Brent Osborn News from Vito

Harry

There were a couple of good news tidbits to come out of today's Dan McCarney press conference. Here goes:
– The big news that came out of left field is that backup quarterback Brent Osborn is going to graduate this year and will not be back next season. Osborn never played much at UNT, but he is the Mean Green's No. 2 guy with Andrew McNulty spending the year as a redshirt. To me this is just another sign that Brock Berglund is going to make a run at the starting job next year.

In 2013 I think we are looking at DT and Berglund competing for the starting spot which is a good thing for all involved. Minimac will be back after using his redshirt year and you should have D Williams available in the case of an emergency.
A lot of us, myself included, complain about DT's football playing ability but in all honesty this season has had to have been extremely tough on Osborn. Seeing the guy in front of you struggle and show no signs of improvement for 2 years while never being given the chance to show what you can do is extremely tough. I think he'll find a place next year and hopefully he'll get a shot.
Since he graduated, he can go to an FBS program and play right away, as long as he enrolls in a graduate program not offered at UNT. I assume that's what the Fake was referring to. Either way, I also wish Brent all the best.
He also played in the MUTS game on the kickoff team.
I think we get 1 more along with Williams, who was recruited as a QB. LSR, the Rivals Texas site, has him as one of the Top QB's in the state.

Well, I guess if you believe one site inside of Rivals. If you believe rivals as a whole,. not so much.

One offer from Montana and doesn't even show committed to UNT. No stars.
ESPN does show him committed, but with no other offer but Montana, 69 grade, 2 stars:

24/7 shows us as the only offer, a grade of 75, 2 star:

Let me preface this by saying I fully hope that Dajon Williams is the QB that will lead us to the promised land. Lord knows we have been waiting long enough. But, what good smaller programs do (the Boise Sts. and TCU's, well, once upon a time for them) is get the best athletes available and find a way to get them on the field. Many QBs turn into safeties, Linebackers, wide receivers, etc... There is nothing wrong with this practice, and I could see this kid headed that way.
You only have to look to Cooper Jones on this very team to see that very idea in practice. Cooper Jones was even rated higher than Williams (a 3 star, as I recall). The college game is VERY different than high school.
Nothing about Williams actual numbers in high school scream college QB. For those who think he will contribute immediately, perhaps you should look at the 177lbs he is carrying on a 6'3" frame. This kid is headed for a redshirt, a big calorie meal plan, and a lot of time in the weight room.
What if he comes out at 235lbs?
Lots of options for where this kid plays. I'll be surprised if it ends up being QB.
