I was getting participation trophies for youth football in 1972. Generational stereotyping is silly.6 points

Why would a beat reporter have a biased opinion of a backup qb that has never seen live action? That doesn't make any sense. Vito's opinion does not matter to the coaches. They will play who they think is best, not who Vito thinks is best. I appreciate his coverage, both in his articles and his blogs.6 points

Even though it'll be streamed online I'm excited about this. Says they're getting some of the old DJ's back together and will play a '73 to '89 play list. http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2017/03/24/ready-zoo-freak-dallas-best-rock-station-returns-28-years-plug-pulled Rick3 points

Because of our busy school and softball schedules, my daughter and I don't get to make it out for many games. But we had an off weekend and took advantage of it on Sunday. Great to see the ladies sweep UTSA. Small ball, long ball, good pitching, sound defense, great crowd...and with a TON of youth on the field.3 points

Unfortunately, this problem of biased reporting is a nationwide epidemic.3 points

It seems like he got something against Shanbour, but the guy hasn't got on the field under two coaches and less than stellar talent at the position. I'm not sure he should mention him at all.3 points

This is symptomatic of the schools in the mid-majors who cultivate a talent and then that talent flies away to greener pastures. So, we become a farm team for the majors without even a thank you from the big boys.2 points

He got one additional year. And how do you think more money became available for the assistant coaching pool? The McCarney extension was after year 3, and he signed another 5 year deal. That's 3 additional years. Quite a difference. He turned the team around to the tune of 4 wins. Do I think he'll do it again and win 9 games this year? No. Should the standards be higher than another 5-7 year, or even 6-6? Absolutely.2 points

Shanbour will move down on the depth chart once Izzy heals. NT has had some of the worst QB play in the nation in previous years and Shanbour hasn't been able to earn any playing time....2 points

I suggest 2 possibilities: (1.) Brett remembered how well our quarterbacks' practice performance has predicted future success. (2.) He advocates the concept of "there is no bad publicity".2 points

Maybe I'm short-sighted but I look at breakout as producing far more than you produced the previous season. Since Nic Smith was red-shirted last year the only thing that he learned was the offense. So that whatever he produces this year will be far above zero. Frankly, I expect him to produce more than Ivery produced last year and depending on how much he gets used, perhaps even close to Jeff Wilson. While there is no question about Wilson's ability, there are questions about his durability. My wish is that both get used at the same time; swapping running back and h-back slots without the opposition knowing who is the hot back so that they cannot key on just the running back. Now if I'm right on the "breakout" definition the next two will be Jalen Guyton and Bryce English. I expect Guyton to be the top receiver and English to be the top defensive lineman and since neither played last year let's hope that their stats will be better than those of last year.2 points

http://www.hudl.com/video/3/1041531/5817bd22bd7520234452bce7 https://twitter.com/Big6_Chop He just tweeted we offered, and he has in his bio that he is committed to UNT but no tweet about committing from what I can see. Looks like this was a Koontz since he is the only one the staff following the kid. Also, can not find a 24/7 bio for him. But looks like he is will be completing his Sophomore year Also measures in at 5'11 180.1 point

There was some opinion floating around that we did not have a consistent threat to do so. I'm seeing a lot of new names come up in the reports. I'm cautiously optimistic that someone will emerge. I also think I read in Vito's reports that the QBs are getting better about connecting on 20+ yards out.1 point

The 1-win season directly preceded Littrell's first year. And Littrell has only coached 1 season. This is all we have to go on. It's easy to look back on McCarney's time here as a roller coaster. We don't have any kind of idea what Littrell's tenure has in store, but he appears to be poised for a rise. After going 5-7 this year, a step back to 4-8 would be unacceptable... even if an 8-4 season followed. I don't think anyone here wants to repeat history. Also, recall, McCarney's first 5-7 year was on the shoulders of the greatest running back UNT has ever seen (Sorry Mr. Cobbs & Mr. Haynes).1 point

Love the inroads to the Midway program. That has been a very successful program out of the CenTex region for the last few years. http://www.scout.com/player/214094-daizion-carrol http://247sports.com/Player/Daizion-Carroll-460401061 point

So he's looking for a college with over 7,000 students ? I think my Biology lecture class in 1969 had about 7,000 seats. I was told once that Rice Stadium could hold every student that had ever registered for a class at Rice.1 point

I think it's safe to say none of us perfectly picked the Final Four of UNC, Oregon, Gonzaga, and South Carolina, although two of those are one seeds. I've heard a lot of complaints about how boring the games will be since Kentucky, Duke, and Kansas won't be there. I say I can't wait. Now that those three are gone, I can be satisfied with whoever wins the national championship. I'd like to see Gonzaga or South Carolina win it all, since it'd be their first titles, followed by Oregon (first Final Four appearance since 1939 title) and UNC. Can't wait to see the Mean Green back in the NCAA Tourney some day, though.1 point

Guys, I am happy that we have the funds to give assistants pay raises and head coach a new contract after a 4 & 8 record against 1A opponents. However, it appears the bar is set pretty low for results if you are financially rewarded after your first season for losing 2/3's of your games.Just saying.1 point

Tip your cap to Bakersfield. They are not a terribly physical team but are very tall, extremely quick and play good defense. Everytime we touched the ball, we were double-teamed. Our normally freeflowing offense couldn't get the transition game going, which is where we generate most of our offense. This is the first time I've actually seen the team look a little intimidated or frustrated. They shot lights-out from three in the first half and our usually-mediocre outside shooting finally returned to normal and we were down 16 in the first half. We made a nice comeback at the end but it really wasn't that close most of the game. Just got outplayed by a team that is playing very good ball right now. 27 wins for us sets a season record but we are gonna lose some serious talent due to graduation...next year will be interesting to see where the offense comes from.1 point

There is a big difference between losing and being a loser. I think Walz lost sight of that in his rant. At some point in our lives, we have all lost at something. yet, I doubt many of you consider yourselves to be losers. The only losers are those who will not even try. If you fail to put out your best effort, you are a loser. If the other person or team is simply better than you or your tea,, the loss does not make you a loser.1 point

This is mine too. When I was in high school DeSoto was still in our district and he torched South Garland in every way possible. I believe he had two special team td's and over 150 on the ground. Hands down the best hs rb I've seen in person.1 point
