  1. DRC: Richland linebacker visited UNT long before the school's football staff started recruiting him http://beta.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2017/06/25/visit-unt-years-ago-helped-lead-richlands-nixon-commit-mean-green

  2. Can we limit the "can't recruit", "no offers" to threads other than the kids individual thread? I'm not even saying don't offer criticism (step too slow in film, great athlete in space doesn't take on the block well, good upper body mechanics needs work on foot work, etc). But we already know there's a group of people who object to the current level/method of recruiting and talent identification here. But at this point, it just bogs down the threads of kids who are happy to get an offer from us and be here. Again, there can be a place for this, but it's not constructive at this point and these players are coming here and excited to be here. It's turning into the boards new version of every thread being about RV.

  3. This list is a joke. Major Applewhite is 0-1 as a head coach. How can he be ranked above Frank Wilson, David Bailiff and Seth Littrell who have all led team to bowl games.

  6. The host was horrible and maybe we should give the NT guys a break because of it. It was a blow-away interview and I didn't expect any big revelations, but I just wanted a little more enthusiasm and pr work. I really thought Baker was way too quick to add another high layer to the department. I know NT is way behind most schools in the number of employees, but judging by the titles and current organization chart: I just wonder what all these people do on a day to day basis.

  7. This is a list of "Our ranking of our favorite teams in Texas when the Longhorns aren't good." Nothing more, nothing less. Move along, nothing to see here.

  8. Alright, just voted. Littrell is in 2nd. Let's make a repeat of when we had Mccarney way out in front of that one a couple years back.

  10. Just don't do it in the recruit's thread. You can do it in threads regarding the subject (which there have been some) or create one of your own. Also, to add on to this request, this also means don't go posting "I thought this staff couldn't recruit" in these same threads. Egging on the other side of the argument is asking for a rebuttal.

  11. Yeah, let's ignore reality. The problem will go away then. And I'm glad it's turning into an RV-ish issue. Is RV still here? We can't just ignore it, and there's no better place to freshen the idea into people's brains when the inevitable strikes time and time again. Hopefully we end up with a roster of prove people wrongers. At this point, we're gonna have to. But I'll tell you what, I'll create a thread for this and I will not personally comment the theme of this coaching staff into a kids thread.

  12. A lot of interesting stuff here. Interested in the takes of some of the others. The correlation seems to be less meaningful outside of the top 50 classes. The assumption of the author is that the amount of info on the recruits further back tends to taper off in accuracy and quantity leading to worse results.

  13. Nothing but a popularity contest. Patterson has earned his spot and Herman did a good job at Houston, but will he at UT. Kingsbury isn't number 5. He is a current day version of Dodge except he has college defensive coaches that can't stop the other team from scoring. Rhule was fantastic at Temple, but how will that translate to Baylor and Texas coaches. He may end up getting undermined by Baylor's issues. Sumlin is an enigma. Bailiff has done a good job at Rice over the years, but appears to be sliding backwards, rated too high. Littrell took a mess and turned it in to a bowl team. Still have room to improve and prove himself but appears headed in the right direction. Wilson also took his team to a bowl and appears to be a recruiting hotshot. Morris hasn't really done anything at SMU but took over a mess and appears to be slowly turning that program around. Will he stay? This year will tell a lot. Kugler one of UTEP's own. Just a tough road to hoe out in El Paso. Withers His first year was a mess. Applewhite Has yet to prove anything.

  29. UTA releases their OOC schedule today. Assuming the series is still on, it would be UTA's turn to host at College Park Center this year. With all of UNT's big transfers coming in and UTA's losing some of its best players due to graduation, could be a very good game.

  31. you could ask this of probably 90% of positions in any organization. I don't believe from a business standpoint, WB would bring on dead weight just to give his buddies a job. After all, the entire health of the AD falls on his shoulders. If he can't manage his department from a P&L standpoint, he won't be able to do it at a P5.

  32. A side benefit of this poll is it shows that NT fan 1. exist and 2. read and/or see the DMN and/or DRC and 3. will actually act on what they see. It won't make huge changes in reporting but if it happens often enough it will start to get noticed.

  33. Below is the number 1 2018 JUCO recruit in the country per 247, and the only 2018 JUCO recruit rated by 247 for the class. http://247sports.com/Player/Deshawn-Corprew-34316 He only has one offer. JUCOs in basketball typically don't start getting offered until the season starts and after. It's not like 2018 high school football recruits where they are at the point where offers are pretty much done coming out across the country until new game footage comes out. Also, Mccasland and his staff have shown solid recruiting ability in a short period here, and showed it at Arkansas State.

