Here's ULM's schedule their first year back in 1-A Independant status in 1994.

1994 Louisiana-Monroe (Independent)
9/3 @ Colorado (11-1) L 13 48
9/10 @ Auburn (9-1-1) L 12 44
9/17 @ Georgia (6-4-1) L 6 70
9/24 @ Nevada (9-2) L 22 34
10/1 vsWeber State (non-IA) W 62 37
10/8 @ Wyoming (6-6) L 14 28
10/15 vs.C. Florida (non-IA) L 16 33
10/22 vs.JacksonvilleSt(non-IA)L 28 32
11/5 @Brigham Young (10-3) L 10 24
11/12 @ Kentucky (1-10) W 21 14
11/19 vs.North Texas (non-IA) W 38 20

I don't think UTSA will have a problem at all filling a schedule as a 1-A independant. The AQ schools will stumbled all over themselves to bring in some fresh kill.

I noticed in the Star Telegram, that UTSA convinced a ST top 100 RB (Chris Johnson, from SA East Central) that they have a pretty good plan.

Strange, but I couldn't find any top 100 players that NT had convinced to make a committment to our program.

This morning's paper showed Dibol's Antonio Johnson, TE, listed as committed to North Texas.

Well that's relief. I can sleep better now knowing that we're even with UTSA on top 100 signees. Next think you know we might actually get some d-linemen........large, fast, and mean d-linemen.

They can talk about going I-A all they want.... until the NCAA lifts the moratorium, they're not budging. *IF* the NCAA unfreezes divisional moves, you can bet they will keep a tight leash and raise the requirements to make the move up. There are many FCS schools that want to move up, not just UTSA and TSU.

According to UTSA's Message board, UTSA will open 2013 at home in the Alamodome against Kansas St. on ESPN and will also play Oklahoma St. and Houston. They don't seem to have a hard time finding teams to play that in San Antonio.

More from another post...

UPDATE: 2013 Football Opener to be vs K-State (added 2/5)

UTSAtailgaters has confirmed, in a slight change, that our 2013 Home Opener will be against the Kansas State Wildcats of the Big XII North! Oklahoma State will still be a part of the schedule as well.

This means that four Big XII schools, Baylor, Texas Tech, OSU & Kansas State, have either signed contracts or are very close to doing so, in order to be a part of the UTSA 2013 & 2014 schedule. In addition to C-USA schools such as UH and SMU, also, Navy, Army and Air Force.

To clarify for anyone who was wondering, UTSAtailgaters has also confirmed THAT WE WILL NOT BE PLAYING TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY-SAN MARCOS in the programs first two seasons of football competition. Schools that have been confirmed for the 2011 and 2012 seasons are Lamar, Cal-Poly, South Alabama, Georgia State and others.

Stay tuned for any other updates regarding UTSA future scheduling.

Is there anything from the university or just rumors from a message board?

I haven't seen anything official yet. Only from their fansites. Granted it is frenzying up the Bobcat fans. Regardless if it is true or not, this is exactly what our fans wanted to see happen.

HA, ok. Let's see if this really happens. K-State tried to get out of our contract because they didn't want to play out of conference on the road. If they play FCS UTSA on the road, even if it is in the Alamo Dome, I'll eat my hat.

In theory, 2013 would be their first year as an transitioning-FBS team. They will play their first two years as an FCS indy in 2011, 2012 and if they wanted to make the jump they would need 5 FBS games at home.

They need 10 FBS games at home, 5 in year one and 5 in year 2 of transition. No way that Big 12 teams honor those contracts. They will let the roadrunner "run" on into town and then conveniently decide to not return the trip. They might get one or two of them to honor the deals but it is going to really tough to meet the 5 home game requirement (for 2 consecutive years) withot a conference. If just one school backs out, the timeline starts over - the 10 home games against FBS have to be in consecutive years.

They would also need NCAA approval since there is no FBS admissions at this time. Also, I really doubt the NCAA would allow them to make this move if they had no FBS conference affiliation. The one door they don't want to open is a bunch of FCS schools moving to FBS as Independents and unprepared financially.

I agree. I get that you want to create the buzz among fans in order to make your case for moving up, but the UTSA fans are acting like this is a done deal. Transition to FBS, joining C-USA.... They have never played football and somehow they are going to go to the head of line for admission to FBS?
