I think you take it to get the extra practices for a young team. Don't let some sort of college football purist attitude get in the way of a practical decision.

God forbid UNT ever catch a break. All you ever hear on this forum is how UNT continually gets "jobbed". The one time they don't get jobbed and actually qualify based on the rules, and folks want to bitch about it. Ridiculous .

If we turn down an invite, go 5-7 - People will be disinterested in UNT. If we take the invite, go 5-8 - people will be disinterested in UNT. BUT...we get extra practice time. If we take it and go 6-7 - People might notice us a little bit more. In no scenario is taking it NOT a win for our boys. It's about them, not our perception. Give those kids a chance to do something for themselves so we can all benefit from the future fruits.

We weren't supposed to get to 5 this year. By no means do I think we're a bowl quality team without winning this one but I'll celebrate any accomplishment, APR or otherwise, that gets this rag tag empty cupboard squad to a bowl then I'd celebrate it. Its still overachieving.

A 15-yard chain would hurt ground game / smashmouth offenses far more than spreads. Army/Navy would really have a harder time sustaining drives. I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA adopted the NFL's new rules for the try. We would see some college teams go for 2 most of the time. I would like to see flag-begging become unsportsmanlike.

If this team loses to UTEP they should turn down any bowl invite. This is not a post-season caliber defense (or offense for that matter).

To heck with that noise. Take the bowl game, celebrate the bowl game, use it as a recruiting tool. This is a team that most expected to win 1 or 2 games. 5 or 6 is a huge change, and sets the stage for domination in 2017.

Exactly. First year coach takes a 1-11 team to a bowl because academics got us over the other cusp teams? Take it. I was mentally deabting this before Emmitt posted it...but a bowl is still a bowl. Even if we get crushed...knowing it's a stepping stone season and our academics got us in and there's growth coming is still more impressive than not being in a bowl at all.

If they hire Littrell I say we hire Strong and get him to agree to $1 a season to stick it to the shorthorns ? They still owe him $10.8m only reduced by what he makes at his next job.

I really hope some of you don't have daughters.

We beat the team USM put on the field. That's the best we could do. I'm not sure why a fan would denigrate their own team's success.

Athletic dept. has earned the back door invite, due to academics...don't take that away from them.

I get why you would want to turn it down based on principle but you ABSOLUTELY take the bid for the practice time and exposure.

I'll say it yet again. There have been some dumb posts on here in the past. VERY DUMB. But this one takes the cake. You don't look the other way to protect rapists. I would turn a family member in for rape without a 2nd thought. If this was a joke it was a shitty one. If it was serious then I wish you would start supporting another team.

Again, any thing to get extra practice reps, extra exposure to solid coaching for our young kids, and in the END a great experience for our Seniors who stuck it out and bought in. I'll take any bowl opponent we can beat. The win is whats important not the who.

People who know college football -, really know college football (and that's not me and probably not you) - base evaluations on more that just records and statistics. I suspect there are folks in Texas college football who understand and appreciate the job Seth Littrell has done this year. Their biggest problem in making this decision might be in explaining it to the geniuses on their fan boards.

Damn right. I'll be watching it, in chat complaining, and grateful for yet another reason to get wasted and watch my team. Sure, they may be awful sometimes (most of the time). but they are MY awful team.

They must have had some defensive players come back from injury as well. Mullens did not cause a high powered offense like La Tech to score only 24 points.

I am hearing that their AD may prefer Doug Meacham over Herman.
