  1. I will never forget my junior year at UNT. We were in intermediate accounting together, and it was the week of the Alabama game. Our arrogant accounting professor from Minnesota was going on a rant about how bad the football team is and they were going to get destroyed by Alabama. Someone raised their hand and said, you do realize the starting QB is in your class. The professor's face turned bright red, and he was stumbling over his words. He did later apologize to Nathan, but it was hysterical to see the professor make an ass of himself in front of the class. That professor left UNT after that semester.

  4. Yes, that's about the only upside to this series! It is a beautiful region and history buffs will enjoy visiting nearby Appomattox and other Civil War sites.

  8. Andrew, I thought the same thing. Why keep putting Brice's picture next to the other guys? By now, I'm sure, Brett knows it is unlikely he is involved in any of the main crimes. Ridiculous

  9. Just saying but if we got Tune and Pearson is already here... with Izzy as well. Thats a pretty talented QB room. And I would be happy with any of those 3 starting for us.

  10. Ryan I'm not a big fan of Falwell, but you are about as negative as 90.I have no love for Falwell or Liberty, but why are you so butt hurt. Ben would you be upset if it was on CNN or BsNBC and would you not watch on FOX sports or take the money for appearing. As for tax loop holes I think all should be shut down because like the Clinton Foundation most are bogus.(or the administrative expense are outrageous)

  11. Brice is the by far the most well known of those involved in this case, although apparently all he did was get caught with marijuana while they were searching his apartment because of his roommate. I too, think it is unfair to use his picture with every reported development in the case. I do wonder why the prostitutes involved are listed as victims instead of criminals. Doesn't sound like they were forced into this. Maybe minors, but don't know why that couldn't be reported.

  14. Writing about it in an article, but still posting his mugshot next to the other guys defeats the purpose. He continues to be the face of this investigation, because he was the first person to turn himself in. Even though he's not part of the investigation. Remember a picture is worth a thousand words. They should limit his picture being associated with this and only address his involvement in the article. My opinion. If not, they will continue to do damage to him, beyond whats necessary. And, I'm not sure what you mean by saying they've gone out of their way. They are doing what reporters do. I don't think they are doing him a favor by stating the facts. That's the job.

  16. I find it difficult to accurately compare sports spending as a percent of a university's budget as many states fund athletics in ways that the state of Texas does not allow. On another note, if UNT is not making a much belated attempt to use athletics as a window to the university then count me fooled. We have spent money like Democrats in beefing up exective manpower in our Athletic Department and are paying coaches near the top of CUSA and above the MAC,SBC, and some MWC programs.Again, I don't know where Baker is getting the money, and am awaiting his published road map for success. However, from the outside looking in he appears to be his own man and makes decisions, such as scheduling, with a plan in mind. We just don't know what it is, so" wait and" see seems to be appropriate at this point in time.

  22. Thank you! I was aware that it was Tune's dog and it was lost, but I never understood the backstory as to why this story seemed to get so much fanfare, and why the dog was on the front page of GMG when I joined. Not saying losing a dog isn't a big deal, I just thought there may have been something a little more to it for the reasons I mentioned.

  27. I guarantee if we ever play in the bowl in Frisco that the teams will practice at the Star. It's almost certain at least one of the teams official team hotel will be the Omni at the Star. UNT isn't going to stay in Frisco then shuffle between Denton and Frisco just to practice at home.

  28. This is the type of loyalty and legacy story we need! We have good athletes whose siblings, and soon, children will be of college age with the skill to make a sports program. Large schools do this now, and we need to cultivate this practice. Keep it all in house!!!!

  29. And if he wants to, that's fine. It's the way the recruiting game is played. I assure you the coaches are also doing the same. He has every right to keep fishing, just like Littrell & Co kept fishing & cut bait with that committed Belton TE kid from last year's class.

  30. Why put Brices photos with these guys? To the best of our knowledge he had nothing to do with the prostitution ring. I feel really bad that his name is getting drug through the mud.

