What a strange past two weeks.
Hard to concentrate on UNT football with the chaos going on in conferences and in “what we thought were bastions of all that is good about college athletics”.
Nebuchadnezzar had his dream of a statue with feet of clay. Tragically, and the older I get, it seems that more and more idols have that weakness.

I’m at a bit of a loss to analyze the Troy/MG matchup this week. On the one hand there may be some rusty play from Mac’s troops, but I have a feeling this team is finally starting to find an identity on defense, and if the offense can continue to take care of the ball—don’t look now, but UNT leads the SBC in turnover margin and is 13th in the nation—I believe they can get out of Troy with the win.
Troy is not a good football team defensively. They don’t sack anyone, and they have difficulty with a good offensive line. They can also definitely be run on. This bodes well for the QB position this week, and my hunch is that Thompson takes advantage of the time to throw, because Troy’s pass defense is almost as bad as UNT’s.
Having said that, I think that home field advantage and Troy's decent passing game may be big factors in this game because Troy has one of the best passing offenses in the league, and this should enable them to hang with UNT.
Keys for a UNT victory: 1. Force turnovers and capitalize on them with touchdowns. 2. Control the clock with the run. 3. Pass game has to work.
These two teams are evenly matched offensively, but UNT holds the edge defensively and I believe they will be more physical than Troy. A couple of forced fumbles and a cash-in or two may be the difference.
I think Troy will win this game if they can force Thompson into mistakes and stop the run, but I think UNT has enough to win this one by 9 or so if they play their A game this week, because the Troy defense is horrible.
If UNT can get the run game going, they can control the clock and limit Troy’s offensive possessions.
Home field is big this week, but I think the Mean Green take this one by a touchdown.
