  1. When a coach is fired, it always seems that the opposite is the way everyone wants to go. Benford was a long time assistant with a specialty in recruiting with no HC experience. So now the search will probably be for candidates with hc experience and a good x and o's knowledge. Fraschilla really said nothing noteworthy in this interview, seems to thinks NT is a good place for a relative newcomer. I don't think that is what Baker is looking for. I suspect Baker will go for a safe hire, meaning someone who is currently coaching with a good history. I don't see Baker picking a coach with a questionable background, one with no hc experience, or a reach of any kind.

  3. What we might take seriously is that we were not mentioned but UTSA and Tx. St. were, which is why they kicked our butts in recruiting.

  8. A very nice guy despite being a terrible head coach, I wish him the best. But we're not coaching cupcakes here. I want to win. P.S. Thanks for getting us Woolridge and Lawson, though. A good coach who can develop players and fewer injuries and we might compete in the conference next year.

  10. If you look at ESPN as a whole with all their programs they really do suck. They have 4 major sports for the majority of viewers NBA, NFL, P5 BB and football. As like a lot of leagues we need to start selling out our own stadiums!

  14. I got enough undisciplined street ball when JJ was here, thank you very much. Plus, if we're ever up 2 and need to intentionally foul the other team late to preserve the win, how do we know our coach can keep the opponent from side-stepping the defenders hands and dunking 26 ft. from a standstill? Give me the fundamentals of Double Dribble if we're going down this ridiculous path.

  15. I agree with Harry. Good man, good character, and a good eye for talent. His downfall was how he directed that talent from buzzer to buzzer, IMO. I sincerely wish him good luck in the future.

  16. His current term just started and runs through end of 2018. By then he will be 68 and perhaps ready to stop making those trips to D.C. Can we wait until then to replace Lee Jackson? A bit of coincidence: Lee Jackson was my state rep through mid 80's and Burgess is (like a lot of us) my current Congressman. (If you saw him that Saturday night, we were at same event.)

  24. Meh, not a big deal, imo. He fired Benford at season's end. The team struggled his entire tenure and we all knew the ship already sank. Firing him mideason wouldn't accomplish a whole helluva a lot. The staff had to have known their jobs were numbered as well. One of them would've had to take over the dumpster fire. How enticing is that? The right thing to do was fire him after year 3. That's where the AD failed miserably.

  27. Going to be difficult for him to pack 4 suits for a conference tourney. Shoes alone will put his bag over the weight limit. The last time he was relevant to recruits was when they were 2-4 years old.

  30. Well, too bad. UNT did this, not me. They could have fired Benford after year 1, 2, 3, 4, or during year 5 and kept my basketball fandom. THEY didn't and they lost it forever because of what THEY did. Do they care? No, because they have never cared about the fans of this program and proved it to me personally in spades this basketball season. THEY were perfectly willing to let this program go winless in conference. That was THEIR decision. Mine is to walk the F away. I like college basketball, and TCU is convenient, so tickets just make sense. Plus I get a HUGE upgrade in the level of basketball for $130 more a season. Not too shabby. Look, your a young fan who will at some time reach the point I'm at, that is if you care about winning. A lot of people have walked away throughout the years. People on here want to blame the fan. It isn't the fans' fault. They have been driven away by terrible administrative decisions. You think improvements are right around the corner. I don't have that faith anymore because I've seen about 4 "right around the corners" in my 9 years of re-association with this thing. And just realize that you and most of the others that criticize me on here haven't dumped near the amount of money into this disaster as I have. Doesn't make you less of a fan, but by definition it makes you less invested. Loving something unconditionally that you have no financial commitment to isnt hard. Remember that next time you want to criticize where I spend MY money/

  31. I found it interesting the Royce West credited Jackson with "doing what is best for Dallas and all of North Texas." Notice how Dallas is placed in front of North Texas in that sentence? Great description of Jackson's tenure here. I also noticed that the Chancellor's office is located in Dallas. Nothing says out of touch like an office located a county away from the flagship campus of the system... And he is the grandfather of the NTTA? The government hand that is perpetually reaching in citizens' pockets? Another reason to dislike the man.

  32. No major moves ... except replacing the ENTIRE leadership of the AD office with his own hires. Keeping a guy who wanted his job ... Or perhaps he has the internal confidence and support of the administration to handle that "guy" and perhaps that "guy" is also mature enough to still do his job and work well for his new boss. Letting Benford coach out the season ... he plainly stated several good reasons for doing so which is really self evident. Even if you disagree with that you have to agree that Baker has a much more experience in leading an AD office and making decisions like this than you. He's also much closer to the situation than anyone on this board. Plus, if rumors are correct it seems he's been working on Benford's replacement for awhile. Because, so far, we have seen nothing else from him - additional support staff added Zero. Track/soccer field. Zip. IPF Zilch. From most reports the Ticket Office is functioning much better. Plus from reports recruits visiting practice are being handled much better.

  33. I bash the new AD for lack of action. There have been zero major moves made since his arrival. He chose not to rock the boat by keeping around a guy that openly and aggressively campaigned for his job. He chose not to rock the boat by letting Benford coach out the season. This is concerning that he will ALWAYS choose not to rock the boat. Because, so far, we have seen nothing else from him. Zero. Zip. Zilch. That deserves criticism. If you don't want to end up with RVII, that is. Remember: It is North Texas...

  35. A great 30/30 about UNT would be something titled along the lines of "Killing A Program: UNT Basketball's Demise and the Culture Behind It." Of course, it would need to be at least a 2 parter.

  36. ??????? So your stated goal for UNT basketball is .500 or VERY slightly above?
    1 point
  37. That may be the single most unfair statement you have ever made. I haven't been in the LR and neither have you, we have no idea what type of mentality Littrell and Co., are instilling. From what I have heard out of every interview from player or coaches, they weren't satisfied with the result of bowl loss, wanted to get in through wins and not by APR, although they were thankful. Most times they reference the goal being conference championships. They seem to be working toward that, by winning 5 games and losing 3 because an NFL level player beat them. I think we should have beat UTEP, but when a CUSA team has an NFL level player on them you get results. See UNT last HOD bowl, La Tech, WKU, and UTEP this year. NFL talent tends to win out vs inferior talent, it can be beat but you must execute and have little to no mistakes by an entire unit.

  38. They have a lot of advantages on their side that we don't. They have no history of apathetic losing. They don't share a market with anyone else. The SA media likes covering them. And Power 5 teams want to play there. We don't have any of that.

  39. So it's gone from 3 out of 5 to 4 out of 5 now? Did they add an injured starter this 3rd day after the season was over? Look, The SMU kid wasn't a starter. Never was a starter here. Just because you wanted him to be a starter doesn't mean that he was. I also have my doubts about him leaving the program because of his knee. Really weird circumstances led to his departure. Combs was a big loss. Deckie wasn't. He was actually replaced by an all-conference freshman. Who was this third starter lost again? That should be pretty telling.
    1 point
  40. No, he waited until 40 some odd days were left on a contract. He made the easiest, safest play possible by doing it right after the season ended. That's not holding someone accountable l, that's just tidying up the books on a person's account.

  41. Funny that you used these exact same excuses, isn't it. Did Baker send those to you? Lol. You don't care about winning. And I'm going to need to see that post FROM 5 YEARS AGO before I believe you ever said anything that wasn't an echo of the UNT AD.
