Sorry but those of you holding on to a super "old man stick in the mud kids get off my lawn" attitude have to accept it and move on. It's not going to go back to the way it used to be. Just like we now have to accept color rush and ads on NBA uniforms. All you need to point to is video of the team getting surprised with the chrome helmets last year. Whether you like it or not it matters to the players and recruits. Those on twitter see it when schools mock up players in the uni's and recruits on visits get to see the swag spread. There are two massively followed twitter accounts dedicated to uniforms and schools and players tweet at them. But we get it...you long for the good old days and wish everyone was like Alabama and Penn State. Let's all just accept it and move on.

They didn't "do us dirty" we feel apart against what turned out to be pretty decent NFL caliber player.

UTEP was up 45-17 on us after 3 quarters. They only scored once in the 4th, and it was on a 3-yard run with 7:51 left. That's not running up the score, at least not in the poor sportsmanship meaning of the phrase.

Pedal to the metal until game is well within hand then pull your starters.

For you old timers, can anyone recall a Fall semester that has gone this well for UNT across all sports? Still a ton to improve on, but this is good reflection on Wren and Co.

Yes, Sorry to UTEP but payback time. and time to get out of this funk this offense is in (and into the zone/ dominating mindset) and for the defense to continue the solid play since ODU.. Pound away on UTEP like SMU and FAU.. Also, no idea but if point difference is a possible factor in determining home field in the championship game.. we need help with us at -3 (I believe). Get up early and then work in some young guys later in the game and rest up for the pound that Army will be dishing out next week as well.

The real question, were those four wins to happen, is how do we justify them? The other team was depleted by injury. The other team's coaching staff doesn't care. If the other team had a better kicker, he wouldn't have missed those tries, and we would've lost. Any team with half a brain would've known not to take the timeout there, and then we would've run out of clock when we got the ball back, and there would have been no way we win that game. The other team had more talent. Our special teams are awful, but the other team was looking to next week, so didn't play to their potential.

This has my vote for best uniform of all time.

UTEP didn't run up the score, UNT was just really bad and uninterested that day. And even if UTEP had run up the score that was a different head coach at UTEP. Still if UNT could get to the point where we can safely pull the starters and make sure they don't take more banging up than necessary that woudl be good. UNTs got 4 more games after this one.

When UTEP breaks their huddle and comes to the line of scrimmage, THIS is what I want their center to see as he prepares to snap the ball:

It seems like every 3 to 5 years I have to come here and correct you on your whacked out agenda against rifles. To start, according to the CDC a mass shooting involves 4 or more victims. The city of Chicago has had 30 of these to date. THIRTY MASS SHOOTINGS and not a word from you about it. Why? Because you know damn good and well very few if any involve rifles....in a place that it's illegal to carry a gun of any kind unless your in law inforcement or a special cert. I’ve said this for awhile now, but Seth Littrell is doing what we are asking him to do—rebuild this program. His development of players and style of play is helping to show that the recruiting process will get better because he has a system that is working against our peers on Saturday’s. When you win in Hattiesburg and in Ruston, the two best programs in our division for most of the last two decades, you’re doing something right. The team is very young still, so there’s a lot to look forward to if they can stay focused, which I believe they will. It’s too bad that this just doesn’t get the UNT Family interested in our games, but that is institutional, nothing else. The problems I see are the openings around here are going to pull him away very soon, maybe even this year, with Tech getting ready to can Kingsbury. Littrell, Harrell, and Filani would make a lot of Tech fans happy to see them on their sidelines next fall. But when it happens, he will have left us in better shape than anyone since Fry left us.

If the battle flag is on a helmet I will be sporting a super sports boner.

North Texas doesn't have any "good ol' days" of uni's.....although I'm nostalgic about the flying worm days. All that any of us old timers have always longed for is a recognizable look that we could stick with for longer than three or four years. I hate to ruin any bodies "sky is falling" "staff can't recruit" narrative but there is going to be about 40 to 50 recruits in New Denton this weekend. Also North Texas has a new commit he will announce this week. I figure before this weekend. I'll leave it at that. I'm just saying I would rather be 5-1 in conference USA right now and already clinched the bowl bid and not "dominating Recruiting rating". Than be our friends down south and killing it in recruiting and be on the verge of not making a bowl and season falling apart. And another side note. When non recruiter Seth Littrell beat Recruiter Frank Wilson earliers this season. Seth played several and I mean More guys he signed than little Frank. So they can't be that bad. The sky is not falling. Just be paitent folks. This isn't Todd Dodge and isn't Dan Mccarney

All of the mid-majors projections are horrible. Journalist barely, put in the time to know the teams or conferences. And a lot of this is just done by made computer formulas. Where the CUSA teams play is more a question of philosophy, than record. The CUSA champ is probably going to be from the East and get the first pick of bowls. The question is will the conference (and that team) want to play in one of the CUSA bowls or a slot from another conference that is likely to open up. So UNT will likely have the 2nd pick and what's our philosophy? Biggest turn out vs. biggest name vs. best opportunity to win vs. coach's travel preference? We all know the bowl options; New Mexico, New Orleans, Armed Forces, Independence, Heart of Dallas, and Frisco. The question is which philosophy fits us?

