  2. Oh how the times have changed... 24 months ago we had 1 win at this time..... Now we are griping about the BOWL we are headed to...

  3. If this is true then I'm very bummed. I wanted a shot at a P5, a win could be huge momentum and a loss means nothing because they're a P5. Sunbelt teams do absolutely nothing for me.

  4. the biggest reason it sucks is because it one of the earliest bowls... this team deserved to play a late bowl vs a p5

  5. Class of 2008 Was untwillrise but lost my eagleconnect account. After the black uni debacle, highschool coach, but look at my ring coach, and dumpster fire coach I have decided to come out of the shadows. If we play Tech in dallas I'll be there. If we play FSU in Shreveport I'll be there. If we play South Central Louisiana State in the Bourbon bowl I'll be there.

  6. I'm sorry, but NOLA, (perception wise), looks like a step backward. I understand rewarding the team, and the fans, with a fun bowl experience. But that fun experience only translated into one win out of four trips to the bowl. This team has worked too hard, and the Athletic Department staff has worked too hard, to risk another loss at a lower tiered bowl. If there is any way possible, the Indy bowl would be much more ideal.

  7. Shocked anyone is excited about the New Orleans Bowl. I get that the Dickey years were fun (they were a blast) but don't sell this team short because of nostalgia. This team deserves better. Wren Baker should be busting down the doors of CUSA and ESPN to get that independence bowl slot against an ACC team. Also, these things are risk reward. If the most important thing about a bowl game is winning well then we ought to play a 6-6 sun belt team every year. The potential upside of beating an ACC team FAR outweighs the risk of a loss. Get it done Wren. Settling is Old Denton.

  8. I begin this by saying that I realize I am part of just a couple 100-1000 possible students this applies to BUT Not getting started on the selection of NO Bowl, because I hate that we won’t be playing a non P5 team & probably playing a team from our former conference. And playing in one of the first bowls of the season at noon. NO/NM bowls fall on December 16th, the COB & Arts/Sciences colleges graduate that day, probably more. I know the team/athletic department have to do what’s best financially/prestige wise but this really sucks for students that are graduating or attending one. I began during the epic 2013 football campaign & got to enjoy that amazing season. It will go down as my favorite football season ever and being apart of that game against rice(goaline stop). I have experienced the ebbs and flows of this team for 4 years. Gone to many road games (Ruston, Boca, Austin... just to name a few) scrapping whatever money I had being a broke student could get in gas money to get there. So ending my whiney kind of soap box it just sucks this great season I won’t be able to attend the crescendo of the season. I considered skipping grad but I have many family members already booked flights to be there and I can’t make it from my 8am grad to Nola by noon. I’ll be back with season tickets next year as an Alum but this sucks. Sincerely, An angry graduating senior #gmg #newdenton

  9. Sorry....this is a TERRIBLE outcome for, at worst, the second best team in CUSA. Justify all you want this bowl, but the perception and optics in the college landscape are bad. I hope this is wrong. And if this is the best bowl the, at worst, second best team in CUSA can garner then my man Wren's top priority needs to be get us out of CUSA ASAP!!!!

  11. You damn right we're griping. If SoMiss gets locked into the Independence bowl vs a better opponent than Troy, then it's BS. That is our bowl for the taking if it's a CUSA representative going to that bowl, period. F this bowl, F Troy. This team deserves an opportunity at a better opponent. And MOST importantly, this team has earned the right for more additional practice time rather having just basically a week for the young'n's on the team. Either way you chop this up it is BS.

  12. Y’all live in your own world lol. Ok nobody cares about any of these bowls at the P5 level. Why not give the kids a good experience? The game will be on tv, on a Saturday kicking off the bowl season. It will be ok, trust me.

  14. Cut to me on Bourbon St. after we notch our record breaking 11th win of the season!

  15. Exactly...this is comical to watch fans complain and overthink this. 3 more days until its confirmed.

  16. Exactly. There is really no difference in these bowls in terms of prestige at this point. It's basically the the playoffs, the New Year's Six, and every other bowl. This isn't 2007 where the bowls were more tiered and non-AQ conference teams were trying to work their way up to crash a BCS bowl.

  17. Oh, HELL no. No way in hell Utah brings near as many people as UNT. Give me a P5 opponent, or give me death! GO MEAN GREEN!

  18. So 9 (at least) wins and a conference championship game berth gets us the very first bowl on the entire schedule against a Sun Belt team? Wow. Something ain’t right. Somehow, almost every other spare 6 win team in our own conference - all of whom will be playing AFTER our season is over - has a more prestigious matchup. What’s the point? Also, the NO Bowl has only had a 9 win team so much as appear twice in its entire history, and that’s NEVER been the team that isn’t from the SBC. Even the freaking SBC hasn’t sent a 9 win team there in eight years. I just remember how excited I was as a student in 2001 when DD’s 5 win team got a bid to NOLA. To think that this team is going to the same bowl, playing in that slot.... that’s a massive gut punch on the whole season.

  19. Could be worse, at least we aren't SMU going to Frisco to play a Sun Belt team.

  20. Is the CCG the biggest game ever played by the Mean Green? I think it just might be. Bigger than any bowl games. I think it is, there are 10 conference champions vs 20 bowl games winners. Plus NT was completely embarrassed by FAU in the regular season. NT has played other games for conference championship such as against New Mexico State in the Belt, Memphis and Tulsa in the MVC, etc. However, never has appeared in a post season conference championship game. Bowl games now days are for any average team. Conference champions are a lot more exclusive. None of the NOB or HOD bowls, NT has played or this year's bowl IMO are any more important than the FAU game.

  21. so is New Denton talking up your business program degree, then complaining how you can't afford a weekend trip to Florida?