  31. Playing in any bowl games is good for recruiting. Local bowls are best for our local fans to attend. Once the IPF is built there will be absolutely no reason to have any kind of practices at The Star in Frisco.

  34. cannot have too many quality QB's on the roster. a QB is a single play way from his last play...as are all players of course. I want 2 or 3 QB's on scholly at any time that can step in and be "The Man"....next up as they say....

  36. It's a wonder Army is able to get anyone to play them :-(. EDIT: I got i!. Our OOC scheduling strategy should be to play whoever Army played the week before. They will be so unprepared for us, they won't know what hit 'em.

  38. Reading this thread makes me wonder if RV is back in charge of the AD office. I'm disappointed to lose two of the Army games but I can understand that they have their reasons. I wish Vito could have dug a little deeper and gotten more information, though. More likely by then CUSA will have split into different conferences.

  39. It's kind of the same idiocy that scheduling FCS teams besides the two who would bring fans to our games in SFA and SHSU. Instead, we schedule Rhode Island and Portland State...

  40. Was happy to see via the official NT site that NT beat Charlotte in the opening round of the CUSA conference tournament. Unfortunately my happiness ended soon, the score is reversed and NT lost 4-2. Does anybody check anything there or does NT need another high level hire to handle that? I hope it is corrected by the time they get around to writing about the game.

  41. Don't go crazy...nothing will ever be as dumb as that 1-AA fiasco. It killed generations of previous fans and potential fans during those years. We've never recovered from it... of course, scheduling Liberty for home and home is not really helping us, either...

  42. OOC games in the last 10 years of decrepit, toilet bowl Fouts, while we were in the Sun Belt: (bolded teams are power teams when we played them, green teams were FCS and not provisional teams moving up) 2001--TCU 2002--Nicholls State and South Florida 2003--Baylor 2004--Florida Atlantic 2005--Tulsa 2006--SMU and La Tech 2007--Navy 2008--Tulsa 2009--Ohio and Army 2010--Rice and Kansas State OOC games held at Apogee or will be held at Apogee since its opening in 2011 2011--Houston and Indiana 2012--Texas Southern 2013-- Idaho and Ball State 2014--SMU and Nicholls State 2015--Portland State 2016--SMU and Bethune-Cookman 2017-Lamar and Army 2018--SMU and Incarnate Word 2019--Abilene Christian and Army 2020--SMU and Houston Baptist 2021--Rhode Island and Liberty 2022--SMU 2023--Memphis 2024--SMU 2027--Texas Tech I have to go out to 2027 to HOPE we play as many power league teams in Denton at Apogee as we did for the last 10 years of the worst stadium in America hosted. Meanwhile, in the same time frame, we will have played 9 FCS teams at Apogee between 2011 and 2021, when we played exactly one in Nicholls State, while playing at Fouts as a member of the Suck Belt. Scheduling is the worst thing we do here as a program--and that is really saying something when you factor in the other huge issues we deal with or don't deal with as a program.

  46. You know, I've never been comfortable with "Happy Memorial Day". "Have a respectful Memorial Day?" "Have a reflective Memorial Day?" And speaking of reflective. The "freedom isn't free" phrase is much different (and probably very bitter) to people of color in this country, than it is to us who are white/Caucasian. How many people of color have gone off to war, made the same sacrifices, and came back to find that one of the freedoms they bought with their blood, sweat, and tears, was the freedom for the white/Caucasian community to continue to deny them their basic rights. Which included the right to at least be treated with dignity (Black veterans were still called the "N" word and "boy"). After the black veterans returned from WWI, some of them found that their service in that dehumanizing war bought them a lynching by their "appreciative" fellow free Americans. And while I'm at it, one of the groups that should be honored more than just about anyone is the Native Americans, especially the descendants of the Navajo code talkers. In light of how the great "land of the free" treating their ancestors, they had every right to tell the government to go screw themselves when they were asked to participate in the code talking program. Yet they did, and how many countless lives were saved as a result.
