  2. To all of the Mean Green nation who served in the armed services, thank you for your service and sacrifice. My brother served in the Navy during the Viet Nam war. He did a tour of duty in Viet Nam and was stationed at Da Nang AFB. He was a " CT" and a crew member of an AWACS. He also served on a destroyer in the Gulf of Tonkin and on a spy ship (USS Georgetown....an exact twin of the infamous USS Pueblo) in the Mediterranean. My father, was a B-17 crew chief and waist gunner attached to the 8th air force just before VE day and was discharged before being sent to England. My grandfather, Ira F. Lane served in France during WW I....(where veterans day originated). He served in the 180th infantry brigade. Here is his picture and a history of his North Texas unit. 90th Infantry Division in World War I The following is the first in a series of posts about the history of the 90th Infantry Division and its legacy units. The 90th Infantry Division began it's nearly 100-year history on August 25, 1917 when it was officially organized at Camp Travis, Texas. Camp Travis was a training cantonment in San Antonio, Texas, adjacent to Fort Sam Houston. The first troops of the 90th were Texas and Oklahoma natives called to training following the first draft call for World War I. The Division Command tried as best as possible to follow geographical lines in assigning Soldiers to the regiments and brigades. The 179th Brigade was designated the Oklahoma brigade, with the 357th Infantry regiment filled with Soldiers from western Oklahoma and the 358th Infantry Regiment with eastern Oklahomans. The 180th Infantry Brigade became the Texas brigade with northern and western Texans assigned to the 359th Regiment and Southern and Eastern Texans the 360th. Soldiers with previous relevant experience filled specialized units such as field artillery, engineers and field signal battalions. A 90th Division patch as shown on a WWI uniform. The Division's patch features a "T" and an "O", reflecting the origins of it's first Soldiers: Texas and Oklahoma. Due to the courage displayed during many battles, along with the origin of its Soldiers, the TO came to be known as Tough 'Ombres, a nickname that continues to be attached to the unit. While at Camp Travis the Soldiers participated in a myriad of training designed to prepare them for what they would find in France. This included intensive trench warfare training among a system of trenches built by engineers just east of Salado Creek, weapons familiarization, gas defense, sanitation and a study of the French language.

  6. This may be acceptable if we were playing Alabama, but not WKU. We should NEVER be losing to a conference team 31-0...AT THE HALF!

  12. No team currently in C-USA should be able to hold us to zero yards in the 1st quarter of a game. That's not asking too much of our coaching staff and team. I didn't expect us to win. I even conceded we could get beaten badly. But zero yards in the 1st quarter? That is completely unacceptable.

  13. Not to be too downer, but I think we are much further out than just a year.

  14. Glad to know that. Maybe someone mentioned that when in uniform and on that field they ARE NOT representing themselves.

  16. The football game is about the football team, not the Green Brigade, although some would have you believe otherwise.

  17. Sadly, in this day and age this could happen anywhere. However, if this were UNT, I'd want anyone involved, including the AD, to be immediately fired and loudly publicly shamed. I hope SMU cleans house over this. I absolutely couldn't agree more that we should invite her out to the game next weekend to be an honorary captain and let her do the coin toss too. Hell, give her a scholarship in the name of fallen public servants while we are at it.

  23. - sorry , we won't win today.. No real way to sugar coat it. I'll glady eat crow & wear the dunce hat if we do - I like our chances next week vs Southern Miss. They are dealing with injuries to their top 2 QB's and have been struggling of late. If we can pack apogee I see no reason why we don't take care of business and get to 5 wins - although our chances may be good on making it to a bowl at 5-7 (APR) , I'd personally like to hit that 6 win mark & not have to worry about it -Miners are 3-6 with their bowl hopes on the line today. They have a favorable matchup next week vs RIce. The last thing you want to do is play the final game of the season on the road vs a team siting on 5 wins. I'd like our chances a hell of a lot more if we face a 4 win Miner team vs a 5 win one #GoOwls

  26. I agree. We need to beat other programs for quality recruits, not settle for players that no one else offered scholarships. That's what Mac did and look where it got us. We're currently getting stomped by a former Belt mate that's only been playing on the FBS level for about a decade. We had four trips to the New Orleans Bowl under our belt before WKU ever played a down of FBS football. It's very sad to see them competing for their second conference title and us stinking up the joint. If Littrell doesn't improve our recruiting, we will not improve on the field next season. And to be totally honest, I'm not impressed with our recruiting so far this season.

  27. WKU is good. I'm not quitting on this team, I just wonder if we've seen every thing we're going to get this season. Support the team the rest of the season, and keep a magnifying glass on recruiting within our program and conference.

  31. I don't know,.....our v ball team had some players take a knee during the national anthem earlier in the season. Not sure I would want this girl and her family exposed to any more disrespect than they've already been shown? Rick

  32. UNT shot just 61.5 percent (24 of 39) from the free throw line. Johnson (16-16) and Temara (2-2) were the only players to shoot above 50% from the stripe. So, the rest of the team was 6 of 21 from the foul line? Really, 6 of 21?

  36. I believe this is the right staff to lead us to great things. I know we have experienced much losing in our recent past. I am tired of it as much as anyone, but to expect a coach to turn things around in year one down fifteen scholarships is not possible. I know in this day in age people want things right now, but I do believe if we can be patient great things are coming. Patience will be necessary. Keep your heads and spirits up Green Guys. Great things are happening within the athletic dept and university. If we can hold out a little longer we will realize what we desire. Success on the gridiron will be ours. I have already seen gains from last year. Keep your eye on the prize.
