  1. I wish the season started tomorrow. I'm ready for the healing process to begin.

  3. I used to think this way too until I actually stepped foot in a college indoor facility in August. A lot of em ain't cool and comfy even with exhaust the fans goin'. But that's also not the point. Schools with indoor facilities still also use their outdoor practice fields to do stuff like acclimatize to extreme heat, and conversely to extreme cold. Reasons to have an indoor facility in a place like Denton: 1. Provides a weather-is-not-a-factor practice area for multiple sports. It rains a lot in Denton, and lightnings and hails, and vicious wind. If the weather is crap and everybody is miserable, they don't practice well, they just wanna get it the hell over with and go home. This solves that situation and yes we've all seen what a difference one good or bad practice in a week can mean for Saturday. Soccer and softball can also use the place in those situations. Also, Green Brigade could potentially practice there in garbage weather. 2. If said crappy weather mucks up the practice field, you don't have to continue tearing it up or go tear up the competition turf in the stadium. You don't want to throw a tackling sled on the nice expensive turf in Apogee if the Dickey fields are muddy AF. 3. Provides a cheaper option for practicing later in the season when it gets dark at 5pm. Instead of using the Apogee and turning on the big field lights, you can use the indoor which isn't gonna spin the meter as fast. 4. It's just one more tool to use to try and convince a fickle-minded 18 year-old high school jock to come to UNT. It's a player ego-booster and a fan/alum/donor ego-booster. 5. In the future, once Jerry Jones dies (providing he doesn't find a way to become a cyborg) and the NFL collectively forgets the complete disaster that was the prep and execution for Super Bowl XLV and decides to gift AT&T Stadium with another Super Bowl, then UNT with it's D1 indoor facility can host the practices for one of the teams instead of freaking Highland Park HS. Same for big time soccer or any other number of things.

  5. Have they said what they're going to call it? Maybe the Dan McCarney Practice Turf that sits inside the Todd Dodge Indoor Practice Facility which rest atop the former Darrell Dickey Practice Fields?

  6. I know this is off the radar for most here, but fellow CUSA mate UTEP is losing it's WBBall coach to Wichita State after 16 years. She won 4 conference titles. Had several very exciting post-seasons, including one run to the WNIT final Every single one of her student-athletes during her tenure graduated. I think that is remarkable. http://www.utepathletics.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/032917aaa.html

  8. I just hope that everyone embraces English... The kid has done a great job in terms of helping recruit some kids, and honestly I think could be someone like Zac Orr here at UNT. Just hope he gets a huge cheer for that first sack, tackle, etc.

  11. @Brett Vito So help me... if this article gets UNT in some hot NCAA water, I'm coming to rob every parking pass you ever thought you had. You wont even be able to park in your own driveway when I'm done with you.

  13. Dickey's Spring practices were held in the dead of night under the cover of darkness in the catacombs beneath the Super Pit. Members of coaching staffs would be cloaked, assigned a code name of 32 random characters, blindfolded, and led through a series of tunnels to the Matt Simon Viewing Facility. Here they would be sequestered into individual viewing rooms. For every golden Rod Rust coin they put into the slot, they could watch 15 minutes of Spring practice. Stealth Spring Practices.

Dad appears to be president of professional club in Kasakhstan: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BC_Astana Mom is Victoria and played for kazakhstan. Has a cousin, Ksenia Tikhonenko, who is a serious talent on the Russian women's hoop scene.

  20. EDIT: Would help to add his 24/7 profile: http://247sports.com/Recruitment/Mark-Tikhonenko-98997/RecruitInterests According to his 24/7 profile, he has an IASt offer! IASt basketball is no joke. If that is a legit offer, and he chose to commit to ARSt over it... and then switch to UNT when McCasland & Co came over, then I believe it speaks volumes about this coaching staff's relationship-building (re: recruiting) abilities, and I'm now very excited about the future.

  21. Don't forget Young. He has been a mainstay on our DL and should benefit from the move to the outside.

  22. When you only complete 6 TDs passing with 5 interceptions in 261 attempts you can't be expected to rank very high nationally. Even Morris threw for 9 TDs with 76 less attempts. We can blame the offensive line or receivers but Morris was less mobile and still managed to be more productive with the same line and receivers. Fine needs to make quicker decisions to avoid sacks. His accuracy is fine but one TD per 40+ throws is not good for a passing team. Hopefully, an improved offensive line, improved receivers, and experience will move Fine much higher on the list this year.

  23. Never though I would hear someone concerned that NT paid too much for a coach. Frankly, I didn't get the point that compensation should be tied somehow to the fact that CUSA is a one bid NCAA conference. That is like believing that the football coaches compensation should be tied to the likelihood of getting into the playoff series. The sad fact is that the NT salary is high only compared to CUSA at this point in time. Two years down the road it probably won't be. I can only hope that NT gets good enough that rpi's mean something. Setting at a rpi of 338, I am not worrying about NT suffering because of conference affiliation.

  27. I just find it funny to call Dixon a "star on the rise", since he won National Coach of the Year before. I'd say that's already a risen star by nearly all measures. He definitely has TCU on the rise though.

  29. They are calling this year's game a "scrimmage" again. So once again, it won't be a "game." I'd like to see it in the game format, but I'm okay with this. I'll still be there.

  30. There are coaches who will go after the big name for sure. I just pray that every school has a guy like my school does who wants the best FIT for the kid. Shoot he's the only one who has to spend 5 years there.

  33. He certainly was in High School, but playing against 2-A players helped a lot with that. He did eventually prove to be almost superman in college. But it wasn't automatic in the beginning. I saw him play against North Texas his freshman year in 1979. He was sharing RB duties with Dallas Carter's Charles Waggoner (#26 on your program), and Waggoner was getting most of the reps in that game. I remember reading at the time that Waggoner got the nod because, having played at Dallas Carter, he was better prepared (physically and mentally), because of his experience against 4-A (now 6-A) competition. I remember thinking that Waggoner looked to be about a step faster than Dickerson. Waggoner got hurt (neck injury) later in the year returning a kick-off. He finished his career at SMU running track. Had Waggoner not gotten hurt, who knows if Dickerson would have ever surpassed him......or if Waggoner would have hit the wall in his development and Dickerson would have passed him up anyway. Here's an article about Waggoner. http://www.dallassouthnews.org/2010/04/05/disd-legends-series-charles-waggoner-part-i/ Another one of those "what if's"............that I wish would've gone Waggoners way. I really hate Eric Dickerson. .

  34. Yes. Thanks. "There are two people helping out -- graduate assistant Herschel Sims and former Cowboys running back Tashard Choice. Sims is handling the on-field coaching. Choice is a volunteer and is not handling any on-field coaching duties. He is more of a mentor for UNT's backs."

Sims is a volunteer and is not handling any on-field coaching duties. He is more of a mentor for UNT's backs. ... Did you mean to say that Choice is a volunteer and not handling any on field duties? I am guessing the AD must have touched based to clear up any potential NCAA violations that might have been inferred from the prior article. Since Choice is not a coach or GA he is limited in what he actually do.

  37. Funny how people bitch about not committing to sports. We start committing to sports and people bitch. I think we can all agree that a lot of things are not absolutely necessary when it comes to sports (and other things), but we spend for fear of losing ground with our peers (or desired peers).