From a notoriety standpoint.....I think I would prefer playing a middle of the pack P5 vs a really good G5 (which SDSU is) If we beat someone with a name that people know....it means more. Even if they're not as good on the field as a SDSU. Beating a 6-6 ACC or Big 10 team will get more attention than beating a 9-3 MWC team. (Assuming we could) Even though the MWC team is better. Only those that follow college football know that. Yes this is a little picky but I would like to see us start getting some national attention. Just thinking us beating a down Nebraska or 6-6 Cal or 6-6 rebuilding Minnesota, etc. would "look" better. If we want to stop being plugged in at #85 on these national rankings even though we're leading our conference, we're gonna have to start beating P5s.

The next 2 games will have very good attendance. The ODU game was bound to happen. The ingredients were there to have poor attendance, 1) Just got our pants pulled down on the road 2) Halloween 3) ODU. Opponent is a contributing factor into attendance from the SEC to the SunBelt. There just isn't a way around it. Since Apogee has been built, announced attendance has spiked and stayed relatively steady. So, "Build it and they will come" has actually sort of happened. Culture change takes years to do. Takes longer to do when the coaching staff doesn't have perceived "swagger". This is not a recruiting staff. I have said this before, but @Brett Vito wrote a very interesting article when FW and SL were hired about the style of their coaching attacks. Brett highlighted in that article that the staff we hired is a X and O staff and UTSA got a johnny and joe staff. SL has hit on some guys that have impressed me. And there are a few more that were impressive during spring ball and fall camp that are redshirting. We also have that KU slot WR transfer eligible next season as well, he took skinny post 90 yards in the spring game. We can make up ground by getting lower recruited players at the skill positions. We have to get defensive guys and those are harder to develop and harder to mold. As well as OL. These are the positions we have to win recruiting battles. Or defense will have a very long road ahead.

I made this graph a few months back. The guys in this current class are not the ones on the verge of playing in the conference championship. Actually, the upperclassmen on this team are guys from the two best classes, offer-list wise, that we have signed in recent history. 2014 and 2015. Compare that to our team two years ago with upperclassmen from our two worst classes, 2012 and 2013. I don't think Littrell and co are great recruiters. However, they have been opportunistic recruiters, good evaluators, and good developers. They got guys who held many FBS offers at various stages in their recruiting processes but were not actively being recruited by other FBS schools when we got them to commit to us late (i.e. Darden, Hamilton, Nick Smith, Jenkins, etc). That's opportunistic recruiting. They got guys with no other FBS offers and proved their ability to evaluate as those guys have gone on to be solid contributors, like Fine, Kemon Hall, Ejiya, Lawrence (walkon), Sosaia Mose, and Khairi Muhammad among others. That's good evaluating. And they've done a great job developing Fine at QB, as well as many others and the recruits they have signed with good offer lists are panning out at a VERY high rate (Bussey, Guyton, Smith, etc.). They've done a great job so far developing their players. I don't think this is a good recruiting staff. I think if we had a good recruiting staff we'd see us winning more recruiting battles. It's not solely or even mainly because we are North Texas and it's hard to recruit here. But like I said, this staff is doing a good job being opportunistic when top prospects are left with dried up offers, evaluating no-offer guys, and developing. Those are this staffs strengths and it's working just fine. That being said, this class needs to pick it up or else it will more closely resemble the upperclassmen classes of the 1-11 team than the 2017 team. I'm sure we'll snag some guys at the end again, but it would be extremely helpful to win recruiting battles straight up as well with our momentum that we have.

Oh yeah, The Salad Bowl season...One of our New Years Day bowl games. Only a few of these Gameday Souvenir Programs are known to survive....One at the University of Nevada, One in the Notre Dame college sports archives, one with a collector in California, and of course..............mine :-)

Well then, let's kick their ass!

1. Let's wait until the class is complete and signed before rating anything. 2. Let's see how these kids pan out in the next 4 to 5 years.
