We were head to head with Tulsa for this kid. Not a lot of offers, but that's a solid win in my book. Also had offers from Army and Bowling Green.20 points

People make fun of us because we're bad. I'd hope after fifteen years of crap marketing we throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Doesn't caawws me any problems.12 points

Offer from Army means he has good grades. Offer from Tulsa confirms he can play. Choosing UNT over all those other schools tells me he is a wise young man. Go Mean Green!12 points

I'd make a list of all the dumb rituals in sports but i don't have a month it would take to compile the complete list. Starting with grown adults wearing cheese on their heads. It's a billboard with a mildly funny pun on it. I'll take it over some corporate slogan we paid some consultant 25k to come up with.5 points

No. Last years record was f'ing embarrassing. Benford's tenure at UNT is f'ing embarrassing. Our Endowment is f'ing embarrassing. We complain when we don't market and we complain when we do.5 points

COOL there is a billboard bowl game announcement with UNT! I take that any day!5 points

Just my opinion. I think if he doesn't get hurt week 3 this year we don't have a chance at him. I think he would prolly be going p5 Just my opinion. I think if he doesn't get hurt week 3 this year we don't have a chance at him. I think he would prolly be going p55 points

Wouldnt be suprised if he did. He's still fairly mobile behind our line but is bigger than Fine. If anything he will provide a lot better competition for Fine and Pearson the next two years. The QB position should be much better all around next year5 points

Arkansas calls pigs because a razorback is a pig. Washington is the Huskies, a dog...that barks An Eagle, while it is a bird like a crow, is a DISTINCT and DIFFERENT bird. If being a bird is the only qualifier then I suggest we scream "bawk bawk bawk" like chickens after touchdowns. Or maybe we could just "coo" like doves to be less aggressive. Hell, let's just mimic the announcer every time he speaks like a parrot. The "caw" BS was the result of silly (probably drunk) students trying to be smart asses. If that's the only prerequisite for NT traditions then I'll bring the white button downs, cowboy hats and bottles of bourbon to the bowl game...we can all do push ups after we score4 points
-
How about we DON'T spell out the sound an eagle makes? How about we just, you know, come up with another idea? Maybe one that isn't terrible. Because some s**t like, "hreeeeeeeh!" would also look dumb in marketing. Caw is the sound a crow makes.4 points

I wouldn't call 5-7 "winning," although I would call it working some magic. Coaching isn't recruiting. You have to do both at the college level. Still a ways to February 1, but concern is warranted. I'd love for him to recruit like TCU, but that hasn't happened so far with this class.4 points
-
Of course I'm serious. One of the most important jobs of assistant coaches is recruiting. It is the lifeblood that allows a program success. Fail there, and you fail on the field. If you can't recruit to UNT, you don't need to be coaching at UNT.4 points

You don't want 4 star recruits? Of course, more than one would be huge for a team in this conference...4 points

And UT has a cow with BEVO written on it standing on the sidelines. Means absolutely nothing but throw a backstory on it and it becomes a source of pride. I'm just saying whatever works, works. Logical and cool shouldn't be the standard.3 points

http://www.cleburnetimesreview.com/sports/cleburne-s-tre-von-bradley-commits-to-unt/article_fb786374-c268-11e6-a7ce-47e5c9761586.html Here's a little write-up from the local paper. I've picked my favorite recruiting insight: Bradley said he chose UNT for a few reasons; “The love that their coaching staff showed me, the position I’d be playing, and the location,” Bradley said. The article says they want him to be an inside/slot receiver. Which is what I think a lot of people expected. Cool to see they were very specific with there vision, which helped him feel comfortable choosing us.3 points

Late bloomer. First year at QB was this year. First opportunity to show what he could do with the ball in his hands every play (was WR as a junior). His value as a kick and punt returner at the next level is reason enough for a scholarship offer, IMO.3 points

