  1. Connor Means was the player who absolutely stood out the most to me. He was always around the ball and in on tackles/sacks. He covered a wheel route that was a perfect throw and catch in the endzone even then he ran with a RB so I was pretty impressed. Quinetin Jackson- He has put on 10-15 pounds on muscle he looks like a legit D1 WR Caleb Chumley- Wow we got a D1 Tight End/H type kid who will help our offense tremendously, just gotta get him to go hard every play. Tre Siggers/Christian Hosley- Both made excellent cuts in the hole when they realized they couldn't run in the designed hole. Also both finished runs very very physically. Riley Mayfield- I may have missed one or two plays but I can't remember him whiffing on a block, can't say the same for his counterpart on the other side of the OL. Lastly our entire defense Reff had those boys stunting, shifting, blitzing from just about every spot on the field. We ran several trap coverages that should result in a few additional turnovers this season. I really like what we have going on defense. Mylam Peters looked good today and so did E.J. Ejiya. The defense is really moving fast, and I like it because our OL looked bad sure, but if they can pick up stunts and blitzes vs this defense then we should be fine going against our conference mates. Our young secondary guys looked good when they got their chance to play.

  2. I'm at the scrimmage right now and can tell you that this first team defense is GOOD. I mean they are very good. Also, Reffett REALLY likes to blitz with LBs. I would say every 4th or 5th play was a blitz, and sometimes more frequently than that. Also, Connor Means looks the part of a really good LB, he has bulked up a lot in the chest. Hambone is pretty much unstoppable. Nate Brooks is really good at making hard interceptions. There were times where the play was over in 1.5 seconds or less because of players getting to the QB. Maybe the OL is that bad, or maybe, just maybe, this is the best defense we have had in a very long time.

  3. Another thread derailed, and I would argue that it is not because of people complaining about lack of offer lists, but because of people feeling the need to justify it. If you like the tape, you like the tape. If you like the pickup, you like the pickup. If you trust Littrell, then trust Littrell. Congrats to Keelan!

  10. You pull him before Q4. That gives him plenty of reps and still reduces the chance of injury in the meaningless minutes at the end of a game firmly in hand.

  14. While I agree with you that Mason should and will likely be the starter, to give the thread a reason for existence I will make the counter argument. That and Quinn is my adopted player so I have to back him up. 1. Shanbour is more mature than Mason both physically and mentally. 2.. Shanbour is slightly taller and appears to have a bigger build which may make him slightly more durable. 3. Fine is coming off a shoulder injury and may be hesitant to let it rip or fight for that extra yard. 4. Quinn works with qb guru Joe Dickinson at DeBartolo quarterback academy when not with the Mean Green. 5. Quinn is on the leadership counciil. 6. You don't get a medical redshirt for a quarterback you don't intend to use. 7. Quinn helped coach at Harrell Passing Camp this year. 8 and most importantly. I want another @Quoner

  16. Starting to wonder if Cade is headed towards a Red Shirt? I would like to see them install a permanent bench at the "Darrell R. Dickey Football Practice Facility" and dedicate it to Brett V. He could then change it up and say - Reporting from the Brett Vito Bench at the Darrell R. Dickey Football Practice Facility

  23. It's no surprise that defense is the strength of this team. In the spread em out, air it out era...I'm not sure that's a good thing because the good teams will score points and we'll have to retaliate with our own points. It's very promising to hear though. This sort of solidifies that we should beat the teams that we are suppose to.

  25. Considering the coach they have, I would be proud of him for the choice he made. It seems like he didn't just go with the biggest or flashiest offer but is choosing to go where he thinks he'll get the best coaching and where the best fit for him is. There aren't many coaches in college who can match Lovie Smith's resume.

  26. IMHO , Shanbours skill-set as a QB is pretty much the same as when he arrived on campus. The difference now is that he has recovered from turf toe, which has added "mobility" to his skill-set. Plus he has been assessed by a different coach, who gave him a fair chance. We'll know in two or three weeks how well he has improved. But so far, going from "never heard of this guy" to second team is pretty impressive.

  27. True, and I'm glad they're doing it, but I thought it was interesting that we've finally implemented it ourselves. Also interesting because of what we deem to be "premium". I would think UTSA could fall under that, but I bet the AD thought that half of all home games is a good number and besides Army they wanted high-traffic days to have higher prices (hence Parents Weekend and Homecoming) -- the opponent on those days is fairly irrelevant.

  30. I was told today that UNT has 2 large $ commits for the IPF. That gives them about 2/3's of what they need and they have 2 more strong possibilities they should hear from shortly. It will be a rounded roof line and they are shooting for a finish date of next fall. They hope to have the donors set up shortly and announce maybe by September. This is just for the IPF! GMG

  31. Guys I spoke with Keyshawn this week. Coach Koonz called him after Hunt Committed and said they were just taking the two LBs as of now. Keyshawn is a good just and understood. I believe if offer was still there he would be Committed to UNT

  33. Great to hear about the progress that some of these RS Fr made, in Nic Smith with him playing a larger role in keeping Wilson healthy, Griffen going to be another tool at WR, and Muhammad at S looking like he will step in and replace gray... Muhammad will be an interesting guy to watch, hopefully he can play well this year and then be the guy after McClain leaves to led the safety's. Also, is anyone else starting to worry about Rico's ability to stay healthy? Seems to get nicked up and banged up often.

  38. Riley received a medical redshirt for 2009 and was a redshirt freshman quarterback when he led us to victory against Ball State in 2009. I didn't know this was specific to true freshmen.

  39. @forevereagle is accurate in his reply. I'll add this: There's been a mountain of baseless speculation on the board in the past couple of months that the AD isn't doing anything on the facilities master plan, department strategic plan, MGC and season ticket goals, new uniforms ect. The point wasn't to come on here with a "I know more than everyone else" line, but to reassure folks on the board who were unable to attend this function in person that these things have been seen with our own eyes. Several of these projects are massive undertakings that a ton of work has been put into by the Athletics Department staff, University stakeholders and major donors. I don't feel like it's right to come on a message board and steal the department's thunder of these announcements with specifics shared in confidence because they aren't happening on some of our fan's arbitrary "correct" timeline. They have a plan and rationale for how they're going to roll the information out publicly. TL:DR - I'm very confident in the direction the Athletics Department is moving in. Exciting times.

  40. popcorn dot gif Among four year starters in the last 10 seasons, Fine's stats were nearly average among freshmen QBs. Not a bad start, and he's historically got a good shot - at minimum - maintaining average. If he makes a jump from one year to the next, well that's gravy. In other words, Pearson and Shanbour have to perform better than average to beat him out. Are they?

  41. That UTEP game was the last game and their seniors played all out, while we didn't come close to matching that intensity. Hoping it's a learning moment for SL from his first year as a head coach. But those last games of seasons can be crazy. Our worst team in forever barely lost to UTEP to end the 2015 year, partly because UTEP didn't care at all and we let every spare QB play that day and it cost us a win.

  44. Them, UH, and Tulsa. It's a testament to Littrell's staff and their evaluations. We just need to keep some of these kids. Remember that Jeff Koonz worked for Skip Holtz at La Tech as a holdover from Sonny Dykes' staff.
