there because of 40 years of little bad decisions like this one. In addition to huge bad decisions like hiring a highschool coaching staff build a program for Apogee’s opening season. And no getting curb stomped on national TV your final 2 games of the season is NOT a successful season. It is an adequate season. Every team loses but getting curb stomped in conference or versus unranked G5 teams should never illicit kudos. This isn’t much better (given the expectations before the season) than last year’s 5-8 season. In both season they lost their most important games at the end of the year and got stomped in 3 out of 4. When this program stops getting embarrassed on the biggest stages you can start “rewarding” players with the better “destination” bowls. If you are a good team you don’t get destroyed by g5 opponents regularly.

  31. I hope we can have a west coast game once every year or two - especially if we have that kinda game. One of the better ones I've ever seen live. Even my girlfriend said that it would have been worth going to even if we had lost in OT. Just a fun game...I'll be hoarse for another day.

  32. If our O-Line/Defense doesn’t improve dramatically next year we could be looking at regression. The staff is still iffy on recruiting and Reffett is not getting it done. I hope they make changes and fast.

  33. Holston needs to not be the inbounds man on key plays anymore but hey, big-time win. Gotta be our biggest win since A&M back on New Year's Eve 2013.

  34. Troy is as good if not better than FAU. They are way bigger, faster and stronger than we are and the SUN BELT right now is a better football conference than CUSA. We have a long way to go in order to be able to compete at the top of the G5. Good News, I think our Administration is committed to making that happen. Thank you players and coaches for a fantastic year!! Looking forward to next year!! Go MEAN GREEN!!

  35. I really don't give a shit who "he" is, and I'm a continuing supporter of newdenton. I won't put up with your bullshit here. Go ahead mods, tell me that this guy's dad produces Behind the Green or whatever the hell family connection you've got. Seriously. Go home, get a rubber glove and some olive oil, listen to the lyrics of Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song, and follow in the tracks of his younger brother.

  37. Of course we would love to be in or near the top 25 every year...and with our resources, we should be...but finally being in a situation that will hopefully lead to that, these 2 years of rapid progress have been great quick leaps. Another year or two progressing at this rate will put us where we always wanted to be. So are we Clemson or LSU or Boise State? No. We should have been at that level long ago, but didn't have the necessary support in-house. But is it exciting as hell for most of us that we may finally be on the path to that? Absolutely.

  39. The line is bad, but the play calling and prep does not help. We already know the line is bad ahead of time. We already know they are going to have problems. So why do we have plays where we expect them to block for 4 seconds? Why is Fine dropping back and sitting there like he will have time? Because those plays worked in practice? Well the offense should have been prepared that the blocking would be 3 seconds or less cause that was reality. Where's the safety valve and the check down? No audibles? Keep practicing like you will have 4 or 5 seconds and wide open WRs, and we will continue to have these results vs good teams.

  40. I just flew in from New Orleans , and my take is that you can't beat bigger, faster, stronger. Both our O&D lines were very undersized compared to Troy.We couldn't run, so they teed off on Fine. We couldn't rush, so Silver had plenty of time to throw to a core of excellent receivers.FAU and Troy are who we want to be when we grow up.

  42. Yup. At least a year ahead of schedule. Lost to a senior-heavy team today. Two more years of Fine, a lot of these skill players, and to get better across the board.

  43. Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity. Plays had to be made and the team made them. Give the team/coaches credit. The blow outs should also be addressed, but no need to trash on the wins. They were earned... Even if only by a play, or two.

  44. And I wonder how many Fans from Troy asked "Who is North Texas?", but still went because it was a Bowl game and in New Orleans.

  45. I think there is no reasonable choice other than offering him an extension. 9-5 is 9-5 and UNT did make a conference championship game, that is a pretty awesome turnaround. That said, I would wait until after the early signing period because a) Seth should focus completely on recruiting from here until then and b) how big that extension is should really also be driven by how he does in recruiting. That is more important because the last 2 games clearly reiterated that UNTs biggest obstacle to the next level right now is talent (particluarly at OL, DL and LB) and not scheming. c) I doubt there will be anymore P5 HC firings before early signing day, so I doubt there is that kind of urgency. And yes any extension should increase the buyout significantly, as otherwise there really is no point.
    3 points
  46. Offer SL another new contract.. Make him one of the higher paid G5 coaches, and in return UNT gets a bigger buyout if he leaves and a smaller payout if he is fired since he will be making top of the line G5 money.. I’d offer SL 1.3-1.5M (Kansas pays its HC 1.6 for example) to make it a painful for a smaller P5 football team to go buy him out. Also, We need to increase the OC/DC pay as well.. OC/DC pay needs to go from 500k to 900k-1M.. and the position coaches getting an increase of something like 5-600k if you want to bring in guys we need that can coach and recruit and have a proven history of it.. We just had 1 hell of a season in terms of record.. Bring in proven coaches and not guys trying to get a start..
    3 points
  47. Not disagreeing, but where are proposing that kind of money come from? I'll kick in $100 per year, if you get the other $49,900.
    3 points
  48. I still don’t understand how y’all don’t understand that we didn’t get to choose our bowl slot—the conference tie-ins do that, as well as the bowl committees, and sometimes, the other team and conference. We are small time, we aren’t anything else. CUSA is small time, just like the SBC. Why people can’t get this around here is embarrassing. Doesn’t mean it’ll always be this way, just to get that stupid response out of the way, but we aren’t gonna be anytime soon.