Because he plays for Cleburne and he hasn't been offered by high-profile enough schools to motivate the guys who actually rank recruits to pop in the film and give an evaluation. And his coaches/whoever is helping him with recruiting haven't bothered to notify the recruiting sites. Again, another reason why offer lists are a better metric for evaluating our recruits. If a player isn't offered and being strongly considered by the schools whose fanbases pay good subscription money to those sites, where's the motivation to watch the film and give an evaluation/rating? Which often results in nonexistent ratings and half-assed ratings for the guys we go after. He'll be rated at some point, but there's no promise it will be an in-depth look.3 points

To memory, at the UNT sponsored tailgate, beer was $7 and bloody marys were $9. I don't want to put words in @Ryan Munthe's mouth (I really don't want to put anything in his mouth, truth be told), but I'd think that if they were going to charge money at the EastOakStArnold tailgate, they'd need a special TABC permit to do so, and I bet they don't have a special TABC permit.3 points

While I agree with much of your analysis, I think it is time to jettison the past as an excuse. A lot of NT's CUSA competition didn't even have high level college football when most of that history you mentioned occurred. Frankly, most high school recruits know little about NT other than they are a low level FB division program;. At this point, NT doesn't have to compete above the CUSA level and I can't think of any school in the Western Division that should have an overall recruiting advantage. IMO, there is no reason other than the salesmanship of the recruiting staff that NT doesn't do well in recruiting versus CUSA. Not saying that the current staff won't do well, but it is time for improvement not excuses.3 points

I fully understand that higher rated classes will produce better results, but I think I also understand our situation. Here's my take. In all honestly, since Odus Mitchell retired our HC position has been a carousel. Fry looked like a keeper, and probably would have stayed but we weren't invited to the SWC, so off he went. After that it was a drop down to 1AA, bad hires, hires that came at the wrong time (Nelson), more bad hires, a disgruntled coach that didn't get along with the AD, a couple of bad HS hires, etc... My comment on Corky Nelson being hired at the wrong time is just an opinion, but I would love to see what he could have done with a supportive administration and the facilities we have today. Long story short, this has just been an unstable department for years getting by with the bare minimum. IF...IF, Littrell will stay for a couple of years, have some continued success, I think this will take off, but people have to see sustained success. We, the alumni, must support the program, the students have to continue to come, the administration has to continue to step up, etc... and eventually people's impressions of us will change. Until then, our staff must convince a few highly rated recruits to take a chance and come to UNT, find the diamonds in the rough, utilize the JUCO system and build the program along the lines of how Snyder did it at KSU. Again, just my opinion, but we are one year removed from a 1-11 season, improved to 5-7 this year, and we must continue to improve and sustain that improvement over time.3 points

This guy was kicked out of FSU for breaking the law. Do you have any idea how difficult/rare that is? They find any excuse to keep a stud football player in school there.3 points

OK...so the Prez shows he's on board with athletics in a very public manner and he gets hammered for his efforts. I'm sure the legions of advertising art majors on this board could have done better. If you think you can do better, contact the Prez...he's open to ideas.2 points

I hear Arkansas fans calling pigs. Washington fans barking. I hear everybody complaining about us having no traditions. But I guess anything new has to be cool and not embarrassing. Meanwhile just about every great tradition is uncool and super embarrassing. So make up y'alls mind. Devalue the brand? Not sure in the sports world our brand has any value. Like I said, try everything, see what sticks.2 points

Ok from a quick search (and by that I mean I don't know of any rules or restrictions yadda yadda): $6 for A-Train (local day pass) https://www.dcta.net/fare-information And $5 for DART (local day pass) https://www.dart.org/fares/fares.asp Also looks like we can take the green line from the Trinity station all the way to Fair Park, @Withers9402 points

Correct! Who was the QB when we beat Army at Army earlier this season? I personally do not care who starts between Fine and Morris. I just want the coaches to start the guy they...THEY...think gives UNT the best chance of winning. Perhaps both will play...perhaps not, but I leave that to the coaching staff and medical personnel. Just set UNT up with the best possible chance of securing a win.2 points
