  1. For a third straight year the Mean Green soccer team has won the CUSA regular season title. Is this the part where I assume some big school is gonna come in and steal Hedlund? Or is the part where I kick and scream because KTXA hasn't carried all of their games free of charge?

  2. So who all do we have going for us now? The Von Ericks, Stone Cold, and now The Iron Sheik?

  5. He was here prior to the formation of the 1995 Woman's program. The real question is, why would he leave? He's built a very solid program from the ground up and has job security. That isn't something hat comes around often these days.

  12. In this week's GMG Podcast, @Harry and the crew wanted to know what the Org Chart of UNT looked like and who reports where, who is on a level stature-wise, etc. So here you go: I specifically included in here all of the entities relating to UNT Athletics in bold, and then attempted a crack at the AD's org chart. It's inherently murky regarding where any of the old regime stand, but this is accurate as far as I can tell from the Mean Green Sports website. Does this clear things up? EDIT: I totally whiffed on including the Colleges of Education and Engineering as well as the Honors College. Sorry, ya'll. FIXED!

  16. We're about to head to the Alumni Tailgate at the Dahlia Room, then over to the Alamodome. If you haven't met me in person, I'm easy to spot. My hair is a sort of teal mohawk and my girlfriend's hair is a little greener. We're sitting in section 141 at the game.

  19. That would be much more likely. CFO's are rarely in charge of revenue production. They tend to make sure revenues are utilized properly and accounted for appropriately...not in bringing in the revenue. However, folks can set up their org charts any way they wish. Just would seem odd to have a CFO out hustling revenue.

  21. UTSA royally f'ed our shot at a Conference Title in our first ever bout with them. And ever since we absolutely despise losing to them. If those aren't the near-perfect terms to years later realize the inception of a rivalry, I don't know what else we would have going for us.

  25. The Army game was shown on the Armed Forces Network (AFN). It was televised around the world (every base, ships at sea, maybe even Antarctica) as it happened! Imagine a national versus a regional audience. The Mean Green acquitted themselves well and Army was a classy and worthy opponent.

  31. Per Conference USA rules, for conference games, visiting teams are required to complete travel the day before a game is being played unless they receive approval from C-USA prior to the day before the game is played.

  39. Ryan Peck told me in person at the Army game that the Mean Green Club would be part of his supervisory unit. Maybe he mis-spoke? But, he did say that "Revenue" was his major responsibility.

  41. The catch to obtaining what we refer to as a medical redshirt is that you have to miss two seasons because of injury (or at least within the first 30% of the games that team plays that season). If an injury incapacitates you, it doesn't matter that it was the season before. But again, the catch is that there has to be two seasons where the player misses at least 70% of the games in order to obtain that 6th season. If a player has already taken a "healthy" redshirt then he can't take an additional medical redshirt just for missing one. And Isadore already took a "healthy" redshirt to my knowledge back in 2014 at Angelo State.

  42. Six C.U.S.A. head coaches are making between $750,000 and $900,000 in salary, with five of these over $800,000. The other seven are paid between $500,000 and $600,000.Best bangs for your buck: Skip Holtz at La.Tech. and Jay Hopson at So. Miss. both make $500,000 per year in salary. The"'are you kidding me" is David Bailiff at Rice, paid $900,000 annually.Proving that nothing is as it seems in Louisiana, Mark Hudspeth at U.L.L. is valued at $1,100,000 per year. Say what?

  45. I personally like traditional school colors. I like that Alabama, Texas, OU and Ohio state all have set uniforms that haven't changed in years if not decades. But 17-18-year-olds like the variety of Oregon, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and others. I've noticed many of the schools send tweets of their planned uniforms before the games and you should check out the number of hearts and retweets those generate. More and more schools are adopting the variable uniform look because their recruits WANT that. It's been posted multiple times "How many uniform variations do you have?" is one of the most common question by recruits. This actually isn't new. Back in the late 70s/early 80s SMU had the triple stripe on the legs of their uniforms. Coaches at other SWC schools commented on how silly and stupid it looks while PLAYERS from those schools all commented on how much they liked it. I think NT is uniquely suited to have a multiple uniform set. Since Hayden Fry arrived it seems every new AD (and several of the football coaches) have come in and changed the shade of green we use. When I look at the Mean Green shirts in my closet, it looks like one of those paint swatches from Sherwin-Williams. Why not make a virtue out of our vice and just embrace multiple looks? Our stands are going to be filled with lots of variations no matter what the "official" colors are. Let's go with what the recruits and students want.
