MGB: Paris Linebacker Sed Ellis commits to UNT

UNT picked up a commitment from Paris linebacker Sed Ellis yesterday. I talked with Ellis and his high school coach Berry Bowman for a few minutes this afternoon.

Ellis is one of those all-around good high school athletes. He normally plays defensive end for Paris, but moved to outside linebacker for the last half of last season.

The move turned out to be one that helped Ellis’ stock. He played well enough at the spot for five or six games to be named to the All-District 15-3A team as a linebacker.

Linebacker running 21.7 in the 200! Reminds me of the Pertile brothers.

6'3 200 with great speed, as long as he has the frame to put on weight I love it. Speed Kills

Could turn into a speed rushing DE or stay at linebacker.

Very nice measurables.

Or could he be moved to safety? Either way, glad to have him as our first verbal for the 2013 class.

Very TCU-esqe recruit.

Hopefully he is solid in his commitment.

My thoughts exactly. Love his size, speed and potential versatility.

He will likely be a two-star, maybe a three-star recruit but has all of the essentials to be coached into a four-star athlete. The choice is a little scary in that he's not an improvement over Sun Belt quality but I trust this staff to get the athletes that they feel will excel in our new environment.

Yes, please explain. This is a big and fast linebacker. His size (6'3'' 200 lbs) could easily (probably) be 6'4'' 230 lbs by the time he hits the field for us. That is an NFL sized linebacker bro.

I think Gray, like me, is hoping for some bonnafide 3 star action in the recruiting season. Ya, I know, stars don't necessarily mean production on the field, but I would be willing to bet 3 star athletes are far more successful as a whole than 2 stars. Same when comparing 4 to 3 stars, etc...

Yes, the 2 star diamonds in the rough are out there, but they aren't common.

Personally, I am looking forward to the first football Tony Mitchell. It's gotta happen... Right... ???

Yes, it's gonna happen. As far as the star stuff goes - if this guy can play he will be a 3 star because of the size and speed.

We have 10 LB's on the roster and here's the breakdown:

Six are listed at 6'0''
One listed at 6'1''
Four listed at 6'2''
One listed at 6'3''

This kid has not even started his senior season so I'm guessing he's 17 or 18 years old. This kid has at least another 5 years of growth in the height department. He will get bigger.
