  1. Just a few of the badass things I got for my man cave (That does not exist yet). My buddy got some for me at Surplus. Others I got there. Pretty sure I never shared till now...

  2. While it bothers me emotionally to lose so many games, it bothers me more intellectually that we have a department at UNT that is so poorly mismanaged. Im not sure Wren fully comprehends the frustration of the fan base extends beyond wins and losses.

  3. Should we open a new forum called "UTSA Football Recruiting" to track their progress? Signing day is a little over 51 weeks away. Let's worry about what we are doing before we start tracking their every move. I heard a good one the other day. It states, "If the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, then water your damn lawn!" Let's work on watering our yard before we starting envying the neighbors.

  4. I just met Coach Littrell and Mainord at Market Street in Flower Mound. They were very down to earth. I told them congrats on the great year, and I renewed my tickets this week. We talked about this year's class and Beyond the Green for a minute as well. Littrell mentioned that next year should be even more exciting.

  5. I am so bummed about UNT right now. I get psyched up and huddle in front of the TV to watch BYU of the West Coast Conference and Long Beach State vs UC Irvine Big West Basketball and don't even follow my alma mater after football. So many emotions about this program right now: 1. I feel like Football is on the right track, but I see San Antonio making amazing waves. So is our football on track and if so will it even be enough to beat the likes of UTSA, La Tech and FAU in the future. 2. Is Wren Baker Rick Villareal? I don't want to believe so but I don't see the drain the swamp energy I was hoping for - How on earth does Benford still have a job. How can he touch my great University and be allowed to bludgeon my degree week by week on his way out. 3. My Running Rebels suck, everything North Texas stinks right now in February. I root on the Cougars of BYU while wondering what happened to my Great University and do they even have a plan. Rick didn't. Wren doesn't seem to. This upside down state of Mean Green Athletics has just taken its toll. Nevertheless. GMG P.S. - I don't want and am not asking for cheerleaders in Green and White. I am looking for fearless decision makers, expert communicators and highly visible actions makers. None of these people except maybe SL seem to be present in Denton right now. Example, I met a rep from the Texas Legends who has communicated with me often over the past 10 days, got me out to a Texas Legends games and has me signed up for 2 networking events to get involved. Has anything ever moved that fast in Denton without a 66-7 drubbing and worst loss in college football embarrassment drumming before? It should be happening every single day to our completely lost thousands of alumni. I even have trouble encouraging my niece to attend UNT because she wants a cool college experience, which as an athlete includes connection to and involvement of athletics even from a spectator perspective. That's crazy and definitely a first in my 31 years of being a brand ambassador for this University.

  7. I'm not completely sold on former players with zero coaching experience just because of their successful playing careers and ties to the school. I see it all the time in the arts: people with incredible talent/ability will sometimes relate less as much to those around them, and do not know how to coach them up. I'm not saying it can't work, but I think zero coaching experience is a big red flag and a risk we need to think about.

  8. No he's saying we should be hiring Everett Withers to be our offensive line coach. You need to get out of your small ambition line of thinking.

  10. Interesting. Hate to harp on this, but maybe if our recruiting budget was 2nd in the conference, we'd see the fruits of our relatively highly ranked assistant coaching pool budget.

  12. I have stated my support for JJ in other threads. The man can coach. He left us in great shape to pursue his dream job at his alma mater...I cannot fault him. Now he is a little longer in the tooth but he could still be very effective. To quote Tasty, "I'm not saying we should rehire him, but we don't need to shit on the run of success we had under him. Because odds are, I'm going to die before we ever see another run like what he gave us."

  15. Debating whether we are 12th or 10th is like 2 bald men fighting over a comb. It is still unacceptable. Bye the bye, where are the Oklahoma recruits?

  17. The biggest difference I see right now is that I've heard virtually nothing from Wren Baker since he arrived. We're used to having a showman at the helm who was always front and center with a mic in his hand. Wren appears to prefer working behind the scenes. This can be either a good thing or a bad thing. I really don't know yet.

  18. If he's interested, it's a no-brainer WB interview him. There may be other coaches interested, and I'm betting WB may know some b-ball coaches from his time at Memphis & Mizzou. Should be plenty of good options for him, and if JJ is one of those options, I'll be excited to see him if he returns.

