  1. UTSA fans can kick rocks, their TE straight up blocked our LB who had the RB in man coverage in their last TD. Like not even pretended to run a route. I hate how much the game favors offenses. Can you tell I coach defense? Id also like to go in record saying I'm not a fan of any of the zoom motions where we hand the pop off to Guyton, he runs good routes and has good speed. Just throw it to him. also like to go on record and say Jeffrey Wilson won us this game, not with his legs, but with his pass pro. Dude picked up damn near every extra rusher last drive, and several other times in the game. Wow, I missed that the first time watching the game.

  3. 1. We ran a twist away from the B gap that opened up and he ran through. We were in cover 1 behind it and the free safety turned to run with a WR running a fade. Leaving Garner alone with Sturm and somehow Garner ends up getting caught in trash of the OL/DL and can't get there. By the time the DB's realized it was to late. I screamed like a toddler when that play was happening.

  4. As a coach I love to learn from people with more experience than me, as a fan I like to see what we did well and what we did not do well. When I watch in the heat of the moment it is hard to remove the fan in me and see the game as a coach.

  7. Not sure, but it does remind me when we had two different NCAA rushing leaders sharing the same backfield in Denton.

  8. I agree with almost everything your saying. The exception being I loved the motion pop to Guyton. I think plays like the pop as well as the QB sweeps on goal line really caught UTSA off gaurd and, to some extent, kept them from completely packing the box and overloading the A and B gaps (which they still did anyways). I think it was a moderately successful attempt at keeping the defense honest. I love talking the X's and O's!!! So much to discuss and learn from! GMG!

  15. What an emotional roller coaster last Saturday. If you were angry enough to leave the game after one of the poorest-executed 4th down plays ever, you were not alone. If you stayed and got your hopes up slightly when the defense held, you probably felt like your loyalty was rewarded with a gut-punch when they perfectly executed their punt, downing it at the 2-yd line. If you STILL believed... you were in for a memorable/elating finish. This week, NT travels to the Florida coast to take on the "other" Owls of Florida Atlantic. This is a team that is on the upswing, running the ball extremely well. Oh, and former UNT recruiting target DeAndre McNeal leads the team in receiving. Their defense appears to be porous against the run, giving up a whopping 258yds/game on average! That is good for Mr. Jeffrey Wilson, who should have a monster day against these guys. Problem is, their rush offense is also very potent. So our defense is going to need to stack the box a little and *gulp* trust the corners to cover. Their QB (another Driskel) appears to be similar to UAB's Erdley (who didn't have a very good day running against us) with some wheels. Going to need Ejiya or Garner to spy him (or do whatever we were doing against Erdley, because it worked beautifully). Preseason, I had this one as a sure-win, as I figured FAU would have taken a few conference L's by now and start to unravel/become undisciplined. That does not appear to be the case, and they, along with Marshall & WKY, are looking like the only real threats in the East right now. The weather is forecasting to be rainy on Saturday in Boca Raton, so I would not expect our offense to be as explosive as usual. Much more running the ball than normal (which should work out nicely against this poor FAU rush D)... I expect a big day from Wilson/Smith/Fine (&Darden/Guyton on the jet sweeps) running the ball. Give me another Mean Green Win. UNT: 31 FAU: 21

  26. Littrell himself said it when we were recruiting Fine. I don't thinks it's crap perception. I think it's reality for G5 programs. Good high school quarterbacks who have good size get bombarded with P5 offers. Most G5s have to choose between short QBs like Fine, Rakeem Cato, Blake Bogenschutz, etc. or try to develop tall QBs who don't have great production, like Connor Means (50% completion percentage in high school) or Josh Greer types.

  28. “Then again, if Mason Fine were a little bigger, he probably wouldn’t be at North Texas. After all, that would’ve given you a reason to believe in him.” This is the kind of funk, crap perception we have overcome. We just have to.

  33. The buzz is starting to spread. I've had friends unconnected to the program ask me about Mason & SL recently. Really need to keep the momentum going and move toward a signature bowl win, hopefully against a P5 in or close to our own backyard. One week at a time for now.

  34. For those of you that complained about the hiring of Martin, Mosley and Peck you can see how that is paying for itself. And, I believe that it will get better as they establish more new donors. You normally get what you pay for and Wren knew what he was getting.

  39. Because it was a hell of a game with an incredible finish? Most of the exciting stuff was in the 1st and 4th quarters, but it was a straight dogfight for 60 minutes. I missed the game initially but rewatched and got to see everything. You can really tell Wilson game from SEC. Looking at their depth chart, the entire defense only has one guy under 6' and that's their nickel. Big thumping linebackers, and tall physical corners. I get that's what he's used to, but with the way most of the teams spread you out in this league, it seems that may be putting them in a bad position. Clearly they've got a good defense, but I'm curious to see if his SEC style ball is going to translate long term in a league like CUSA that spreads you out and throws it around.

  41. I'm 66. Truman was President when I was born. I saw "white only" water fountains in Angleton, Texas. We were Baptist & told racism was a sin back in the 50's. I think it still is. Most Baby Boomers in Texas got "proper raisin'." My parents were Democrats who finally saw where that party was headed. Clinton & Obama proved them to be to right. It's a freakin' train wreck from those 2. Now they are Deep State with what I will predict are gloomy futures. Too many in the heartland clung to their guns & religion which for Democrats are like a crucifix to a vampire. 🙄 I realize a public university forum for the "enlightened" (my butt) progressive is a Lions den for a Constitutional Conservative, but at least we do listen to obstructionists dialogue while they try to shut ours down. SEE UC-BERKELEY. Admirable, aren't they? We didn't march & burn buildings down during communist born & communist raised Obama's train wreck of a presidency. It's called having class--a complete stranger to those apparently born in a barn; you know, like animals? Yet look at the entire list & cast of Democratic Party characters beginning with Weinstein & that list gets much, much longer & translates into a sad comedy. The Dems daily post-election crybaby behavior has caused them to lose the heartland of America who will never vote Democrat in your lifetime again. Every time they open their "resistance" mouths they lose another 10,000 votes so........just keep on talking, Pelosi, Schumer, Menendez, Franken (what a joke), Waters, Feinstein, Gov. Moonbeam Brown, etc, etc & a thousand more et ceteras. Am I still cute?

  43. Actually, my father was up every morning about 4:00 a.m. getting ready to work. He ran his own wholesale produce business and made three buying trips to Chicago every week. We also had a retail store on Main St., so if he wasn't off to Chicago he was headed down to the store to check it out. As soon as I was old enough to lift a box of grapes or tomatoes I was "helping" when I didn't have school. Before football season, Dad thought it was good for me to wrestle 100-pound potato sacks so I got to ride to the wholesale market in Chicago every summer and load trucks in the summer every year. After I graduated from high school (1963), Dad asked me "What do you think I've been trying to tell you all these years?" and I said I didn't know. He said "I've been trying to tell you to go to college, get an education, and don't go into the fucking produce business!". I was able to handle 8:00 a.m. classes. Dad taught me a lot about business, a lot about life, and how to be a productive man. And we had a lot of fun over the years.
