  1. UNT does a heck of a lot more for Denton than Denton ever does for UNT.

  2. I am sure this has been brought up before, but as a person who was raised in Denton, I find it kind of embarrassing the lack of support that they give to UNT athletics. We have a major university in our city that competes on the D1 level and attendance by people of Denton sucks. Football, Volleyball, Soccer, and Women's Basketball are all playing very well this year and it's difficult to get the people in the city to come out. I know we complain about students attendance and that is understandable, but I don't understand the cities apathy. I got it that not everyone from Denton went to UNT, but damn, you would think a city over 130K could show better attendance. Just my thoughts and me venting. I think if they attended more, maybe it would help bring awareness to the UNT brand and eventually that will translate into more money for the University and the city.

  5. This doesn't sound like #NewDenton. On game day, I've parked at the square, and taken the shuttle to the game. The square was decked out with banners, and there was game day posters on windows of every business. We get a lot further my looking for ways to partner with city and blame the city. The key to these types of business relationships is money. As fans we need to support the businesses that support the team.

  7. I've said several times that UNT should start trying to embrace other nearby cities, most especially Frisco. Make them feel like UNT is their local university.

  8. This all goes back to an administration who wanted a bowl game that was the day of graduations. Yes they are offering one on NOLA, but it is immediately after finals and interferes with students who have already purchased plane or bus tickets to go home. Local students can go, but they too may have pre-planned graduation parties to attend or just want to spend time with their families because school is tough, man. Bigger opponent on a date after Christmas might have had a better draw for upperclassmen who have had their chance to enjoy a week or two off from school by then.

  9. Not surprised one bit. The matchup doesn’t register with anybody outside this board.

  14. What is your problem with our program? SL also turned around a 1-11 team and got us to a bowl, only to lose in OT. SL also has a history of improvement everywhere he has coached.

  15. I predict UNT will win the New Orleans bowl. This has been an incredible year for Mean Green Football, and you now represent the State of Texas in Conference USA during bowl season. All of CUSA Texas schools (including my alma mater, UTSA) are rooting for UNT come Saturday vs. Troy. I believe the Eagles will go in fired up, having fun, and scoring a lot of points in the win. All the best, and congratulations on a great season.

  16. Be curious to see if he tries to run an actual offense out there. I still want to know whose idea it was to do nothing but run up the middle for 12 games in 2015. Did Mac just outright overrule him? Is that who he really is offensively? I need answers, man!

  17. I still don’t get all the Chad Morris nut swinging. He was mediocre at SMU and will be mediocre again at Arkansas.

  18. Winning. It’s the same problem we have. Think of all the alumni that graduated at TCU the last decade that saw their school perform at the highest level. They’re most likely lifelong fans of the program. Decades of being a doormat with a blip of winning here and there hasn’t helped NT.

  19. I think that Sonny Dykes success at SMU will depend on who he can get as a defensive coordinator. Sonny is a helluva offensive coach and coordinator but his record as a head coach is four games under .500 (41-45). That is attributable to a 1-11 record his first year at Cal. Still, he has only had three winning years in seven as a head coach. I'm a little surprised that SMU was willing to take a chance.

  20. Solid hire, IMO. He'll have success there.

  21. It's always been a joke to park down there, even when I lived in the Village (God, I miss that place). Your best bet to any event down there is to ride the rail to Mockingbird Station and then walk over. If you MUST drive, then park at Mockingbird Station and walk over. We really are lucky to be able to park and tailgate right outside our stadium. That seems to be a rarity in FBS stadiums.

  22. So I am guessing one of the following: 1. Stealth recruiting. 2. The weekend that was deemed really important didn't pan out. 3. The players we had on campus don't use twitter. 4. All the big ballers went elsewhere. 5. Our recruiting coordinator didn't coordinate and our HS relations person is focusing on the class of 2022 by reading nusery rhymes at the local elementary school.

  23. CUSA Men's teams went 7-2 on the day, all against D1 competition while out scoring their 9 opponents by 133 points total. Only losses were Rice losing on the road to a 9-1 SFA team and UAB losing at 8-1 Auburn by just 5 points. There were two wins against Power conference programs with MTSU beating Ole Miss by 19 points, and UTEP beating Washington State. CUSA is looking pretty good so far through OOC play. Should be competitive ball once conference play starts.

  27. To answer your question...you are correct that we only have 7-8k on main campus. However, despite being a smaller school we have really great support from our students, alumni and the community. People around there love Troy football. In boxing terms...Pound for pound we have one of the best attendence stats in college football averaging over 25k this year. I can only imagine what that would look like if we had 30k plus students..🤔 Anywat...I think that if we have 12-15k people there for Troy I would call that a success. Hopefully you guys bring close to the same. But to think we each bring 20k in order to be considered successful is not realistic. Nola bowl folks will be very pleased if we cover 30k!

  28. How can people say DD wasnt a good recruiter here? He brought in NFL level talent.

  29. Maybe he typoed and accidentally left the '9' off in front of the '5%' on Dykes's chances.... He meant 95% not 5% You could say every coach in a America was a 5% chance. Saban was 5%....maybe he wanted to move to Dallas because there are no MiCocinas in Tuscalloosa. I would put 5% on that.....

  30. Texas Tech was catering to their DFW alums and using it as a recruiting tool to the Metroplex. Considering Frisco is 30 minutes away, I would rather draw the alums to Denton and Apogee.

  32. ponyfans.com is surprisingly subdued on this. Whole thread about admitting that they're one of the have nots in the G5 and that their coaching search just doesn't generate excitement. I was pretty surprised to read that. I guess not even a cardigan is enough protection against the kick in the balls of your coach fleeing before your bowl game for better pastures.

  34. That's what it gets you at SMU. That said, I think he's a decent coach. There's worse out there. I know because we've had some of them.

  35. Why leave Arkansas for La Tech? That alone kills your point. How about accepting the challenge of turning a program around that has a better upside? If you are that down on us, then why are you here? How do you propose we even turn the program around with your attitude? I am all ears.

  40. Why would any coach want to go to a program that struggles as much for attendance as SMU does from one struggling as much for attendance and support as UNT does? Out of the frying pan and into the fire for a few more $$$? One can live rather nicely in Denton, TX on $1million a year while building a program and a coaching reputation. When Seth Littrell leaves UNT it will be for a much bigger program than SMU and for more $$$ than SMU can offer. In the meantime, I am really enjoying the Seth Littrell Show! Go Mean Green! Beat Troy! See you in New Orleans!