  22. I'm not saying North Texas and JJ are necessarily the best fit for one another this time around, but I'm a little confused by the assumption that we will do better with an unknown. Sure, it's possible--just like it's possible that football recruiting services completely misrated CUSA classes and ours is actually the best. Consider our history of hiring head coaches in the major sports and think about what percentage of them performed better than JJ when he was here. We are just as likely (if not more) to hire another Benford as we are to end up with someone better than JJ.

  23. I view offering this far in advance as a marketing move, which is great. Build relationships with the schools and have the offering's share it all on social media! The more the better! GMG

  26. Keep in mind that's a fan recruiting Twitter account. They do good work, but not associated with North Texas athletics. From my understanding, Raveon was not academically eligible after being signed as a late qualifier and any part on the team would be as a walk-on, if SL & co. want to go in that direction. He has always maintained on Twitter that he wants to play for us, but the coaches haven't mentioned it other than last summer when asked SL said he won't be playing for us after failing to qualify academically. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2016/08/breaking-news-raveon-hoston-will-not-play-for-unt.html/

  28. We have the school, location, facilities and coaching what is going on with recruiting? MAC'S MESS of a legacy SCHOLARSHIPS ... limited...per 247(as a baseline) 2014 24 commits, 5-3 stars, 20% of class 2015 22 commits, 8-3 stars, 33% of class 2016 22 commits, 5-3 stars, 22% of class 2017 18 commits, 5-3 stars, 27% of class... Texas State 2017, 24 commits or 25% larger than UNT UTSA 2017, 26 commits or 31% larger The scholarship mess is not only a huge hindrance, but it also effects strategy. As Seth stated they had planned to only take one RB this class. Then Tre popped up. Would like to see how this class would of been rated with the full 25 commits with additional 2-3 stars, and 5-2 stars ( this is based off the 27%) @BillySee58 RELATIONSHIPS...With local schools almost non existent This is going to take time and effort. I believe the 2018 offers are more publicity and marketing than anything else, and that is great. A kid gets his first offer and he tweets it, puts it on Facebook and talks about it with others as does his family and friends. This will make 1000's aware of UNT. The 5 offers we made to the Florida school was probably the talk of the school! Zeke had 100,000 twitter followers in high school! Give kids content for their Social Media and they will spread it! SPLASH We can continue to work hard and develop HS relationships, but I would like to see a JUMP START! INDOOR PRACTICE FACILITY, most schools we compete with don't have one. Not the total answer, but a big time help. This staff is dealing with a lot of inherited issues that will make it tougher to get to the promise land. One thing I really admire about the coaching staff is NO EXCUSES! GMG

  33. Too much street ball/not enough full court press in this response. Perhaps the better question...why would he want to come back? He built a quality program from absolute crap only to see it burned to the damn ground and his work go constantly under-appreciated from a delusionally entitled fan base.

  34. There's strength and security in numbers. Like Nick Saban, offer every kid there is and then it becomes a numbers game come signing day. Keep the one's you want and discard the rest.

  37. Spin or no spin, Todd Dodge's first UNT class had 15 "3" star recruits & no winning season from that group. Yes, we'd all like as many star'd recruits as possible, but that still does not always guarantee a winner. Most of North Texas best thru the years were most likely 2 star recruits "coached up." They just didn't have enough surrounding them to give us decades of winning teams.

  40. Y'all, Coach Davis was a fantastic coach. This hurts bad. Hopefully Littrell has someone in mind that can step right in and coach to his system like coach Davis, who's known him since their days playing together at OU. Best of luck to coach Davis... I would honestly rather lose ANY OTHER position coach besides him.

  43. Davis was making 150k. i think we should shell out that much for his replacement and also increase the pay for our DCs. No reason why Graham Harrell should be making more than Reffett and Ekeler. I also do not believe that any of our coaches should be making under 100k at this point... except for maybe the recruiting coordinator. I hate to lose brad Davis. He seemed like he was a great coach and our oline may have actually over achieved last year believe it or not.

  44. Well, that's a good sign when solid P5 schools want to hire away your coaches. Hate to lose him, but wish him well.

  45. I'd love to agree with you @KRAM1, but the last time I pumped up the athletics to the general public and alums I was rewarded with Tony Benford for FIVE full seasons. I've lost faith that "this time will be different!" I suspect you will never lose that faith, and I admire you for it. I'm a far more cynical person and I'm not seeing any actual change.

  46. Consequences for what? Being lowly rated after 1-11 and 5-8 seasons? Getting blown out 66-7 last year by FCS, since you love to bring that up so much? If you start firing everyone when they don't immediately go full superhero you end up like the Browns.
