  1. Don't we have a heavy arts component at UNT? We should get someone over in the arts section of the schools to make busts of the NTSU legends to display at Apogee. That's my suggestion of the day. Tune in tomorrow.

  2. Wanted to add this to the list of tweets. Wished things would have ended up different for Riley and Todd here at North Texas, but happy to see him say "GMG" and support his alma mater. I look forward to watching Riley's career. He's a true competitor. @coachcanales QBs Work! One of the best QB and offensive minds in the country! #neversatisfied #GMG — Riley Dodge (@coachrdodge) August 23, 2013

  3. Gotta say, I sort of agree with Plumm to some extent. I don't give Dodge the credit directly, but the hope Dodge brought rejuvenated the excitement toward UNT football as seen by the jump in ticket sales and donors. I think this helped with the student vote. Does the vote pass if Dodge wasn't hired and downward trending Dickey stayed (giving us no real feeling of change)? We'll never know.

  4. LOL @ a FrogTard pretending everything at TCU isn't heavily subsidized by students via extremely overpriced tuition.

  6. If history is not being revised then might the one who says it is be the one who is actually doing the revising? First of all, I don't think Todd Dodge's record at UNT has been the subject matter of any of this thread for those who want to bring that up. I think we all remember quite well what it was. Still....there was this: UNT coach Todd Dodge reiterated Monday his hope and desire to be in a new stadium no later than 2010. "I’ve been told we’d open (a new stadium) in 2010," Dodge said. "That’s when I’m holding them to it. For this program to go where it needs to go, we’ve got to get a new stadium." (a Fort Worth Star Telegram quote from new UNT head football coach Todd Dodge's press conference) http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/story/774327.html GMG!

  7. Saying that the stadium barely passed shows that you don't know what "truth" is.

  8. HELL NO IT'S NOT TODD FREAKING DODGE'S LEGACY!!! Are you nuts? It's the student's legacy, and in particular the student leaders that found a way to overcome a terrible anti-athletic culture at UNT and get the student vote passed. Without that vote, we don't have Apogee. The only student leader that I know is UNTFlyer, so I give him all the credit in the world. I give Todd Freaking Dodge ZERO!! Do you conveniently forget the 1st student vote in the early 2000s? Do you not understand that RV (and every other person that has ever looked at Fouts Field from the outside, much less sat inside the stadium) realized that we badly needed a replacement? Do you conveniently forget that RV was trying and failing to get a new stadium with that student vote? Do you honestly believe the high school coach had to point out to a guy who had been in the ADs at Southern Miss and TCU that we needed a new stadium? I mean, really?

  9. None of those are arguments for why Manziel is innocent. Those are excuses for why he shouldn't be punished for breaking the rules. How about this, I will buy you a Manziel Aggie jersey for you to wear since you have so much respect for the guy and we can call it a truce.

  11. 10 Predictions for 2013 We see more than one QB play on August 31st. When you look at the 3 guys behind Derrick they all are running threats. So I can see one of those guys getting one series where we see a little read option action. Derek Thompson throws for 2800 yards 20 TD’s 12 INT’s and rushes for another 3 TD’s. I think the added talent around him will make him a better player. The secondary will be the most improved unit. This year’s secondary will benefit from having to face the fire last year. To go along with the experience UNT also added talent with the likes of Chad Davis, James Jones and Zed Evans. All of those guys look like early contributors. The Wild Eagle will be run by Brock Berglund. Why not? He may be the most athletic guy out there. So he has trouble reading the defense, but you can still find other ways for him to help the team. Put him situations that he can excel like running the ball. UNT will have the best points per game defense in CUSA. I don’t think it’s too outlandish of a thought. I’m going to say that UNT will give up 24 points per game. That will be down from 27 last year. I think one that the defense will be improved and two the offense’s slow pace will help contribute to low scores. The Special Teams will cost UNT a game again. How many times do we see this? Even we appear to have a good special team it always seems to happen. We all remember the Troy debacle. By the end of 3 quarter of the second game Jimmerson will be the featured back. I like Brandin Byrd, but Jimmerson is the best offensive talent on the team. Chancellor is a close second, but Jimmerson to me has the ability to be a first team All Conference Back. He is such a smooth runner and his vision is really tremendous. UNT will turn out being one stop away from being 3-0 to start the season. I think UNT will be Idaho and squeak out a win vs Ball St. However, I think they will lose in a shootout to Ohio. I think UNT will lose because it just could quite slow down the Bobcats rushing attack. There will be no early talk of basketball season this year. One because of the blindside shot we all took last year. Two because the football team will have a chance at being bowl eligible and will be playing rather well. UNT will be 5-5 heading into the UTSA game with a shot at becoming bowl eligible. It will be just what the Dr. ordered a chance to shut those mouth-running cocky fans from down south up! The weather will be perfect, with a slight chill in the air. The stadium will be rocking like it was for Houston in 11’. UNT will unleash some frustrations out. The game will be such a beautiful sight that afterwards we here of UNT offering UTSA money because the game turned into a body bag game.