  24. When people talk about 2013 Heart of Dallas bowl championship they talk about the W. Not that it was just against a deflated UNLV team... A Bowl win is a bowl win. Beating Arkansas state or Troy in the Nola bowl does more for us in terms of recruiting than a game against USF. I think Heart of Dallas bowl is a no. Frisco bowl is a no. Armed Forces bowl is a no. New Mexico bowl is a no. So we beat FAU i say it's independence bowl or NOLA bowl.

  25. New Orleans bowl is a slap in the face to UNT and C-USA!!! UNT deserved to play a P5 somewhere!! If it's the HUD, Independence, so be it. This should be motivating factor for UNT players to beat FAU!! I can easily make a trip to NO but why, to play a Sunbelt team!! Not playing a P5 team or at least ACC team will give Seth L. a perfect reason to leave UNT ASAP!!! Book it. Take that bet to your local bookie, place bet, cashout, and retire!!!

  27. This thread reminds me of just how amazingly out of touch our fan base can be... CUSA Bowl ties are what they are. Unless bowl slots aren’t filled or other bowls make trades for spots to become available that aren’t normally, you go to the bowls your Conference has ties to. For those of you clamoring the NO Bowl against an SBC team is beneath us, just remember that EVERY P5 opponent in this region feels like playing us is beneath them and has no upside. This bowl game has been great to us in the past and is easy to travel to from DFW. #entitledDenton

  28. Hire a stand-in. Just get someone of your approximate height, skin tone, and hair color to sit through that dreadful thing. If they find out, your family will forgive you, because they have to. It's their thing. I can't say the same for the Mean Green Family. I mean, who would you rather disappoint? 1) Your parents - You've very well likely already disappointed them numerous times, and will probably continue to do so throughout your life. Despite that, they seem perfectly fine keeping you. 2) The Mean Green Faithful - You've seen what happens when these people get disappointed, and it's not pretty. They don't forgive anything. Wearing black, making an anatomically incorrect eagle sign with your clumsy human hands, sitting or standing when they want you to stand or sit.... nothing is forgiven... ever. Without a familial obligation to forgive you, I shudder to think of the potential consequences. I mean, remember Eppy? No... no, you don't. No one remembers Eppy. You don't want to end up like Eppy.

  30. y'all are cute if you think "perception" of our program is going to swing dramatically among many outside of this little dysfunctional community whether we play in New Orleans or against some Big12 school in Dallas or an ACC school in Shreveport. UNT beats Texas in HoD...do you really think the headlines will be about SL and how he's turning things around? no...it'll be how far Texas has fallen...how much work Herman has left to do...hell, what is Aggie doing today will take priority over any real media buzz for UNT. if UNT get's drilled by a Texas team I don't think we're quite ready for, it'll be same ol' UNT. NOLA is a winnable game in a great and easily accessible travel city for a big fan turnout...especially for students post-finals. that '01-'04 run made life-time fans.

  31. First of all, the winner of the SBC championship game will either be a 10-2 Troy or a 8-3 Arkansas State. It will not be a "6-6 Sun Belt team." And it will be a very tough game to win. Troy is getting Top 25 votes so the people who count know Troy is good. That includes Seth Littrell. Secondly, there is no reason to believe we "turned down" the HOD bowl. CUSA does NOT have a tie in there this year and only serious swapping combined with lots of conferences without enough teams was going to put us in it. The same is true for the Independance bowl - the contracted conferences appear to now have enough teams. Third, there is no reason to believe Seth Littrell would leave sooner because we went to the New Orleans bowl. He's going to leave when he gets the right offer no matter what bowl we play in. And from everything I'm reading, Seth and the athletic department LIKE the idea of playing in New Orleans.

  32. Harry being truthful with those thoughts. At least 2 more good recruiting classes to have a winnable chance with the above 3 he lists. Hopefully we have some JUCO's already on campus ready to play in our 2018 football campaign. Any news on that?

  33. This is about having a pretty solid team and wanting the opportunity for that team to get us maximum national exposure. Beating Florida State in Shreveport is a heck of a lot better than whoever Arkansas State is in New Orleans. If we get sent there against our will, fine. I'm worried NO is what we are requesting.

  34. I really hope this is wrong. Whether we win or not on Saturday I would expect the top 2 teams in CUSA to have better bowls. Hell, we had a better bowl as a 5 win team.

  38. I keep seeing posts that we should and deserve to be playing a P5...to me I want a bowl game that we can win. I'd rather win a bowl game vs a G5 than lose to P5. Winning is winning and it'll always feel sweet regardless of opponent. I'm by no means saying/assuming we will win our bowl game against a fellow G5 by any means but I think if we played a P5 and get rocked into submission it would look a lot worse especially to the fringe fans that we're trying to get interested next season and seasons forward. In addition to this we all know that everyone tries to get away from scheduling P5's against G5's. Just the way it is folks...no matter how much we may want one I just don't think it's super realistic we'd get it no matter how hard we try.

  39. Grow up. CUSA does not have a tie-in to the HOD this season, they traded it for the Armed Forces Bowl. A fourth game against Army in two years doesn't do anything for us. The Team feels a DFW bowl doesn't do anything for them. Let's get behind our team and start booking some hotels.

  41. I've been playing the ESPN College Pick'em game for the last several years. Probably some of you have too. You pick the winner out of a 10 game lineup and then rank them for points based on the confidence of your pick. The game you are most confident about you make your 10 point game, the least confident is your 1 point game, etc. In all the years they have never had a North Texas game in the line up until NOW. We finally made the big time...hahahaha. Anyway, thought it was cool to be able to pick my Mean Green over FAU. I'm in the minority BTW, with a significant majority picking FAU (boo). Go Mean Green.