  37. To add some updates with the spreadsheet now that the roster has been updated: - Devlin Isadore and Devin O'Hara are both listed as being on scholarship but neither are. - Conversely, Quinn Shanbour is on scholarship. He is also a redshirt junior after receiving another year of eligibility. - Terrance Johnson and Julius Combes are both listed as being on scholarship but neither are. - William Lemasters is listed as being on scholarship but he is not. At least to my knowledge. - Kway Hill is no longer on the roster. I'm sure there are plenty of walkons no longer on the roster, and new ones we need to add, but I didn't go through them all. - Wylie Reinhardt had to give up football due to injury - Kel Straubmueller is listed as being on scholarship but I am not aware of when that move to put him on scholarship happened if it did. Does anyone know if/when that was announced? - The fall-enrollee signees have been added. This includes junior DB Kemon Hall who apparently will be a blueshirt, meaning he will be a scholarship player this season. - Grad transfer OL Riley Mayfield joins the team on scholarship as a redshirt junior - JUCO transfer OL Sosaia Mose joins the team on scholarship as a redshirt sophomore - We announced 16 high-school signees on signing day. One is already on the spreadsheet in early-enrollee Cade Pearson. The other 15 have been added as well. They are: DB Cameron Johnson DL Tony Krasniqi DL Dion Novil LB Kody Fulp LB Chris Thornton OL Jacob Brammer OL Manase Mose OL Dakoda Newman OL Brian Parish RB Evan Johnson RB Tre Siggers S Tyreke Davis S Makyle Sanders WR Jaelon Darden WR Greg White - Also, freshman DB Jordan Roberts and freshman OL Brendon Weatherspoon are both reportedly joining the team as blueshirts as well. So they should be listed as scholarship players as well. By my count we have 73 scholarship players this year. 18 of which are offensive linemen. That means 1/4 of our scholarship players are offensive linemen.

  38. @Ben Gooding The issue he is trying to point out is that Seth and company are fighting an uphill battle. Our (UNT) perception is still not well thought in the High School ranks. High School coaches have seen North Texas put "new coats of paint" on a crappy foundation for years and years. Wren, Seth, and company are finally working to repair the foundation of North Texas sports. As the saying goes, "Preception is Reality." It's not going to happen overnight. And yes, he does have a hard sell whether or not we want to admit it. That being said, his (Jaxon's) comments show that we need to get the word out to the High School coaches and "help" them understand via whatever medium necessary what is happening up in Denton. We need to shape their perception to our reality!

  40. The sad part is that, especially on a national news level, 99.9% of what you hear is opinion based. It would be nice to bring back Zombie Cronkite to read the news.

  41. Judging by how the courts ruled in the Penn St. case, and this new precedent, I would think those schools should give it a go. Even schools with "Indians", "Braves", "Tribe", etc... mascots likely could as well. "Redskins" though, to me, is a different animal altogether. It's a derogatory term. Seems like a word Andrew Jackson would use alot, alongside another particular word to describe black folks.

  42. Unless we are voting on which flag to display in front of your house (unless of course you are living inside of Apogee, in which case we would in fact be voting for a flag outside your house), I think most people are going to be able to make the connection that a giant green Texas flag is more than likely somehow associated with the football stadium and university.

  43. Let's see, off the top of my head. The NT Battle Flag was in Norman in 1987 when a future NT Great was born, Scott Davis. In '88 it was in Salt Lake for the NCAA's. Later that fall it was in Lubbotocks when we stole their game, their women and their tortillas. A week later it was at Memorial in Austin as we embarrassed the horns and their store bought officials. It was at every home game during our 6 week run as the #1 Ranked FCS team in the nation, and at a end of season drubbing of Rice in Houston. It was on the court during three straight attempted conference championship runs in basketball from '88-'90. It was there at Fouts the night of the bench clearing brawl and a 14-7 win over stiff-necked Forrest Gregg and the SMU lavenders in 1990. In 1991 it was used in the movie "Necessary Roughness", which was filmed on the campus it represents. It flew over the great Mitch Maher coached by Matt "We-Don't-Want-To-See-That" Simon and our Conference championship run in '94. It was there for our win over Oregon State, and two more wins over Texas Tech and Boise State in the late 90's. It was there for 4 straight conference championships and a bowl win. It was in Las Cruces for The Miracle In The Desert in '03. It was there in New Orleans and Ok City for two more trips to the NCAA's. And It was there the last two HOD Bowl games. Trust me when I say T sips and Aggies don't like it. This alone should be enough reason for it to gain your vote. ^^^Kyle Field ^^^ ...when it still had a track in it..1990. We lost on the score board that day but A&M knew they were in a fight when Aggie great and future NFL linebacker Quentin Coryatt got knocked the f out of the game. So if you didn't know, now you do. Rick

  44. Thank you Mr. Baker. I have been pushing for a large car dealership sized North Texas flag at the stadium since we first broke ground at Apogee. (Best solution: North Texas flag 6 days out of the week, with the Battle Flag on game day) I hope they also take my other suggestion and have a flag raising event at the start of the football season. It would be a great event where our athletes and students can come together and raise the flag together. Alums should also attend. It would serve as a fall semester kickoff type event. Maybe, conference title flags could be added as our teams win them throughout the year. Also, the flag should be lit by green spotlights at night.
