it's really amazing how much teaching of technique that goes on in football. Blows me away.

5'8" 192 lb running back from Magnolia high school in Magnolia, Texas. It appears we offered two days ago, and are currently his only offer. He has committed. Rushed for 1,064 yards and 10 touchdowns. I'm thinking he may missed time/carries due to injury, as he had almost twice as many carries as a sophomore, rushing for over 1,400 yards. Probably didn't have minimal requirements for NCAA probably to do with transferring credits from another country. Unless Troy has changed they will sign anyone and just hope some of them qualify. Undersized at 6'8" 220+? He is big enough to play in the B12 or any other league. CUSA didn't have anybody over 6'8 on the first team all conference team. Question is he good enough.

Bottom line is, we have alot more play makers at the WR position than at any time I can remember. Big question is...since they are still unproven, can they fight for the ball and limit drops when the lights are on in Sept-November. We've always had a alot of balls hit the deck with our wide receivers. Even Brelan had his fair share of drops. Johnny is one guy I don't recall dropping the ball much.

I'm honestly surprised we haven't heard more lately from Mr Hair-Griffin in the slot. Seems like Duhon and Lawrence have just been playing better as of late

The gap between us and top-tier CUSA spending is about 1 million. Of note, the gap between the top 3 and the number 4/5 spots is 5-6 million. I would be interested to know how much ticket sales impact our budget: for example, what did we get from last year's attendance vs. what we would get if we averaged 10K/game. Additional thoughts, which I don't have time to research. Somewhat inspired by Tasty's message on the recent pod: What is the average budget at conferences with 1 bid? 2 bids? 3 bids, etc...? Grouping the conferences by assumed NCAA bid counts, how many schools have a budget that clearly prioritizes an attempt to get a bid? How many schools within the same conferences have a budget that clearly implies "we don't prioritize this compared to our peers"? Relative to the number of bids a conference may receive, can any observation be made about the percentage of schools attempting to get the bids?

Recent grad here. In the metroplex, UNT is the default. With all the school abbreviations it's easy: UNT, SMU, TCU, UTD... But when I go back to the east coast, North Texas has much more recognition; a lot of people know of someone who lives in or near DFW. I mean, I live in the next state over now, and nobody knows what the hell UNT is. Except for those salty Arkansas State fans...

What a great day it was! This was the seventh year this game has been played, and each and every year we have raised more scholarship funds than the last, but this year was special. Through our great sponsors, our players, our donors and our silent auction bidders and buyers, we raised over $10,000 for the first time ever! And, funds are still coming in! Yes, the white team won this year's game, but it was fairly competitive this year. At times I thought of renaming the game "roller derby basketball", but both teams survived with anyone getting hurt. Probably a few "sore guys" today, but smiling in their soreness knowing that they helped raise a record amount of scholarship money for these great student-athletes! I would be hard pressed to imagine seven years ago that this event could raise over $10,000, but it just shows what the Mean Green family can do when they come together with a positive goal in mind. Too many people to thank here, but to all our donors, sponsors, players, Cheer Team parents, Student Affairs team, Athletic Department team, Advancement folks and spectators I say "thank you....thank you so much" for making this event a success...AGAIN! You have shown a bunch of student-athletes and their parents that the Mean Green Nation is a caring and generous bunch. Thanks to all...stand by for bigger and better next year! Already working on it.

From his highlight video it is very apparent that he is comfortable with his back to the basket in the paint. A bit of an undersized 4 or 5, but strong. I think he could potentially be a factor, but may have struggled against the bigger bodies of the B12. Would be refreshing to have an option in the low block that you can dump it to and expect to score.

Where does this kid stand in comparison to other once-in-a-lifetime talents we have had? Tony Mitchell? Booger Kennedy? Justin "The Howitzer" Howerton Nathan Tune's dog?

Benford's staff represented a decent size bump in budget over the previous staff and the new staff salaries should be higher than Benford's staff. Even with increases, we are still pretty far behind some of the top budgets in our conference(over $1M behind the top budgets). Note: data is from 15-16 season.

160 out of 348 isn't too bad. We beat out some conference mates such as Marshall and UTSA. I would like to see that go up as we get some more wins, but we'll see what happens.

People who apply the "directional" tag apply it to any college that has a direction in its name, other than when that direction is the name of the state itself (e.g., North Carolina, South Carolina). The tag would apply to Southern Cal just as certainly as it would to North Texas--North Texas is not part of a bigger flagship system. It is a public university as opposed to a private, but that's a moot point. The tag has everything to do with the name and nothing to do with anything substantial. And the fact that it would apply to Southern Cal shows just how dumb, ill-informed, and useless the "directional" tag is. Did Southwest Texas State University somehow become a more legitimate university the day they dropped "Southwest" from their name?

I don't mean to quote your post individually, it's just one of many instances I've seen mention Southern Cal/USC. It isn't a directional school because it isn't some offshoot redheaded stepchild of a bigger flagship state run university system. It is its own privately run entity. There is no University of Northern California. If there were, its name is presently Stanford. As for locally, when I lived damn near across the street from that school, most locals just referred to it as "SC." Same goes for whoever mentioned "Southern Methodist." Not a directional school because not part of a larger state run institution. Now then, let's get to the important matters. If we're to start re-branding (AGAIN), can we start talking a new shade of green (AGAIN?) Nothing says consistently getting your name out there to the world like changing it every six months.

Life was easier when we were North Texas State. All the students use U.N.T., while most older alumni seem to go with North Texas. I don't like initials[U.C.F.,N.M.S.U.,M.T.S.T., B.F.F.,Etc.] The reality is that once you get away from our border states no one knows who we are anyway so I really don't wee what difference it makes. Of course, I would rather be "Eagles," but that ship has sailed.How about "U.N.T. Mean Green Eagles from North Texas located north of D.F.W.".

We have a Russian on the Tennis team and she is on the C-USA Commissioners academic Honor Roll She could probably Tutor him if needed.

USC is not called a directional school because that is a pejorative term reserved for schools not in the P5. The designation is used against a lot of schools and has absolutely nothing to do with academic performance because those using it have no idea what the academic performance of any of the schools actually is.

It'll be interesting to hear the thoughts of some of the younger alums on this matter. I don't understand how going exclusively with UNT somehow eliminates the "directional" issue, since one of the letters in UNT represents a direction. I don't ever hear anyone associated with Southern Methodist University being concerned about their name being too directional. Especially since their name is somewhat inaccurate, since Dallas is located more in the Southwest than in the South. Same for Southern Cal. They don't seem to worry about the generic direction in their name. In both of my examples neither of the schools have the letters of their school on their helmets, as well as not having their generic names. And now, the same goes for North Texas. We have the SOW. North Texas has always been what we've called ourselves......much like Southern Methodist, and Southern Cal. I don't see any advantage in changing it.

I just hope that everyone embraces English... The kid has done a great job in terms of helping recruit some kids, and honestly I think could be someone like Zac Orr here at UNT. Just hope he gets a huge cheer for that first sack, tackle, etc.

Glad this worked out. Always fun, in games like these, to have friends playing together. He'll also meet some other great guys. It is shaping up to be a fun game. Everyone...don't forget that after the game we will adjourn to Eastside Social Club for an after game "gathering" and an adult beverage or two perhaps! All welcome at the after game party.
