Cheer Sheet For Fau Game

I have unofficially become the Cheer Sheet creator for the Pit Crew. Here is the material we will be passing out to the student section:

· FAU opened in 1964 as a two-year university upperclassmen school so that community college graduates could earn their bachelor's. They did not begin to accept undergraduates until 1984.

· FAU is spread out across 7 campuses, and over a distance of 60 miles with a total of 26,000 students. They are the epitome of a commuter school, with less than 9% of students living on campus.

· FAU's main campus shares a property line with the Boca Raton Airport. The campus used to be a U.S. Army base until the 1960s.

· The Owls mascot is named after the burrowing owls that live on campus, a lazy and timid species that makes its home in abandoned prairie dog burrows, culvert pipes, or any other hole in the ground. In short, the "burrowing birds" are squatters.

· FAU basketball is 4-14, 0-6 in the conference (dead last).

· Notable alumni include Mary Carey (porn actress who ran for governor of California) and the comedian Scott Thompson (a.k.a. "Carrot Top").

· FAU basketball is ranked #274 in the country, and dropping fast.

· FAU ranks nationally: Points (242nd), Assists (256th), Rebounds (242nd)

· FAU is 0-11 on the road this season.

· Paul Graham (#25) is the Owls' leading scorer. He applied for the NBA draft after his junior year, but withdrew his application when no teams showed interest in him.

· Alex Tucker (#5) has the most turnovers on the team

· Brett Royster (#40) is from Arlington, TX. Be sure to tell his family how much we love him!

· Carlos Monroe (#32) is FAU's best player, but is out for 3 weeks due to plantar fasciitis. He has also been struggling to stay academically eligible.

· Xavier Perkins (#24) is out for the season due to academic ineligibility. He was averaging 12.4 points per game.

· This is coach Mike Jarvis' first year as FAU head coach. He coached at St John's, but hasn't coached in 5 seasons. His previous job before coming to FAU was a college basketball commentator on ESPN and analyst for Yahoo! Sports.

· Jarvis' 2003-2004 St John's team was slapped with sanctions due to a player being paid $400 a month. They were forced to forfeit a total of 43 games, including their 2002 and 2003 tournament games.

· The previous coach, Rex Walters, snuck out of town in the middle of the night to take the head coach job at San Francisco University.

The last 3 games I've started banging on a wooden door down in the Pit Crew area for most of the game. It seems to work really well..... My friggin hand hurts for days afterward..... I wonder if they would let me bring a big blunt mallet hammer into the Pit? It would save my hand bones and probably make some really banging sounds.