  18. If they dont beat Tulane, they wont win a road game. Off of the Georgia beat down and 2 Weeks to prepare. No excuses. Unless Tulane shows they are a whole lot better than last year...How can a 2 win team all of a sudden get credit for improving the following year, but unt cant? so UNT is going to play the same way while everybody else improves? Even winless and 2 win teams? Some people act like UNT was lucky to even win 4 games last year.

  20. I am fine with and like the support of an innocent player. But are people really trying to defend getting paid for autographs while in school? You must be kidding, that is the same as paying them out right uncapped. What is the setup if you come to school here you will get $50,000 - $1,000,000 for your autographs each year of your eligibility. Yeah that would work well.

  21. Sheesh . . . saying that the students and SA are responsible for passing the student athletics fee that funded the construction of Apogee is stating the obvious. It's a much-appreciated fact, but an obvious fact. And it is also a fact that Todd Dodge's public comments played a part in getting the ball rolling. It might be small in the grand scheme of things, but it played a part. Why does that offend you so much?

  23. Good looking site. I only have one question. The pictures of the the ladies team members standing next to coach Peterson always stay the same...why do the pictures of the men's team members next to Benford keep getting subbed in and out?

  24. Heck, I cannot pick up a good clear clean signal from 95.3 FM on a good clear day here in Grand Prairie. The NT Radio Network is all we have so we will continue to listen. The phrase "North Texas Radio Network" sounds so funny with only two stations, with one being KNTU on the campus of North Texas. I just hope that one day, North Texas has game day radio coverage all across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. How about one single station that can broadcast all over the USA? Maybe the C-USA Radio Network will offer more radio stations for NT fans across America.

  28. Good interview from what I got to listen to as I'm on duty and we caught two runs during it. He promoted his website and discussed how the Olympians have to raise most of their own money. Said if you go to his site and donate he will send an autographed photo in return. We need to do what we can to help him out. JQ is a great rep for the Mean Green and gave us some of the greatest memories in recent years. Surely we can give a little back in return? Rick

  29. Your post makes no sense at all. This already "passed" the BOR and there is no "anti-athletics culture" at UNT.

  31. I'm not sure what you mentioned is true. I can only go on what I've seen and read, which of course is not all of the facts. But we are routinely cited sources that show we are near the bottom in budget, and behind most schools in Texas and even some in the Sun Belt in recruiting budgets. My point would be, it would be nice to see some reports that come out that show we are at the top of CUSA in budget. if that is true now, then great. But again, I'd prefer that that be true without a new sport, whatever it is. Also, you must have missed the Kickoff Cookout. That was a severely underfunded event. Just kidding (sort of).

  32. The annual report to the U S Department of Education for the period ended June 30, 2013 isn't out yet but here are the revenue figures for 2012 of those teams who will play this coming year. East Carolina 34.1 million Tulsa 31.1 Rice 30.3 Tulane 27.9 FIU 27.4 UAB 27.3 Marshall 26.4 UTEP 24.0 Middle Tenn 23.2 FAU 21.7 North Texas 20.4 UTSA 20.2 Southern Miss 19.8 La Tech 17.8 Next year's leader will likely be Old Dominion. Their budget as a 1-AA team this same year was 35.2 million. Charlotte was last at 14.3 but this was before their acceptance into CUSA.

  33. If this proposed budget puts us at the top of CUSA, and most other CUSA schools have baseball, how are we not properly funded? What, in your estimation, is currently underfunded?
    2 points
  34. That makes sense and is a good increase in his tenure, but does the budget include the additional income from the $10 dollar per semester hour athletic fee or not? That obviously was in motion before Rawlins time. If the increase does include proceeds from the athletic fee, then depending on how much of that fee (and how much of the subsequent admission into CUSA via TV contract contributes to the athletic budget) figures in will tell us how much the budget was truly increased by the university and how much was increased by the students themselves. I am only asking. I don't know. This seems like a job for Tasty. And I expect the answer in a limerick. That is your challenge.

  36. Yes Manziel has his own run ins with the inside of a jail cell, so they might want to go a little easy on the brokers are bad guys argument. They certainly are, but Manziel has demonstrated beyond a doubt that he is no angel either. You have multiple brokers claiming they paid him money, probably hurts their business because other players are going to run from them at this point. Hard to see their clear motivation for a bogus claim. Can NCAA prove it? They probably don't have the power needed. Does that mean it didnt happen - only if you are a fool.
    2 points
  37. I guess you think that a guy is going to sign hundreds of items for multiple memorabilia brokers out of the goodness of his heart. Dez Bryant was suspended an entire season for lying about earing a meal with Deion Sanders, which wasn't even a violation. While I do not agree with the NCAA's rules, he should be suspended at least one season.
